Supposedly I look up freesync with GSYNC and your monitor comes up

none of PG-series monitors are adaptive-sync compatible accoring to this site

Considering there is a slew of them and there are hacks but sometimes those are hard to implement

Okay so I'd rather stick with Nvidia then.
Could I have the link of the 2060s and 5700xt comparison ?
Because of what I've seen the 5700xt was very close to a 2070s especially with recent drivers.

and 5700xt comes close to 2070s just as often as it loses to 2060 super.

Depends on what you do with.
Running above 1080p you will see a difference.
I would get a watercooled 2080/S, but silicon lottery will have a big impact.
I swapped 2080 for 2080S (both evga FTW hybrid), and with same settings (power/temp limits, vram oc), the non S is a bit faster as the chip boosts better.

Boost clocks drop once you pass 40/50/54*C (and so on),
So having the card as cool as possible will have a big difference on clocks.
The aircooled 2080S didn't even hit/pass 2ghz, cpu water cooled and setup to dump the heat outside the case, so nothing else was impacting cooling (air cooled card).

look for open box at Amazon and microcenter..

using site performance graph's going from a 2070ti to a 2070 is around 16-20% depending on rez so if you think its worth it then all power to ya. Might look around for a 1080ti see what you can snag one those up for which is a little bit faster then 2070.

Thanks for the replies. Actually I meant upgrading to a 2070 SUPER. I have a 1440p 144hz monitor.
Thing is I have a second pc with a i3 8350k 4,5ghz and a gtx 780 plugged to a 1080p TV. I do play on both pc different games but the 780 is starting to show its limit. I usually upgrade my more powerful pc and then put the gear from that pc to my living room one hence the upgrade from the 1070ti to a 2070 super.

I'm then fully aware that a rtx 2060 super would be an upgrade already for a lesser cost. Another option would be to not touch the 1070ti but upgrade the 780 to a gtx1660super or a rtx 2060.

There's also the amd option rx5600xt/5700xt but one seems to be lottery with bios flash and both I read have infamous driver issues.

2070S is a reasonable jump but price wise not fantastic if you are already close to it, and going higher this late in a gen is a complete waste of money.

Wait for ampere if you can.

2060S is a baby step, I saw it mentioned... 400 bucks for near 1080 performance in 2020?! Horrible deal. 2070S at 560 odd is so-so but will at least be a notable jump.

in addition for high refresh I think going much higher isnt directly beneficial either because the CPU might limit you a little. Esp if you can cover frame dips with Gsync. The net gain here is maybe 6-10 FPS average and some fancy RT in a very low amount of games. Is that worth 400-560 to you?

Im looking at a similar upgrade path and see no reason to jump on anything yet.

I agree, with a 1070ti to get a meaningful upgrade that will last at least multiple years I would go 2080s but even that we've had similar performance now at a similar price for 3 years and it seems way out of his price range... The 2060s is pretty meh compared to a 5700XT especially on more recent drivers.

Its a long shot but I am expecting an Ampere 3070 to land well above the 2070S right now with much better RT on top and at a lower price. It kinda has to become the new 970 at this point or its a useless release to begin with. Turing still only offered a meaningful price jump on a select few cards compared to Pascal. (2060 @ 350; 2070S @ 550) and the rest is just filler if we disregard RT.

I'm thinking they will cost the same but every card will be slightly faster than whatever tier is above them. So a 3060 will be slightly faster than a 2070s for example for $400. Mostly due to not believing AMD will be able to compete with ampere as they need a whole node advantage to compete with Turing.

I agree that RT performance will improve by a meaningful % but I also worry that it will be more of a focus than raster performance.

I also think chips will be smaller on 7nm partly due to cost and partly due to how complicated it probably is to make a 2080 ti sized die and what that may cost as it is AMD has a massive die size advantage vs a 2060s and still charges around the same.

19% is not that near
not great either, but very much noticeable
2070s is certainly better, you're getting +40% on top of your current 1070ti

@Vayra86
going with 2070/2080 might be a waste in "your" eyes, does not make it for everyone.
i sold my 1080 and wasn't gonna wait until ampere (when again? ;)) without having a gaming (capable) gpu.
especially was worth it to me, since i got a LC card as open box for 650$.

as long as we dont pay for a users hw, we can recommend to not get something,
but the value/cost is a waste is in the eye of the beholder.
the same way we dont need a +300K 2 door super sports car as a daily driver,
still doesnt mean that the person that wants one and has the money for it,
shouldnt get it just because it cost multiple times more than a "normal" sports or any other car i can use to go from A to B.

@Vayra86
going with 2070/2080 might be a waste in "your" eyes, does not make it for everyone.
i sold my 1080 and wasn't gonna wait until ampere (when again? ;)) without having a gaming (capable) gpu.
especially was worth it to me, since i got a LC card as open box for 650$.

as long as we dont pay for a users hw, we can recommend to not get something,
but the value/cost is a waste is in the eye of the beholder.
the same way we dont need a +300K 2 door super sports car as a daily driver,
still doesnt mean that the person that wants one and has the money for it,
shouldnt get it just because it cost multiple times more than a "normal" sports or any other car i can use to go from A to B.

This guys talking about getting a 2060S because a 2070S isn't a good value in his country over $600 usd for almost every model with the better ones being near $700. Would you spend over 600 for a 2070s? The 2080s range from $8‐900 usd depending on how much noise you're willing to live with to keep it cool which would be an ok upgrade but out of his budget.

A 14-18% performance bump assuming he has a terrible 1070 ti that doesn't overclock very well makes very little sense to me for $440 ish usd going with a 2060s

At the end of the day its his money if that's appealing to him more power to him.

Well we can only HOPE that's the prices for the 3060 at launch will be around 400$ but I can also very well imagine the prices being higher with custom models and if the performance over the 2x00 series is really significant. Where I live a rtx 2060 is still at least 360€ for the cheapest model.

To go back into the thread, indeed my 1070ti overclocks very poorly unfortunately so I leave it at stock.
And I said earlier I also have a second pc with a i3 8350k @ 5ghz (could probably push it higher) coupled with an old gtx 780 oc and that card should probably retire soon as it will so into my sons pc. So I could also keep the 1070ti for now and upgrade the 780 instead (gaming at 1080p/60ghz) and I'm leaning towards a gtx 1660 super (250€) or a RX5600XT (340€) considering the 5600xt is quite better than the 1660 super.

Yeah, tough spot to be in I would probably just buy the fastest card you can afford and put the 1070ti in the i3 machine in that scenario....

With both systems getting a bump that cost is at least somewhat divided between the 2.
