As flash-based solid-storage continues to gain in popularity, Sony has now unveiled its first flash-based Vaio known as the TZ18GN. The notebook, which features a 32GB flash hard drive, boasts faster boot times, reduced weight, increase battery life and better durability due to less moving parts when compared to models using standard drives (although the weight as battery life are quite negligible). The TZ18GN comes with a 11.1" 1366 x 768 display, a built in DVD burner, a 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo processor, an Intel GMA 950 graphics card, 1GB of memory (expandable to 2GB) and Windows Vista Business, as well as all the other Sony perks like a Motion Eyeweb-cam. However, with a price tag of roughly $2,500 US, there is better performance to be found for less cash - unless you have your heart set on a flash-based laptop.
