Pro tip, don't.

Gain is nearly non existant in real use cases and you do risk bricking the card. EVEN though the only difference is the boost clock range / manual OC. You stand to gain about 5% perf.

If you use MSI Afterburner, how much range do your power target and clock sliders have right now?

When you have the card in hand, post pics of the white stickers on card back or card heatsink before plugging into system, then after plugging in card get a gpu-z screenshot. Post clear pictures here

One sticker shows A8G and then the other has OC8G... I don't know what an A8G sticker should look like... but def check what BIOS is on there now and how GPUZ reads it. Might have gotten lucky.

Someone forceflashed a different bios to it

Back up your current bios using gpu-z, do you have an intel core i cpu or a secondary gpu and multi pcie 16x slot motherboard?

We are going to get the card back to stock

Here are stock files

OC files

Power limit removed, LN2/Peltier overclockers

More oc files

Yea weird, i switched it out for a EVGA 1080 tho maybe its bugged.

Hi, sorry for reviving this thread but I have troubles with my GPU (this exact one!) I have my 1080 since 2016 and in the last 2 weeks the GPU started to crash like crazy.
i always did a deep clean every 6 to 12 month, never applied more OC to it or flash another BIOS. i had it full stock.
Over a month ago I switched from a 1080 display to a 1440 one without any problem until 2 weeks ago, I started seeing black flashes when playing netflix or youtube, but nothing on games.
and 1 week ago, I got black screen crashes, at random (on boot, while log in to windows, seeing videos and playing any games) some days it run without any issue a whole day and other I have to kill the power from the PSU to get it to boot :/
i have tried deep cleaning, DDU, clean windows install, change pciE slot, use another PSU cables and nothing, I'm waiting for a new set of psu cables from cablemod to try that.
what i want to ask you guys is if flashing a different BIOS will help or not?
I'm open to any suggestion because now a days its difficult to get a new GPU and on the other hand new GPUs will be launching later this year lol

Thanks and sorry for revive this 2 year old post :)

You have a hardware fault that will not be fixed by a bios, replace the gpu.

there are two reason to flash a Graphics Card.

you want to achieve a record in some synthetic benchmarks with a special bios that lifts power/voltage limits or the card has a bricked bios or does not work as intended.

if none of this is the case don't do it. at best you gain nothing. at worst you have trouble to get it working again.

What make/model is your PSU and how old is it? Going to 1440 makes the GPU work harder and therefore likely draw more power, whilst this may not necessarily be the cause similar did happen to me a couple of years ago when I upgraded my monitor, it caused an aging average PSU to fall over the edge ...... slowly, at the time I could only get round it by playing a game in windowed mode.

It would help also if you could list your full system specs.

Sounds like hardware memory errors.

how can I do this without a heatgun??

also, a did flash a new BIOS and now it's more 'stable'
I flash this one https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/197719/asus-gtx1080-8192-171016
I had this one https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/185903/asus-gtx1080-8192-160630

I manage to run 3 time 3d mark fire strike extreme without any issue but it crashes sometime

also I change the pciE gen from 4.0 to 3.0 (idk if this helps or not)

I know this, I just want to extend a little more the life of my gpu so I could buy this year new gen of GPUs. The 3000 family here in Chile are a lot more expensive than in the US and like you know with little to nothing stock :(
