Stunning Microsoft Flight Simulator 4k preview

I remember playing this way back in the early 2000s, but this just looks like real life.
Apparently they're going to use the Azure platform for all this incredible detail, and a bit of Bing.

The development cycle for modules is very long though and a lot of them are still work in progress. They're finishing up the F-14 and F-18 and the F-16 just released but will be at least a year until it is fully out of early access.

If you're looking for an intermediate realism level look at the Flaming Cliffs module as that comes with a lot of planes that are more simplified for a cheaper price.

Some people like sims, and out of all of them the MS Flight sim has been one of the more interesting ones.
Remember, there are people out there that play railcar simulators, fishing/hunting sims etc., which is more boring than flying on an airplane in the most technically-accurate way.

And.. yes. This would be that typical VR killer app. Simulation game gateway drug, media exposure potential, eye candy and well suited for the hardware. Even if youd never understand this, you could still want it...

So I just looked at this thing on a proper monitor... words can't describe. The level of detail... I've seen a few water ripple artifacts on shore lines... other than that? You'd have to get a magnifying glass to spot inaccuracies. A.Ma.Zing. Its also so much more than just the world simulation... but the interaction with it and detail that's added. Wow. Also just from a tech/IT/progress standpoint. This is a massive feat.

Did you watch the interview up higher in this topic? Very interesting, it also talks about the tech they use. Big role for Azure cloud to cover some ground in performance.

The amount of drive space is most likely going to be absurd and you will need fast net for streaming too.

I think most people speed up a bit. Some don't though. In an older version a guy found a bug that caused a CTD on landing if you did one of the longestflights in real time. Itwas undiscovered for quite some time because no one did that floght in real time. And this is, as said, hardcore simulation. People build realistic cockpits from old airplanes for this, and make all the stuff on the control panels tie in to the game.
