2200g vs 2400g vs 3200g vs 3400g?

I'm looking at building a desktop to more or less replace an Inspiron 7737 laptop. It doesn't have to be super powerful, as even the 2200g, being a recent desktop chip, should be miles ahead of the now aging dual core mobile Haswell chip. I'm looking at these processors because they deliver the best bang for the buck in this scenario, especially with the integrated graphics. My main concern is whether or not the Vega 8 can match or hopefully surpass the performance of the GTX 750m? Looking at our own GPU database, it looks like the Vega 8 should edge out the GTX 750m in raw throughput, but of course, those numbers aren't everything. I'll likely be using a 2x8GB set of DDR4-2666 for this build.

go for better ram speed, raven ridge good pair with faster ram, 2200g is good alr, it can surpass gt1030 with xmp ram 3kmhz & igpu clock 1600mhz, also i wouldnt recomend you pay for a320 mobo, just pick another one

384 Kepler SP vs 512 Vega ones, clear victory for the Vega 8 unless you need to run something in OpenGL.
The Vega 11 options usually have terrible prices, making them not worth it unless you need 8 threads.
I personally would go for the 2200G and try to get a nice 3000 or 3200 kit, Corsair's Vengeance LPX seems to be a nice sweet spot if you manage to get a Samsung B-die revision (I'm loving mine).

Personally the 4 extra threads in *400g seem to be worth it, should make the CPU last longer. But of course, it also depends largely on the budget & what you're using it for.

What is your budget?
What do you bring to the table? That is, must that budget also include a keyboard, mouse, monitor and perhaps speakers too?

Don't forget a new computer typically requires a new Windows license.

I'll likely be using a 2x8GB set of DDR4-2666 for this build.

What does that mean? Do you already have this RAM?

No set budget, but I'm trying to keep it as low as possible while buying new stuff. That's why I'm looking at the 2200g. It should perform just fine while being cheap. It doesn't have to be super fast, I just want it to outpace the Inspiron 7737.

I'm looking at the 2x8gb 2666 because it's the cheapest 16gb kit I've seen. 8gb might be fine but 16gb is standard these days.

I got the windows license covered, probably need a wireless kb/mouse and a monitor. Don't need speakers.

im afraid that 2666 speed gonna hold ryzen potential, is abt almost extra 10fps if you can get 3.2ghz speed, above that speed i dont see significant perform gain anymore, maybe 2200g actually cap on 3.2ghz somehow, my sweet spot is vega 8 1.6ghz + ram 3.2ghz, ocing the cpu itself doesnt much help, so i leave it as stock clock, unless its bottleneck discrete gpu, anyway your call, if you do pick 2666 is a no problem indeed, you can also do a ocing with memory try it, again i repeat dont pick a320 motherboard, its a waste

Well, looks like Vega 8 is stronger than the GTX 750m. That's all I was really trying to verify. High end gaming isn't really happening on this system... really nothing more demanding than The SIms or something. I just didn't want to be building this desktop with weaker graphics than the laptop it's replacing.

As for memory, I'll take a look at faster kits. As I mentioned, I mentioned 2666 because it was the cheapest kit, but if I can get something faster for a few bucks more, I may go that route.

The 2400G is an excellent processor for what you want. I would pair that with some nice Team Force RAM. The base speed you would need is 3000MHZ to realize the potential of the AMD APUs. Don't forget that the GPU will use your RAM as it's video RAM so the faster the better.

2200G/3200G is the value king but 4 more threads and Vega11 vs Vega8 is a big difference.

When those iGPUs are what you need performance from, get as fast memory as you can possibly get. They are bandwidth starved with memory speeds 3600, 3800 and beyond scaling pretty well above 3200.
The other bit is that AMD's power management is tricky - it tends to prefer CPU over GPU. No OC on CPU is a good idea when hunting iGPU performance on these.

A320is not necessarily a waste, I have put together a system with A320 board, 2200G and 3800 RAM. Works like a charm, especially for the price.

Even though the A320 is not a waste I would still spend a little extra and get a B350 or 450 board. All of the 2400Gs I bought would OC to 4.0 with no voltage adjustment and the IGPU can be OC by up to 200MHZ.
