Nvidia pushing DCH only drivers through geforce website?

I haven't seen a post on TPU or anywhere really...
Just went to geforce.com to download the latest driver. There was usually a drop down box to select standard or DCH drivers...that's now gone. It used to default to standard driver search but now defaulting to DCH.

Has nvidia stopped issuing standard drivers since 441.66 came? I mean standard were there when 441.66 dropped but...not anymore.

Same with the driver download page on nvidia.com

Have we reached the death of nvidia standard drivers and are joining the era of forced upgrades to DCH? :(

FAQs say you can find them (DCH) in the Windows Store.... did not verify reality. At least I think it is what you are asking.
As above, if I go through Nvidia or GeForce, I see typical WHQL standard options.

Yes DCH are WHQL drivers so they would show up as WHQL.

But they're a different driver type and the driver package doesn't include the control panel, instead it (supposedly, not always) automagically downloads the control panel via the windows store as a windows store app.

...numerous people dislike this behaviour but from the looks of it, it's going to be standard going forwards...

according the faq, you can still get standard though the advanced search.

Just used NVCleanstall to update and I still got WHQL (with the old control panel that I prefer). Methinks it depends on whether you already have DCH or WHQL drivers installed.

I remember when I accidentally let Windows Update install my GPU drivers and it did DCH. That was annoying.

They'd have no way of knowing via the geforce.com website what driver type you are running.

And yes, geforce.com is forcing them now. Go to all nvidia products and you will get your old options. So much for being "forced."

EDIT: Wait, the file is still on their servers for sure, but that link doesn't work anymore either. Lol, nice nvidia.

The installer probably does some sort of check when you run it.

I remember being artificially blocked from installing WHQL drivers because I had DCH drivers already. Had to DDU the DCH and then install WHQL.

I think the DCH driver is the correct path forward. Uncoupling the UI controls from the driver itself is a good thing IMO, and hopefully it will lead to the UI NVCP app being improved separately and more often, it's kind of slow.
I've been using the DCH variant since its first release, and pretty much all the drivers that have DCH variants, I switched to them. No issues whatsoever.

Here's one : Using a local limited account that is not tied to a Microsoft online user account.
With DCH you need to have MS store access to get the control panel, which means if you are not fond of being in the MS data pool or are on an office machine that isn't (for good reason) tying it's users to MS accounts then you are screwed if you want control panel access.

The link in Arbiter's post still works.

After you click on "all nvidia drivers" Instead of searching from that page Scroll down a little you see a section of links below with bold headline of "beta, older drivers and more" Select under "beta and older" drivers. That is how you get to a more advanced search which is link was in my post above.

thing is new NVCP if they make one might not work with older drivers so even if they do still might not matter one way or other.

You should be able to download and install the appx for Nvidia's CP from:

Select Retail, insert link to Nvidia Cp:

Get the appx file you need and install it.

Interesting work-around, thanks.
(though still requiring the store... but I have a few machines with access)
I'll try it out the next time I'm railroaded into a bright new DCH future.
Having local limited accounts is of far higher value to me than having the 'brightest new future' driver type, but I'd certainly accept having both.

Try running a variant of Windows 10 or server without the store...

Interesting workaround. I'd have a hard time justifying that on a server system though.

I would suggest a restraining order to allow that solution to be no closer than 500m to any given server.

However, if the appx can be dropped into local accounts on a per-user basis, then it should be a viable fix for multi-user workstations or home rigs. I would do some testing, but I'm already running the standard driver on all the nvidia machines and really don't want to go through the DDU gauntlet again until it is required.
