These are all in Canadian dollars. It is absolutely insane that the 3970 is almost $1000 less (not that you will be able to get one any time soon) than the 9980XE.

I don't know what Intel is smoking but how can they justify that the previous gen would be double (triple in Canada) the price.

Intel basically never drops their prices on previous gen stuff, go take a look at the list price for the 7700k just as an example...

We've seen this behavior before...most of the time prices drop on the older stuff. Sometimes not.

It's the same generation, Core i9 7980X, Core i9 9880X, Core i9 10980X - all are based on the same Skylake-X lithography, same TDP, same cash. They release a new chip just to increase the clock speed (to be more competitive performance wise), thermal and soldering specifications might change, and in the case of 10980X, increased memory speed and capacity, which is USELESS anyway, as this chip does not support ECC, so who would install 256 GB of RAM for generic, non server related apps anyway??? With Ryzen it's clearly technological improvements, that are established + significant IPC boost, with Intel it's just error corrections.
