Need Video card Replacement suggestions

My old Video card went out and I need suggestions for a replacement. I don't want to build a whole new computer If I can avoid it.
As far as I know the motherboard is ok. Tried multiple ports and monitors on the video card, and nothing.

Must be able to display 3840 x 1080P Resolution, I'm currently using a Mini Display port, since that's the only port I know of that displays 3840 X 1080P

If you notice the Video card PCI express port is for a PCIe 2.0 x16 (dual x16 or x16/x8/x8)

So I apparently bought the wrong video card for this motherboard to begin with. It worked, just not to it's full potential.

Any help will be appreciated.

I'd say 1660 Super/Ti, or a 5500xt. Your CPU will be the limiting factor for performance.

I have had EVGA and MSI the most and both work just fine. Also I hope you mean 32 GIGs of ram

id wait till after all the new stuff drops , supposedly on 28th of this month ... even if buying stuff that's currenyly available , you will pay less for it in 2 weeks. As for brands ... EVGA has had a multitude of issues last few generations ...

9xx series ... on 970 SC series, 1/3 of the heat sink missed the GPU limiting OC ability
On 10xx series SC / FTW, they cheaped out skipping thermal pads resulting in users have to RAM cards or self install the missing thermal pads
On 20xx series, some lines used the non A version GPus which were not OCable

Looking at performance ... MSI was the only vendor tested by TPU to outperform the FE version with the 3080 ... for the 2xx series, in TPU testing

I agree for the most part.

But... if you plan on upgrading to a better CPU / Motherboard in the next year or so, maybe it'd be worth it to get a stronger GPU, like the 2060 Super. Just so that you can better recycle the GPU to your next build.

In the interest of providing actual true information to the OP, you only have half the story on the 20xx series. The non-A WERE and ARE overclockable by the end user.

The stipulation was that the AIB’s were not allowed to overclock the non-A’s, and IIRC this applied to all AIB’s, not just EVGA. All had to have one such non-overclocked model.

PCIe 3.0 is backwards compatible, and will work with PCIe 2.0 slots.

A bigger issue to worry about is the motherboard firmware, to be honest. Which may not necessarily boot with the newest GPUs.

My 1080FTW was fine, had all pads on stock cooler, but anyway, its under water now.

Nvidia this is the one retaining backwards compatibility with PCIe 2.0.
Therefore Nvidia products this is your own search area.

My own research ended, by selecting for my self ASUS GTX 1660 super mini OC
Compatibility with PCIe 2.0 this is one thing, compatibility in product dimensions this is a second, excellent cooling system this is a third, a card this not wasting power in watts this is a fourth challenge.

You will not find ASUS GTX 1660 super mini OC as popular within hardcore gamers and youth, but from plain technology innovation perspective, this is the card of the future, the product design of it this will keep it undamaged for decades ahead.
Drivers set this is very mature all ready, therefore there is no hidden risks in that area too.

An Adapter would easily solve that issue. I had that board and it is actually PCIe 3.0. For $300 US you should look at a RX 5700. You are coming from Tahiti a RX 580 or 5500XT would not feel any different. The 5600XT would also be a good choice to start at. If you can find a 5700 in that range it would also be good.

Just get the cheapest 1650 super and enjoy. Unfortunately they were supposed to be around $150 but these days they tend to get over-inflated to around $180.
Or you could see if you can find a Radeon 570 since those were getting really affordable around $100 but sadly I think those have dried up now.

Either of those cards will be considerably faster than the 7970 you had before, and probably be able to max whatever you're running in AM3.

I still have an old Radeon 290 in my FX8370 and @ 4.7Ghz it still does well in general gaming. And a 1650s is probably still about x2 faster than that so I'd think if there is a cpu bottleneck it'd start showing up past that.

I mean, wait another month and I can try some benchmarks for Cyberpunk 2077 on that FX 8370 for some laughs ;p

What input port are you using on your monitor? If I remember correctly, the only port on the 7970 that supported that resolution was the mini-DP. The other cards listed above have standard DisplayPort which is only different in size.

They all do, it's called pcie 3 x16 GPU, that works on any pcie 2 x 16 motherboard ...... ooooooo spooky but no, they are all backwards compatible just buy the best you can afford and an adaptor if needs be, you dont have to worry about pcie version etc
