i apologize in advance if this has been brought up.

so let me get this correct.....dx10 cards are available ie, nvidia's 8 series and ati's 2x00 models
their dx10...but only windows vista is dx10, capable, so far? but nothing utilizes dx10 yet, probably end of this year/early 2008 theres suppose to be a flood of dx10 drivers? games will start being dx10 by default and maybe give dx9.0x (mainly dx9.0c) some other effects, but not all of it. so on vista, apparently the GUI is for dx10, but people who upgrade are probably still using dx9 cards, sooo...vistas GUI is made for dx10...but alternatives are/were made for the average gamer/consumer....on the other note MGS4 hell yeah

right.some games (company of heroes, call of juarez) use dx10 already.
vista`s gui works ok with dx9 cards.
on a side note dx10 performance isn`t always great.apparently sp1 for vista speeds it up a bit-might be worth waiting for.

HEH now....

There is a project for DX10 support under Windows XP, and it works!
google it, you will find what you need.

But yes the rest of the story is true, dx10 is still a bit buggy and the lower/middle line cards performance isn't really on par "yet", hopefully drivers advancement will keep giving them a little kick.

good stuff, i can probably modify it for MAC OS 10, probably some heavily modding of the source code, or start from scratch....after i fix my xp from a vista solution, i will start installing dx10, but maybe if some people on tpu can reassure me its not bogus or a project that has been started and not completed, ie emulators lol ie ps2 emulators to be exact

Most, if not all DX10 games only use portions of DX10. When the same game is compared to DX9 there is very little difference, in some cases no noticeable difference at all (Lost Planet rings a bell). Games like Crysis show very little difference between it's DX9 and DX10 counterpart. Some people have been totting the idea that DX10 is nothing more then a marketing plot to get people to buy Vista. Google "dx10 & marketing" if you want details.

The truth of the matter is simple, there is no tangible advantage that DX10 offers over DX9 when frame rates come into play. It's funny when console games can look and feel as good as the most current game on the PC. Look at BioShock and Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation on the xbox 360 for example! While we are scrambling to upgrade from XP to Vista just to play Dx10 games and upgrading from DX9c video cards to DX10 and now DX10.1 video cards console players are enjoying games at the cost of the game only. Seriously, that makes me sick to even think that this is how things are suppose to be for us PC owners. It's no wonder the PC gaming community as a whole and the PC gaming market has shrunk! And no wonder that PC games are treated like the red-headed step child of gaming IMO. What, don't believe me? Look at all the second handed, ported games we've seen so far:
-Lost Planet
-Call of Jaurez
-Ghost Recon. Ghost Recon 2
-Rainbow 6: Vegas
-BioShock
-OTHERS
just to name a few. There are some that are not "ported" per say but are given to the PC gaming community only after released on the console 1st. Ha, ha! A true EYE OPENER!!

You do hit it right on the button... DX10 is far more capable, but is also a ways away from being fully implemented to the point its worth upgrading.. But in the meantime, if you have some games that will play dx10, and a dx10 card, why not patch xp to use it :)

right on...........but i guess in order to see the difference i would have to put together a dx10 rig (soley for dx10) and sit next to a dx9 pc, and see the actual physical difference and appearances, between a dx10 screen shot and a 9x9 screen shot, at the same resolution, blah blah blah, speaking of google, dont get me wrong they were awesom, when nobody used their search engine, but it seems like every company who gets ownd by google starts to become crappy in content IMO....ie youtube, before google aquired them youtube was awesom, and now google owning them, google has to put their annoying tradmark link ......did you mean....[attempt to find what you are looking for] gosh complete idiots, if their going to be a internet monster, since internet giant seems so late 2006, gunna start a google thread lol

Thanks, it's truly ashame that some are not astute enough to figure this out already. Let alone act on it out of good conscious. Out of all the releases for the PC so far and there are very little, Crysis in the ONLY game most know about and await. Games like:
-London: Hell Gate
-BioShock
-Alan Wake
-Half Life 2: What ever section they decide to release this time
-World Conflict
-Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts
-and a few others
aren't talked about much and are a after thought to most. This is because these games only appeal to certain people in that Genre and WILL NOT appeal to the masses on the PC IMO.

Well thats its its whole new programming that most developers just got their hands on, so the engines have to be re-programmed to work with it, and then front ends done properly... Lots of work.

I figure we are a year or possible 1 1/2 years before dx10 starts taking any market in what its capable of really. Mainly because games have to be playable decently on a $1000 computer and game companies know this all too well.

Exactly :)

Which is why I'm going to give it about a year... I mean DX9 was out for about a year before any games got released that really pushed it.
