Im fairly sure virtual racing ,fighter or starfox were the first 3d polygon based games?.

We can be fairly certain Microsoft and AMD will use dx12 RT so I can see Nvidias Rtx running it , but it's being reported that Microsoft and Sony are using different methods for Raytracing, that could make for three methods.

Apparently not... But good call nonetheless. There was indeed a time when consoles could do different things than a PC. But then again... the whole gaming thing was in its infancy to begin with. Going from the first Playstation, consoles have been following, not leading.

So... again :) Seeing is believing, so far the past consoles releases have been a very underwhelming affair, especially performance wise. This news piece announcement reads to me like 'the Xbox will do 1080p' and the 'PS4 can do 4K'. Historically also the GPUs under the hood were always derivatives of existing products for quite some time now.

Good call still IMHO, my examples are the first I and many others got to play or try.
There is still a chink of hope Sony added something.

Gingers crossed eh.

Oh and tbf the Dreamcast and ps3 really were quite special, just underutilized.

System Name just ordinary potato system, but dont understimate potato..
Processor ryzen raven ridge 2200g, ryzen 2600 upgrade:)
Motherboard msi b350 pc mate, biostars a320, asrock ab350m micro
Cooling x2 cheap china handmade, i got plenty aigo/fantech rgb fans now heh
Memory klevv dual channel 8gb 3000mhz, trident 16gb 3600mhz, random ddr2 stick
Video Card(s) back to square, using vega 56 now:D
Storage wd green ssd 240gb, 3tb seagate expnasion, random laptop hdd x4, 1tb 3.5
Display(s) acer vgo 22inch fullhd 75hz
Case cheap segotep/dazumba mid atx, alcatroz mini atx

Power Supply be quite system power9, powerlogic standar, voltron 300fx, thermaltake smart 1200w
Mouse rexus, genius ps/2, powerlogic ps/2 ball tracking
Keyboard rexus, random china product x3
Software talking abt best software, autodesk/unity3d/notepad yes notepad!!
Benchmark Scores theres nothing to brag abt potato, but it can run decent 30fps fullhd with good setting:)

i miss dreamcast, but ps3, nope, is not just, but a huge underuntilzd, i barely play constant 30fps, sometimes few games even drop to 20fps, thats hell one annoying, for those gen console, i can tell that xbox360 won the throne:D

I said Nvidia claiming "full hardware raytracing" is wrong as the neural net doing the denoising is software.
And I never said twice as many rays, I never said anything specific about the ray count.
Nvidia implemented ONE specific raytracing algorythm spending millions on hardware locking the 20-series to that specific way.
I don't understand what you mean by "full hardware raytracing". Computing is about software utilizing hardware.

The only segmentation that makes sense is about RT calculations being done by chips included on the graphics card - as opposed to putting a lot of load on CPU as well.

I hope your idea of fully hardware solution doesn't look like this:
133818

AMD simply does not have the R&D budget to waste on costly and limiting hardware implementations. Having an FPGA-on board may be a workarround, would increase prices by a lot though.
You spend one way or another.
Nvidia invested in RTX, because they sell a lot of expensive GPUs and they already had the tensor cores used for DLSS.

AMD doesn't sell as much and they'd need a "denoising" solution made from scratch as well.
For them it makes sense to go for a 3rd party FPGA and maybe a 3rd party RTRT solution as well (for PCs).

The funny part is... Sony and MS say they have different RTRT approaches, which would mean an AMD design is very unlikely (as an integral part of next Navi).
It might be that both Sony and MS developed their RTRT and AMD just incorporates these in custom GPUs.
Or it could mean that it's a separate chip from another company. That may even mean an Nvidia RT accelerator.

In case of Nvidia, they bought a startup/small company, looked at their specific ray tracing algorythm, then built hardware that does exactly that.
Nvidia beeing able to ship trained neural nets with their drivers to improve DLSS at the customer, is amazing. Thing is, they have the menpower to feed their basement supercomputer with data.
AMD would have to do the same, but in completly manual. Coding for FPGAs is

A GPU is a glorified ASIC, it does very specific things and does them well.
An FPGA aims to allow useage as many different ASICs.
Look at the higher-end FPGAs on the market, Xilinx Alveo series for example. The cheapest in the series, the U50 costs arround $3000. I think we can agree right here, that is not realistic.
Last nail in the coffin: Try to sell a 300W TDP GPU+FPGA card to reviewers.
