Edge browser needs to stay away from Chromium, so many sites are still broken on Chrome...

Anyone care to try this? I tried signing up for Playstation NOW on PC through Chrome, it won't let me sign in, I go to Edge and it works perfect... also several websites my Dad uses to pay bills break on Chrome on a regular basis and we always have to try firefox or edge to get them working.

So I am just curious, what is Microsoft's argument about moving to chromium and abandoning original Edge browser? Are they not aware a lot of sites still don't work on Chrome?

I use edge for one thing and one thing only, downloading Chrome. After that, I never have to open Edge again. If a website is so outdate that it doesn't open in Chrome, chances are it won't open in the Edge rendering engine either. And I sign into Playstation Now just fine with Chrome.

Realistically? Google not fully supporting browsers other than Chrome on their own sites and services... MS was just done with that and made a Chromium-engine Edge.

Honestly, I would rather they kept working on Edge's original engine...

True. I used to delete even the Edge shortcuts/taskbar icons from new installs. But after using it for extended period of time a few months back I kinda liked it. I don't need many extension support so it's enough that Edge supports Internet Download Manager and uBlock Origin. Only problem I faced was it didn't have a decent darl/night mode extension. For those wondering the best dark/night mode extension in my experience is Dark Reader.

Edge's biggest pro imo is it's abilty to open documents like pdf and epub. Iirc Chromium browsers can't. Could be wrong though.

Ultimately Opera is still my go to browser because I have so many bookmarks with Opera Mini for mobile and Opera desktop combined.

I suspect marketshare and cost to maintain are the reasons why they axed it. I agree with you though that making Edge Chromium-based is bad.

Website support is always iffy because the browsers don't handle everything the same way. I was going to back Everspace 2 on Kickstarter but the checkout page is broken on Edge. I'm not going to use another browser so...they might lose backers because Kickstarter hasn't fixed their page yet.

In general, I hate what the internet has become. Web pages are big, they never get to the point, they're buggy, some ads especially induce crashes and unresponsiveness, there seems to be a focus on providing as little data as possible in between mountains of media, etc. Web pages are so much more functional with JavaScript and CSS purged...but most of them won't even work. The internet was best when it was used and operated by nerds.

It's popular engine I expect ms expects Google to leverage market dominance for site compatibility, near zero critical thinking or input required only ui customisations so no money spent on development or promotion and lastly no liability for any mishaps ie it's Google's fault or rather their chromium engine they just wait for a fix.

imo it skewers the web bias extremely towards Google (unless they are no longer funding Firefox then its mostly) and stifles net diversification and in turn innovation.

Firefox is great, Opera isn't bad either. I leave like 50 tabs open in firefox (leftover habit from working cs in a call center) and I only ever had issues with a browser when windows was on an ssd.

I love Firefox too but I am forced to move to Chrome after Firefox quantum update. Alot of old add ons never work anymore and the most important for me being session manager. I am the type of person to open hundred of tabs and session manager are useful. It such a downner the update breaks many things.

I miss Firefox light weightness that even tons of tabs don't bog it down much.

I got in with Chrome.

Have you tried Edge Beta? I sure don't like Edge (even though it has improved greatly since first prematurely released with W10). But Edge Beta, which is chromium based and seems really nice - and quick, and it allowed me to log into Playstation Now just fine.

I've been a longtime fan, and still like IE. But MS is letting it fall by the wayside so I abandoned it when I migrated to W10.
FF has been riddled with too many security issues over the years. Even though they patch them quickly, there have just been too many for me.
So I switched to Pale Moon as my default when W10 came out. PM is a forked version of FF and I really like it.

That said, I have been using Edge Beta for a couple weeks. And it is a zillion times better than the original Edge. Worth setting your biases aside and checking it out.

Kickstarter informed me they got it fixed (confirmed). Some web developers do care. :)

hmm, I wish PS Now worked for me on Chrome, I tried everything it won't work... I even turned off ublock origin, etc still no luck. Maybe I need to enable 3rd party cookies again...

got it to work finally... PS Now is a blurry mess on PC... i have 1 gig down internet same as @newtekie1

playing god of war now on PC... yeah this is a real shame, imagine this game at 90+ fps and 1440p native PC build of the game... sweet mama this game would rock. this motion blur and 30 fps makes me want to throw up. i'll be cancelling my PS NOW trial. sony is making a huge mistake by betting on this part of their business model, they should be bringing games to PC instead native and unlocking refresh rate.
