Hi folks !

I currently have a PC with a i7 7700k 5ghz and a gtx 1070ti. I'm thinking about upgrading but is it a good time to do so ?
Any idea when new GPUs will be released ?
I'm leaning toward a rtx 2070 Aorus, a more expensive GPU but looks awesome and has very high oc out of the box.

Another question, I have a 560w seasonic x560, should I change to a more powerful one ?

Thanks !

It's never a good or bad time to upgrade unless something faster has already been announced it could be 3, 6 or even 9 months before new cards are released. To me it really comes down to are you happy with your current GPU performance.

The 2070 super really isn't that great an upgrade to me over a 1070 ti unless there is a specific game like RDR2 that does really well with Turing that you want to play. A 2080 super makes more sense from a performance gain standpoint to me.

I'm not sure about the super variants but the original aorus 2070/80 weren't very good even worse than the cheaper windforce cards.
I think the similarity priced MSI/EVGA/Asus cards are much better when it comes to thermals.

Your power supply is probably fine but a 650w Gold rated psu would give you much better headroom.

PSU is fine.

And 1070ti to 2070 is not a reasonable upgrade at all... totally...

1070ti user here, :) can confirm its currently not worth upgrading to rtx20 series unless you really want ray tracing.
im holding out for something more powerful than current offerings.

save your monies and upgrade when the next gen arrives, also upgrade to a 1440p monitor if you're on 1080p

Thanks for the replies. Actually I meant upgrading to a 2070 SUPER. I have a 1440p 144hz monitor.
Thing is I have a second pc with a i3 8350k 4,5ghz and a gtx 780 plugged to a 1080p TV. I do play on both pc different games but the 780 is starting to show its limit. I usually upgrade my more powerful pc and then put the gear from that pc to my living room one hence the upgrade from the 1070ti to a 2070 super.

I'm then fully aware that a rtx 2060 super would be an upgrade already for a lesser cost. Another option would be to not touch the 1070ti but upgrade the 780 to a gtx1660super or a rtx 2060.

There's also the amd option rx5600xt/5700xt but one seems to be lottery with bios flash and both I read have infamous driver issues.

Not a good time. Ampere or Turing 7nm shrink is just around the corner. We can expect at least 75% better performance or lower price.

Besides I77700K soon to be I310350K probably bottlenecks anything above 1070ti.

Not ok to run at 50Fps or 50% Gpu usage or both at the same time like I do on my 2070.

Unlike everyone else who has chimed in, I have actually upgrade from a GTX1080 to an RTX2080. Worth it, even without the RTX/RTRT features. A 1070ti to a 2070Super? Still worth it, but you'd be better off going with a 2080Super.

I agree and if you do buy an 2080 super and oc your rig then an 650W psu would be recommended.

And certainly AMD's coming GPU architecture developed also for next-gen consoles should be lot better in raytracing than RTX cards...
Or those consoles wouldn't run at any of advertised higher resolutions when using raytracing.

Is it sure that the next high-mid (300-500$) range gpus will be available before October this year ?

August-October are pretty popular times for GPU launches.

Not that Nvidia likely cares but my guess is they will want something new out prior to next gen consoles likely dropping in November. Nvidia staggers its releases with the 70/80 cards coming out first how much they will end up costing will depend on if AMD is still only competing in the sub $500 market.

And by that you mean they're not officially announced yet. Best case scenario Nvidia announces them at GTC (end of March) with availability from June on. Even then, the first SKUs may be Tesla cards, with consumer SKUs coming September or later.

If you need a GPU upgrade, do it today. Plenty to choose from and prices are way better than they were during the mining craze.

I did the same upgrade, wasn't planning on it, but the RTX 2080 cards came down a lot in price here when the Super cards came out.
At 4K, it's a very noticeable improvement.

Dude, take a chill pill. It's nice to be a fanboi and all, but right now, you're high.

So far, there has been no official statements from AMD or Nvidia with regards to when their new products are to be expected. My guess is that we'll have a better idea in June, but no guarantees, as both companies seem to be announcing fewer and fewer products at Computex. Might be sooner for AMD, as rumours are going around that they might announce something in March, not availability, but that they have something new...
Also, price ranges is anyone's guess, my guess is that we're at a point where graphics cards are simply going to be a lot more expensive than we're used to.

the thing is do you need to and do you want to, do you need RT , I keep asking myself the same thing and I keep coming up the the same no I don't, I have a 1080 with ekwb at the mo overclocked @2140 and its more than I need.

no,2020 will likely be another 2016 but better.nvidia has a die shrink and a new architecture, amd has rdna2 (rdna+rt) on 7nm+ if they decide to launch a gpu.

no one really needs rt
no one really needs ultra settings for that matter
the question is whether you like how they look
it's hilarious how people say they don't need rt but then argue how they absolutely need ultra settings.not you, just generally.
I agree,if you haven't bought a rt card up to this point,then don't now.
mine is frankly only thanks to the launch of super line and the fact that my 1080ti trio is pretty rare where I live,I was able to swap used for new with and rtx two games.otherwise I wouldn't buy a 2000 card.

Agreed, my son inlaw has a 2080 and to tell the truth it do play nice but not nice enough to want me to upgrade. I carnt see any difference between high and utra setting on my 1080 just a drop in frame rate.

To OP: next gen gpus from NV should be announced during Q3. Nobody knows when AMD is going to reveal its high end offerings.
I expect NV to improve RT performance. I don't expect that AMD solution will beat them.
While node shrink might boost overall performance i doubt it will be in the level of 75% like someone mentioned. I also don't expect NV to lower their prices, at least in high end where they dominate.
I'd say if you can still manage with your 1070 Ti hold off until announcements, see what are the offerings and once reviews are out pick whatever suits you best.

1070ti to 2070 isn't that much of an upgrade really either.20%.noticeable,but not really that big.
1070ti to 2070 super or higher.

If you have a new game that won't run well, or as well as you know it could - I'd upgrade the video card NOW. Sell the 1070Ti as soon as the new card is up and running.

And then start plotting to ditch the entire system in the fall when the next new hotness inevitably comes out.

Sounds to me as if you just have the upgrade bug and should hold off, but I will tell you going from a 1070 -->RX5700XT @1440 144Hz DID feel tons better. It gets it over the hump on the newer games. Hindsight 2020 I would spend the extra $100 and go 2070S or save it and flash a 5700.

If you don't really need it right now, it's not the best time to upgrade. New gen cards should be out within a year max. Then you can buy one for the main pc and put 1070Ti into the 2nd pc. That's what I would do at least.
