ok now i return to my wait on the release of Horizon: Zero Dawn on STEAM so i can give up the idiotic idea of buying a PS4 Pro

although the Xbox One Series X is lovely (and HARDWARE RTRT WITHOUT GREEN IN IT! oh wait ... the piece under the venting grid is green ... DAGNABBIT!) might need one if i can replay old exclusive of the 360 on it ... (Lost Odyssey and Magna Carta II yes yes ... i am looking a you two )

sidenote: i love how every console launch/pre launch/announcement, turn into a "it will destroy PC." when in the end a console is like a Demon in Doom (2016 or Eternal) and a PC is the Slayer .... demon never upgrades they are just replaced ... Slayer is ETERNAL and get a lot of upgrades... (ok ... not funny ... i'm out )

Last gen systems where garbage on release using very low end parts compared to pc basically a tablet cpu with a 7850 ish gpu and still costed $4-500. This is worlds away from that but by the time these consoles release Nvidia/AMD will likely have much better hardware available.

Most PC gamers seems to still be using quad core and 1080p monitors with some barely starting to adopt high refresh displays so in a sense if you just look at the majority these consoles do destroy them spec wise.

A lot of people here don't really apply I mean some of our CPUs cost more than these whole systems will.

Considering almost every developer targets console as a base these new systems with their pretty decent specs should push gaming forward.

You also didn't finish Lost odyssey? I have been haunted by not finishing that game for many years now...

I think that this is rather good. While I am not wanting to spend more money on upgrading my system, I am due for a whole system refresh. Am in need of a new CPU and GPU. But I am glad I kept my GTX 1070 as its a solid GPU. But with this new consoles, it will push further development in games. And also hardware development too. Maybe new lower end CPU's wont be quad cores but bigger? Maybe GPU's will make big leaps with this RDNA2 and also reduce overall costs in order to be competitive with the consoles.

This is my dream at least.

i confess some exclusive tend to make me own at last one console, i had, actually i still have the first 3 i list first, a Saturn a Dreamcast a PS2 (well now with the emulator i don't need any PS or PSP PS2 i am using either my phone tablet, Retroflag GPi case a modded PSClassic for PS title and many other consoles or just PC for PS2 titles, and ofc only title i own physically ) a Xbox (original ) a 360 (which i tragically sold during a time of need) no ps3 or 4 tho, no exclusive for them tempted me until H:ZD but STEAM release incoming corrected that issue

Console plebs never learn: consoles are static targets (their blessing and curse) where PCs are moving targets (follows Moore's Law more or less). XSX will be rendered...slow...the moment RDNA2 consumer cards launch which will be at about the same time. Spend $400+ on that console or $400+ to upgrade your gaming computer, you're going to come out with more overall performance from the $400+ graphics card.

Years down the road, just like the XBO, XBOS, XBOX, PS4, and PS4P, XSX will be obsolete--painfully slow compared to other tech of the day.

There's nothing special about XSX/PS5. This is history repeating, again, and again, and again.

Meanwhile, I laugh at their 1 TB SSDs when games are 100+ GB now (it's so fast! oh wait it's full). FordGT90Concept strokes his 12 TB Seagate Exos. Microsoft and Sony are expecting to make big bucks off of selling bigger proprietary SSDs for those consoles. Like, HUGE $$$.

These consoles will push new features for PC since game developers will have the power to utilize them, look at Ray Tracing for example. It was looked at as a gimmick when first introduced but now that it will be implemented wide scale we will see more adoption of it on the PC. Also it really does look like we will see more competition now that AMD finally has it together on the CPU and GPU front.

I have a 1070 myself but I am starting to think I need to upgrade now.

I'd argue that all that extra hardware gives them leeway to be sloppy. There will be less optimization compared to previous generations.

Maybe its because I've been gaming at 120hz+ for almost half a decade but for me its painful to game at 60hz or lower.

It absolutely will, just like the higher RAM limits of current gen consoles have led to games reserving metric loads of RAM for no reason, and why the larger blu ray disks and faster internet connections have led to games that are pushing 200GB, and the prevalence of internet connections have led to a patch culture where games are not finished for upwards of a month, with things like real money shops and patches that make games slower and grindier releasing long after reviews are out.

It'll still be a gimmick. Oh, you slightly altered the lighting? That was worth cutting my framerate in half and buying a new $750 GPU. Outside of screenshots, the effects are unnoticeable, in shot they are barely noticeable, hardly something like the performance jump from dedicated to unified shaders or effects from hardware T+L.

If your 1070 still works fine, no reason to upgrade unless you really feel the performance is tanking. My Vega 64 is still more then adequate for me at 1440p, and it'll likely last into 2021 at this rate.

The Xbox X will cost $999 or more. Which in reality is still a very good deal considering how much a PC with that much power would cost. They will use a subscription model to lower the price some, but not much. The PS5 will be $500 to $600, maybe more but I dont think so. Microsoft will release a stripped down model for the normal console prices. Anyone thinking the Xbox X is going to $400 to $500 is just wishful thinking.

I am really curious to see if hard drives are going to be bottlenecks for next gen games.

Also, Sony isn't going to sell any proprietary storage, you can expand using any (validated) commercial m.2 nvme SSD. It just needs to be a really fast pci-e 4.0 one. Which is going to cost a pretty, pretty penny.

Sony apparently uses standard M.2 SSDs and will let their customers use those. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

And why would they be? All the gaming engines are streaming these days. They'll work at 5 GB/s and they'll work at 5 MB/s. The only difference is how long it takes to load (or pop in).
