I recently made a new pc build and just wanted to know is it possible to over tighten the stock cooler screws.

i tighten the screws until they stop turning and did not tighten them any more

I heard that the amd stock cooler has spring loaded screws and that they can’t be over tighten and once they are tight you can’t turn the screws anymore and they just stop turning once they are tight

If the screws are being stripped, you're overtightening it.

This, but don't go nuts with it. You're not mounting an engine or anything like that. Just turn it until it doesn't turn anymore without excessive force.

screws have limiters on them, so you can't overtighten them, just turn them until they stop.

You're perfectly fine you don't have to worry about overtightening the stock cooler must of them are new user proof.

If you go King Kong on them with a monster screwdriver, you can overtighten any screw. But some common sense needs to come into play here. I turn until the screw stops, then give it one more little tiny twist - maybe an 1/8th of a turn or less.

One good trick is to use the smallest screwdriver you have. I am not talking about the tip, that needs to fit correctly so you don't strip out the head - typically #2 Phillips. I am talking about the entire screwdriver. With a smaller driver, you use your fingertips to tighten, not your fisted hand. If you use a larger driver with a fisted hand gripping the handle, you can easily apply much more torque than required. That's when you get into trouble.

So turn until it stops, then one more little tiny twist.

Then, come back after 10 days - 2 weeks of use and make sure ALL the screws (and data and power connectors while in there) in your setup are still snug. If any worked themselves loose, then maybe two tiny little twists.

Yes I turn them until they stop and just to make sure I didn’t over tightened them I unscrew each screw and then turn them with one more turn until they stop

Thank you all for the reply

I can also confirm that it's kinda not possible until you use gorilla powers with two hands or something. You're good to go with that as it is. :)
