ASRock's Radeon RX 5500 XT Phantom Gaming comes at the AMD MSRP of $200, yet features a solid cooler with a metal backplate, idle fan stop, and very low temperatures. 8 GB GDDR6 give the card a performance advantage over the 4 GB version, even at 1080p. Is future-proofing worth it?

The Polaris just won't go away lol...

Something I would really enjoy seeing if possible is some workstation performance testing tasks.

The weaknesses of Navi and multimonitor support are still there. Try two monitors of different resolutions... I wonder if it still chugs power.

This is an acceptable price, I guess? It is 8 GB, so at $200 it trades blows with it's older brothers: RX 580/590. If this was $180, this would destroy the 1650 Super and make people think twice about the 1660 non-Super, making it the best budget bang-for-buck.

As I have written before, you get a wrong idea about the RX 570 as you only use the 4 Gb versions.
You are using 3gb & 6gb versions of GTX 1060, so why not use 4gb & 8gb versions of RX 570.

In many of the games it will fall back because of the 4Gb.

Personally I think it should be cheaper. The RX580 8GB is generally cheaper than 5500xt 4GB where I live.

Good showing for As Rock and AMD. Hopefully these sell like hotcakes and if they are priced close to MSRP they should. This looks like a perfect card for the 1600AF. Dare I say a real retail Gaming PC for less than $500 (Including the GPU)?

Based on the specs announced/shown, the RX 5500 is only going to differ in base click but same boost clock???same shader count and memory?? How is this worth buying. They should perform identical if temps are kept in check. Just baffled/confused that those two products are damn near twins

It might be due to the cost of even a standard non-OC version of the 5600XT. They are within spitting distance of $300.

Though I think it's an oversight to be honest, as it's the next step up in the AMD stack and fights with the 1660/1650.

The unequivocal 1080p card that has the legs/memory to give 1440p entry if thinking of a panel upgrade. Being RX 590 are drying up in this price range we are now at time to consider a RX 5500 XT like this. Would I rather see the going retail prices moving lower... I don't see that happen soon as the market around $160-200 is entrenched/stagnate.

I like this AsRock and while fans are more in dBa if I found it in my situation needing to be lowered there's room for that while not sacrificing the heat envelope. Being great efficiency I see this worth doing the OC to pick-up that extra 5%, while I wish RTG gave a little more on the memory slider to get to like 1890 Mhz. I think that would provide a worthy boost, though I'm sure that's tough given who/what memory chip AIB's put on their boards.

The problem is that I'm not sure yet how to include 5600 XT .. base version vs OC new BIOS. The difference is huge: 10%. So which one do I use as reference, or do I use both? which complicates things, adding work, potentially confusing users too

I'd assert if all AIB's going forward are factory installing the BIOS then that is the actual spec. Most who were making that early determination around release were seeing it and that was good for first reviews and they understood. Anyone looking at latest reviews would be receiving the performance they're getting now/today to make decisions or later to produce considerations over the prospective months and historically. Going forward reviews and the Data Base indicates the new Bios spec's then the it's performance at such must to be demonstrative of that.

Other than an innocuous note on the GTX 970 Data Base, who remember's Nvidia's distortion of memory operation.
3584 MB + 512 MB
224 Bit + 32 Bit

While no a smooth release, RTG isn't presenting from a position deduction, but the perspective of addition and shouldn't be chastised perpetually.

Hadn't heard that AIB's are going to keep sending out SKU's on the original spec's. That stinks those should be marked and marketed as RX 5600 LT.

From my reading of the situation all future ones should be, only the cheapest SKU from launch day unable to run those clocks won't.

But I do understand your point, amd really shit the bed with that launch. It is stuff like that where they have really lost the mindshare :/

Nice card from AMD, very power efficient and running cooler...which has always been a big problem with them. They could have made the backplate cover the whole heatsink though, looks odd.

In the UK 1660 6GB can be had £5 cheaper and performs better than 5500XT. Don't really see there is a market for this card.

Misguided much? Too close to call within margin. There is a market for this card because not everyone wants to risk buying a used 480/580 or 1060...

Well according to TPU own performance summary (@ 1080p and 1440p), 1660 is about 7 - 8% faster than 5500XT. I don't count 8% as within margin of error. As for 4K, yes a mere 2% difference is within margin, but neither is usable at that resolution. BTW a brand new 580 8GB is about £40 cheaper.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)

Most of these cards have a new bios out with higher speeds. Like I assume motherboards are handled, use the latest BIOS for each card (why would you leave performance on the table when it is avaialble for all?). Performance is what it is... be it better with a new bios, or not without one. But if a BIOS is available at the time of review/benching, it should be used.

To prevent running two tests, consider putting an asterisk next to the card and note it is using the faster bios, cards without this increase perform notably less and link to a card review that doesn't have the new bios/better performance.
