I will wait for the reviews first. Everything looks great on paper but nobody should trust marketing.

That's completely true I think rdna 2 will be really good as it has already been shown to match the 3080

I changed my mind. After the debacle of the 3000 series, I'm getting an Xbox Series X. 2080TI/3070 like perfomance, the whole package for just 500 bucks. I got a new 65 inch 4k120 tv with hdmi 2.1. My 1080TI will still be good to play most games at high quality. GPUs prices are way overblown.

I don't blame you. The GPU alone in those consoles is worth at least $500, not even counting the $250 PCIe 4.0 SSD.

No they aren't. Total rubbish that. The APU being used in the new XB & PS accounts for about $65(at most) of the cost and the SSD is an additional $65. Total cost of either of those systems is less than $370. But because of reseller marks and shipping costs, MS and Sony has to sell at a slight loss to meet their target MSRP. This is a tactic that has been in use since the 8bit generation of console gaming. Sell the hardware at a slight loss and make up the difference with software sales.

That is a foolish move for many reasons.

No, they aren't. RTX2080(non super) maybe.

Yeah, and pay 70+ for every game ;) So yeah you get cheap hardware to start with and then pay back much more for overpriced games over the lifespan of the console.

Not even close, the SoC itself is a couple of dozen dollars most likely, somewhere in the region of ~20$. You can check this on your own by the way, there are wafer-cost calculators out there.

lol, we are talking retail not BoM. If it performs as well as a $500 GPU, clearly the GPU in the console is worth $500 to a customer. I should not have to explain these things but this is the internet. Some people just like to nitpick. Please tell me where I can buy my GPU for the cost of the parts. Completely inane argument.

Completely agree.

No, YOU are talking about retail...

...and value VS what everyone else thinks about: cost.

You're missing the point and the context of your own argument. A console has limited functionality and scope of usefulness, that of gaming. A PC does not have such limitations. So where value is concerned, regardless of cost, a PC has greatly better value over a console. All. Day. Long.

No YOU made an ASSumption and an uncommon one at that. People do not think of the BoM when they think of computer parts, they think of retail price. I don't know a single person that talks about the BoM when they are comparing the price of two products. In fact in makes zero sense to compare the BoM. You pay retail, not BoM cost. Neither my comment nor the comment I replied to mentioned anything about the BoM. Any more replies about BoM pricing is clearly off topic as I've made my intent clear that I was not referring to BoM multiple times now.

This is a completely different argument for a completely different topic. The comment I replied to was solely commenting on gaming.

Mind you as a PC gamers the flexibility is nice but given the low price of the consoles I don't see how it isn't an appetizing option. You are arguing an absolutes here as if it is fact that PC is better value but you haven't provided any supporting evidence and you haven't even considered the possibility that the extra flexibility might be lost on many people.

You seem to be coming form the PC elitist angle while not considering that what's best for YOU is not best for everyone.

Hey, you brought it up. This thread is about a GPU for PC, not consoles.

I wound up landing a Gigabyte Vision 3090 last night as part of a NewEgg Combo deal with a 850W PSU... i was initially after the FE or STRIX, but like the aesthetics of this Vision card... ultimately learned that even the Gigabyte Eagle 3080 (essentially the same as the Vision aside from aesthetics/colors) has a better noise and thermal profile than the 3080 FE, so probably translates in comparison to the 3090 FE as well.

Should change the poll now that rdna 2 info is out or wait until nov 18 reviews come out and just put 3070,3080,3090,6800,6800xt,6900xt as the poll options. Either way this poll has been up for a long time.
