I recently bought a 5700xt nitro+ to replace my gtx 1060 6gb which was running fine and now I'm getting black screen crashes with the new card. I'm using an EVGA B2 750w psu and I've set my ram back to stock rating. I've got asus express gate enabled and connected two seperate power cables to the card. I also just installed the drivers without the radeon software and I'm going to do some benchmark testing to see if it crashes using Superposition benchmark.

Anybody with a x58 system run this card successfully with minimal crashes? Next thing I can try I figure is roll back drivers.

If you can POST, it's most likely not chipset related. Try without the overclock, which looks unstable (C1E/EIST on with BCLK 200, vcore of 1.4v).

PCIe link should be x16 2.0. Press on the ? near bus interface in GPU-Z.

Should I disable C1E/EIST then? I was originally at 4.55ghz but left vcore up when I turned down BCLK to make it more stable.

With the render test it changes to x16 2.0.

I also got speedstep on, should I disable all the power saving features?

I had a similar issue with my RX5700 turns out it didn't like using the zero fan option so I set a manual fan curve that doesn't allow the fan to stop cured my black screen problem

Reset all overclocks and see if symptoms persist, if not your problem is the overclock. If they remain you may have encountered legendary AMD driver stability issues, which sadly you can't do much about.

Also, why are you using a 5700XT in a system that can only run it at PCIe 2.0? Apart from the PCIe bottleneck, your CPU and memory are almost certainly also holding the card back.

The PSU is bronze, upgrade the PSU. But then again.... PCI-E 4.0.... even myself would then buy something completely new to run this GPU.

5700s are crashy in general

Dafuq does bronze rating have to do with stability stop telling people to buy new psus in every AMD crashing thread like eidairman always did

Yeah, the OP really should have stuck with Nvidia if he wanted smooth sailing, besides Navi has frequent additional issues when paired with old platforms as often pointed out by the YT channel Philscomputerlab

LOL, a 750w EVGA Supernova and you say, upgrade the PSU :D. Then again, the Nitro 5700XT is the biggest "gas guzzler" of them all, so who knows...
Well, it worked for me as mine was Bronze and 10 years old and the mentioned PSU is bronze, and that's not really a good idea for something strong like this Nitro.

Not every bronze psu is a 10 year old part about to fail.
They come new too.
And again efficiency rating is irrelevant.

Apparently it's too much nowadays to expect people to understand that parroting incorrect information to others is the exact opposite of helpful. Hence my signature.

As if repeating what others say is helpful. I rest my case and see what is the outcome....

C1E and eist is a waste of time and effort on x58 unless you are running @ stock clocks. It doesn’t work as it does on modern platforms. Can’t help you with your gpu sorry.

If you overclock with BCLK, C1E/EIST should not be used.

I disabled C1E.

I think my PSU is around 4-5 years old but I can't find when I got it exactly. I like using my old x58 system for nostalgia sake and it gets comparable fps to ryzen 2600 and even beats it in some games with the right overclock as seen in TECH YES TV vids comparison vids on youtube. I'm also switching to 1440p from 1080p so I figured that should take some strain off my cpu although my ram is a bit slow. I've seen people with 1080TIs on their old systems which is comparable to a 5700xt so I figured to try it out for fun. I would have went Nvidia but gpu prices in Canada are ridiculous right now.
I've yet to do heavy gaming (crashes playing Persona 4 Golden lol) as my old 1080p 144hz Benq doesn't have display port so I'm waiting for my LG 1440p 144hz monitor to come. I guess I'll try some Warzone to see if it was the RAM/CPU overclock causing issues or if it is my power supply.

No crashing so far in warzone although I'm getting some framedrops at 1440p causing stuttering. Otherwise, it seems to be working well with around 80 - 100fps ingame. New monitor looking real nice too.

Every possible way. X58 is 2 days older than dirt. It’s still a heck of a lot of fun to play with, since you have to think a little bit to overclock, or cheat and use a calculator lol. Modern systems have it outgunned in horsepower, I/O, power efficiency, etc. I put my x58 in a box 2 days ago. Like my 775 parts, hopefully I don’t have to use it again but it’s there just in case. I used x58 for about 10 years. Don’t miss it!

I'm still having a lot of fun with my X58 + X5660 in 2020 and using it as my daily rig with no issues. I recently benchmarked my Fury X (5 years later + X58) and I thought the performance for both were decent. I'm working on another review as we speak with a more powerful GPU.

I am having zero problems for gaming, streaming and pretty much any task I throw at it. Of course the newer technology will be better since it's a 12 year old platform\1st gen, but the fact that it can still perform well today is truly saying something. 2020 might be the final year I'm on this platform, but I've been saying that since 2016\2017 so we will see :). With PCIe 2.0\2.1 and the fact that GPUs are becoming less compatible with the older tech, that might be enough to make some upgrade. Long live X58.

I also gave OP some tips on another forum. Good luck man

1. Did you follow the correct procedure before swapping cards:

a) Remove all old video drivers and related items
b) Run registry cleaner and remove all things nvidia.
c) Shut down and switch cards.
d) Install new card drivers

2. Temporarily set a fixed fan speed to rule out utility related issues

3. Tour PSU is fine, reduciung you electric bill by using a pSU with higher efficiency has 0 impact on anything but your power bill. If a PSU change produces a fix, rest assured it had nothing to with PSU efficiency. Bronze / Gold / Platinum is not an indicator of quality, all it says is how much power it draws from the wall.

Works fine, and I can game at 100fps+ on 1440p although my ddr3-1600 ram seems to hold me back in Warzone and probably to other games similar. I overclocked my ram to 2075mhz and the stuttering goes away but crashes eventually as mushkin silverline doesn't oc too well.

I assume formatting my hard drive with a fresh install of windows is about equal? The good news is that my psu seems fine, the issue was probably my ram oc. I will do some more gaming tonight with it back on stock 9-9-9-24 1600, hopefully it remains stable.

I know, it’s still good to game on. But there are other things where it can get its ass handed to it. Like in anything that uses avx, or opening a web page

I’ll put mine back together this weekend for the kids. I have a 970 for it, it’ll run @ stock clocks and slow ram and it will still be just fine, just like always. I was only fooling myself when I said it was going in a box.

In all seriousness though, I might knock it from time to time, but it’s the only computer that I have ever had that has lasted more than a couple of years. It is a beast, and 10 years later it’s still a performer. I got high clocks out of it too, lots of voltage make it happy.

True, but it is literally 12 years old so what do you expect from Intel's X58 :) . I do agree that the lack of Instructions does hurt it and I've spoken about this many years ago and recently. Still for pure gaming and regular computing functions that doesn't require AVX etc., it's still a solid PC.

When I wrote my X58 review many.....many years ago it was only 9% slower than Ivy-Sandy-Bridge in 2013-2015 in tons of test clock for clock. Not bad. I do know more games are starting to use the more up to date instructions as well which will definitely add more nails to the coffin, but the X58 keeps rising. The PCIe tech has definitely kept this build alive much longer than it should have been in addition to the 32nm Westmere's. Obviously if you need to upgrade AMD has some pretty good prices with their Hexa-Core+SMT.

Quit being insulting.
Quit bickering.
Stay on topic.
Help the OP... don't tell others what to post... if you don't like something or it is against the rules report it... do not stir the drama pot!

Oh, also, stop this reporting something, then going back to the thread and posting a retaliatory comment... that is going to start getting a warning and possible points.

Thank You and have a Good Day!
