PC Crashes and wont Startup again until 24Pin PSU reconnected to Motherboard

Like in the title descripted, crashes my pc. This happens when playing games in really high resolutions.

My Setup:
Medion Erazer PC
- RTX 2080 ti
- Cougar Power 700
- 32Gb RAM
- Intel i7 8700, 3.2GHz

Crash behaviour:
Pc shuts down unexpectetly without any error signs (Like cutting off the power). Whats even more irritating is the fact that the PC wont turn on, until I disconnect the 24Pin PSU Cable on the motherboard and plug it in again.
I guess its an error in the hardware cuz the system Logs doesnt hold any critical events.

Ive sent my pc to a reapairstation of Medion. Now it came back with the error still existing but an upgrade in hardware. It turned out they replaced my older rtx 2080 with the ti version and upgraded my psu.

Does anyone have a clue what is going wrong with my pc?
Thanks for any help :)

What about the motherboard? Was it replaced? Could be the 24pin connection itself isn't sitting soldered onto the motherboard all too well. I mean if the PSU has been replaced, issue is still happening and the only way to fix it is the method you describe, then I would feel safe to say it is that.

@sepheronx the motherboard wasnt replaced, yet... I'm trying to find out if there are any other possibilities than ending up sending my pc to medion again and again until they find the issue. If nothing will help this will be the way i'm going for. But especially in times like these I cant afford to forgo my Pc for months.

If it was a bug in the motherboard isnt it kinda strange, that it can run forever under normal conditions without facing any issues?

@xtreemchaos The PSU was also my first guess... It seemed like the power supply wasnt enough when the cpu and gpu went high on performance, but they replaced my 350W with a 700w so im pretty sure it cant be that...

Instead of unplugging the 24-pin connector, I suspect you could just unplug the PSU from the wall.

In any case, I would try a different PSU to see what happens.

Wattage matters less than quality. What is the brand of the PSU?

Other possibility is the motherboard is faulty. If the PSU is good quality I would definitely recommend replacing the board.

A 2080 and 8700 and they gave you a 350W PSU? I don’t know much about electricity but wouldn’t be surprised if the motherboard was damaged.

Cougar Power 700, it's 700W and looks good enough for that config

If cutting power to the motherboard and reconnecting is the only way to start the PC i would says the motherboard is probably faulty

The issue began with a 350W PSU and a 2080. OP sent it in for repair and it came back with a 700W PSU and a 2080 ti.

Since it's a pre-built I'd say send it back to Medion and let them sort out the problems.

keep the gpu and psu and just change the mobo if you dont want to send it back. with the difference you gain from 2080 to 2080ti you can afford a new mobo

I agree, if this actually works the system may be triggering over current protection or heating up too much.

This can be checked by downclocking components then retesting, if a reduced load stop's it happening then a bigger rated PSU could help.

Considering the guys at Medion were building an i7 + 2080 with just a 350W PSU (crazy no matter how good the quality was), I wouldn't be surprised if the motherboard got damaged by them. Also the CPU cooler/thermal compound might not be installed/applied properly.

If the cooler was not properly mounted, the CPU would reach thermal protection thresholds in seconds after boot. The OP says the problem occurs during high stress gaming. So it would seem the cooler is properly mounted.
but they replaced my 350W with a 700w
Are you sure it was a 350W supply before? I agree with Parn here and that would be too light. Assimilator is right and quality matters more than wattage, but underpowered, regardless the quality, is never good. IF lucky, an underpowered PSU will simply shut down when the demand exceeds capabilities. But if not lucky, permanent damage could occur.

I solved it : ) thanks to all ouf You!
It was an overheat-protection
I dont know why, but my CPU was constantly running in trurbo mode ( bout 4.3GHz ) , even when the cpu wasnt needed. My standard CPU Fan Cooler from Medion is just too inefficient to handle this heat. So I checked the CPU temperature and it climbed up to 90-100 C° before the PC shut down himself in order to protect against serious damage. I resetted the BIOS and had to install the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to get the CPU making usage of the Turbo boost properly again. I also addes two fans and increased the airflow. Now after a stresstest I can luckily say that this all fixed my problem. The system runs stable with a CPU temp below 70C° while playing in 4k with highest resolution and watching YouTube vids in HD on a second monitor.

I still dont know why my PC didnt throttle the CPU before burning to death or why it didnt startup again himself after shutdown like the described behaviour in overheating should be...
I've excluded the case of overheating waaay too eraly, cuz when u read about the "symptoms" of it my behaviour was pretty unusual.

In the end I really hope this can help someone else... and Im really sorry for bothering the medion service center with such a weird case. I dont know what it was that told them it was the GPU not running properly and why they ended up upgrading my rtx... but gee thanks ^^

And just as a sidemark: you couldnt get the PC on, if u just unplugged the PSU from the wall... U had to take out the 24Pin cable at the motherboard... I really dont know why. I have also tried to unplug the psu from the wall and remove the battery on the MB, but still not been able to boot up.

Great! I am glad you got it sorted out and thanks for coming back to post your solution.

but pretty sad that Medion ships PCs that overheat by default.
It is not certain overheating "by default" is correct. We still have not got verification this PC originally shipped with a 350W PSU - which clearly would not be sufficient when the CPU and GPU are both taxed at the same time.

Also, I found the description of Medion Erazer computers a bit... odd... conflicting? It says the "Medion Erazer - The Ultimate Gaming Experience", then says of its P-Series that it is developed with "Casual Gamers in mind". Then it reports to be part of the "Lenovo" group (a Chinese company) but then claims to be a "top German PC brand, German quality and engineering is in our DNA! "

While it seems they are a bit confused about their DNA (as am I), pretty sure no company would assemble a computer marketed for gaming that defaults to overheating.

When I go to the page for their desktops https://www.medion.com/gb/gaming/erazer-desktops/index.html I get this:

In the end I really hope this can help someone else... and Im really sorry for bothering the medion service center with such a weird case. I dont know what it was that told them it was the GPU not running properly and why they ended up upgrading my rtx... but gee thanks ^^
You shouldn't feel bad at all... if they really shipped a 2080 and a 8700 with a 350W PSU then they failed to provide you a functional computer.

Okay - good to know it was never an underpowered 350W in there. Thanks for the update.
