Vista Revelations...

Well, I was on Vista a few months ago but the driver support was total balls, so I used XP...

I upgraded my system a month back, formatted and put XP on. This morning I decided to have another go at Vista, so i installed it over XP, put my activation key in again, all was well...

Then a bit later I go to register it - "You key is already in use" - wtf??? too right it's in use - i'm using it!!!!

So it tells me to a)purchase another key, b)register later, c)call tech support

Guess it's going to be C tomorrow

i had reinstalled vista a few times, the latest time was after a hardware change.. i setup raid, i called microsoft from the uk, very helpful chaps imo, they gave me a code, sorted it all out. i was quite surprised how easy it was, since they went on trust rather than evidence, i could have been any1 with a stolen key, lol....

lucky uk bastard! last time i had to call them because my hdd got wiped (thanks, dad) they basically told me to go fuck myself.

Luckily I got my Vista Business Edition from MSDNAA, so I emailed the guys saying i'd been screwed over with my key, and I was sent another one within 10 minutes...

I pity the average PC user when they come to format and reinstall, then get told to effectively go and buy it again.

Do you have an OEM version?

I have a retail copy of Vista Business and have installed it on many machines with no activation problems. (Although never two at the same time)... which is how it should work.

sometimes u can call ms, and get a free replacement product key, usally they would charge u some fee, most likey a 10 dollar fee (rare occasions), just explain ur situation, bullshitting can only go so far...just be polite , i know its hard not getting furious with the phone tech support in india, but yeah

Heh, all I have to do is mention I'm a MAPs customer and I get my key reactivated without being asked for a reason

See, that happened with my Windows XP. Told me that I had activated it too many times, so I called them and explained that I have been using it on the same damn hard drive for years, and that I upgrade alot. He reactivated my key with minimal fuss. Just keep trying until you get someone that isn;t a jerk if they give you the "fuck off" speech.

That's basically how it's done. Keep calling them, and eventually you will get a key. I installed the 1 Year trial of XP Pro x64 (just to try it out, MS gives you a key), and I didn't like it as much (driver support), so I went back to XP Pro and it said that I activated it too many times. I called MS, and they said they couldn't get me a key. After a few tries, I ended up talking to a fellow Filipino (I'm Filipino!), so we got along well and I got a key!

hey good times, i always get the people up in india, its so annoying, finally when i got my key a person that actually spoke english, i have no problem with the people, i hate when they use the "try speaking directly in the reciever of your phone" to make customers even more pissed,

Microsoft Action Pack Subscriber. It's where we pay £200 a year and get £thousands worth in software aimed at system builders (myself) and business (my dad).

We tend to get 2 or 3 keys, and 5 or 6 activations, but they will reactivate as many times as needed because we are meant to be using the software to show off MS's software...but well we just don't get around to it
