Not going to miss it. Moved to 8.1 Pro about 5 years ago, and upgraded to 10 Pro on the release date.

7 is going to have the same thing XP had, some will use it years after years.. :D

There are still some people using XP...
So some people don't need over 3.5GB* RAM and they don't care about security :/

* 64-bit XP was always so niche that I doubt many ever used that.

I have used it in the past, had a 32/64 bit XP dual boot.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC it had pretty crappy driver support after all?

Even back in the day I don't recall hardly anyone using 64 bit XP. Back in the early 2000s to mid 2000s 4 GB (3.5 available to use) was plenty anyway for most people. Hell, I was using 2 GB and that was plenty for me for gaming and general use.

IIRC 512MB was fine in 2005, people started upgrading to 768MB/1GB/1.5GB in 2006 and some enthusiasts had 2GB. When Vista was released in 2007, then many upgraded to 4GB, partially because they moved to 64-bit and wanted also the whole 4GB to be usable. Vista did run with 2GB after all though.

Yeah there wasn't much you could do with it at the time.
I used it for SolidWorks back then.

I built my first gaming rig in 2007 and put in 2 X 1 GB sticks. A family member build my rigs before that so I don't know what he was using. iirc I think he mentioned with one of them either 2001 or 2002 that had 256 MB. XP wasn't a memory hog like Vista.

Vista would run on 512MB or less.

But didn't Vista run slow on less than 1 GB?

But didn't Vista run slow on less than 1 GB?

Yeah, it ran like garbage. That's why people got so pissed off at the whole Vista Ready/Vista Capable thing. Vista Capable just barely met the minimum requirements, so 512MB of RAM, and Vista ran like garbage on the system. Though it did technically run it. While Vista Ready met the recommended requirements and Vista ran much better.

Oh people, when will you ever stop using the crap like M@ or WinSpy 10? It got old long time ago.
And seriously, which games don't work OK on W10 and why you keep blaming MS for everything in that regard?

When they stop doing crap like this.... Which we know will never in itself happen.

And the fact for years Alexa was indeed classified as Spyware because that's what it did period. Proggys such as Spybot Search and Destroy didn't have it named as a positive for no reason, that I can promise you.

So - In short, it's WinSpy 10 and won't be on my machine by my hand.

I remember a time when some tech people swore that they would never give up their Windows XP but they did eventually. They will give up their Windows 7 eventually as well.

Yep. This all gets quite ridiculous because all the previous arguments back then were exactly the same as they are now. People just pretend that 10 years ago it was somehow different - it was not, "XP is the best, I will never change, damn M$, yada yada yada".

On top of that, I think most 64-bit software of the era just outright didn't plan on working with it. No hard data here, but every time I saw some 64-bit software, I never saw XP's 64-bit edition mentioned...

That's what Linux is for, was created by species 8472 as a means of resistance to aid Win 7 of 8 against the Win 10 collective.
Works for me too. :D

Any time I have to work on a Win7 PC I feel like my life and time is being taken away by how slow it is, (same hardware and everything else being equal)

That should never be an issue, honestly. Both should be practically the same in general UI response. I've got a test bench with ME, XP, 7 and 10 on it. Going between 7 and 10, even on old Ceder Mill P4s, has never felt any different. Hell there was a period of time after Ryzen's launch where 7 was actually the faster OS across the board.

Windows 10 search still sucks though, and slows me down daily. Like trying to find legacy software on an indexed storage drive just shits the bed every single time, all while refreshing the search with "here's some unrelated bullshit we found on Bing!"

You have a test bench with Windows ME, as in Millennium Edition? Full respect for that:respect:

And yeah, Windows 10 search is slow. I miss how fast the search function was on XP.

And the Bing search tagging along, I don't know what to think. Guess someone at Microsoft thought that I don't use browsers for that...

If my motherboard and all things would work on 7 i'd do that in a heartbeat. There's too much clumsy things going on with W10 that even all the telemetry in the world coud'nt fix still.

I just recently upgraded an in-law's PC to 10 from 7, using the media creation tool.... Surprisingly, Windows stayed activated. Used the 'keep everything' option. FFS, it took an eternity on an old spinning disk, dual core Phenom, with 4 gigs of RAM. But it worked and stayed activated. Hundred bucks saved!

Yep you could always upgrade any Windows 7 machine to 10 still for free, I have been doing this ever since they said they stopped it, which never actually happened and I will be getting plenty of business this yr from doing just that, offering a free upgrade to 10 if your still on 7.

Windows 10 is a very slow OS when its run on an old Mechanical HDD, this has always been the case, its complete snail compared to 7 in this regard, this is why every PC I build or upgrade to 10 I insist putting a SSD in for the OS to make it feel snappy again.

I will move to 10 once its out of Beta and I 7 becomes unusable till then Ill stick with 7 and there will be updates just gotta know where to look

Alexa the spyware program was not made by Amazon and has no relation to the modern voice assistant, but cool conspiracy bro.

Yep. This all gets quite ridiculous because all the previous arguments back then were exactly the same as they are now. People just pretend that 10 years ago it was somehow different - it was not, "XP is the best, I will never change, damn M$, yada yada yada".
To be honest, Vista was a complete and utter garbage when it was first release. Resource hug, sluggish as hell, took a lot of space, full of bugs, complete junk.

Alexa the spyware program was not made by Amazon and has no relation to the modern voice assistant, but cool conspiracy bro.
I don't believe it's coincidence that they happen to share the same name and perform the same basic function by design too.
Nope - Not buying it.
