I bought a 5.25 to 3.5 hotswap cage (iStarUSA BPN-DE110SS) and it works excellent but it has an extremely annoying blue surface mounted led inside which is persistent enough to leak around gaps in the frame. I have some 362K UL certified black electrical tape. Putting a tiny piece of black electrical tape over the small LED on the board eliminates the problem completely for me. Is there any risk of fire with this tape over the surface mount LED? I didn't want to de-solder it because I would like a solution that is reversible.

electrical tape can withstand heat over 200F, LEDs (my company makes and sells LEDs lights) barely break 100F in temp and I doubt your LED is pulling anywhere near the kind of power you need to even reach 100F.

I've got a strip of LEDs in the bathroom that I've got taped up with Purple and red, and there's been no problem at all for 4 years. except for needing to replace the tape, since steam and electrical eventually do mix :)
