i'm fresh into the pc gaming world and have almost completed a build that will be strictly for gaming and the occasional live stream. i've been reading and researching a decent amount on quality builds lately, but have yet to decide on a good set of ram to replace the ones i currently have from an older scrapped pc. i know i'll most likely be directed towards g.skill as it seems they have the quality i'm wanting, but any suggestions towards something solid that doesnt carry a crazy price tag would be dope. it's the last thing i need to buy to complete the build.

not gunna go into detail but the basic, current specs are as follows:

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
Radeon RX 5700XT
Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus (WiFi)

right now i have these guys 3000MHz CL15 (15-16-16) and am looking to either upgrade to a set of 3200 CL14 or 3600 CL16 kit. any and all recommendations are very much appreciated.

If you're not upto spending a heap of cash then go with the 3200MHz CL14 kit and use dram calc to OC it

what is your idea of a "heap" of cash? lmao. from what i've seen they both run around the same price range for a 2x8GB kit

I would prefer a 3600 CL16 kit
Preferably GSkill or TeamGroup.
With Corsair is more like a “hit and mis” situation.

Just check your board QVL list for memory compatibility.

3600MHz CL16-16-16-16-32/34/36 would be nice but probably too expensive.
CL16-18-18-18-36/38
CL16-19-19-19-38
...are more affordable.

Don’t twist your head too much for performance RAM. The gains in gaming are between 1~3% from the affordable to expensive.
Your first priority is to find a kit that will work out of the box. That’s the tricky part.
Then you can try to tweak it if you like.

Ah I see you're in retardistan so you have much better prices than here in Gougeland where going from 3200 to 3400 is double the price and then going upto 3600 is a little more than four times the price of 3200MHz 2x8 kit

word. i was mostly looking into grabbing a 3600cl16 (16-16-16-36) from the g.skill kits. seems to be the most optimal to run for my setup and is on my motherboard's QVL list. specifically these guys.

yikes. here in unintellectualand i can grab either a 3200cl14 kit or a 3600cl16 kit for exactly the same price. sounds like robbery on your end my guy

i have not. i'm am majorly fresh into all of this, but i have been reading up on how to do so. looking into the dram calculator and am going to attempt in just a bit. found a nice deal on a new kit from g.skill that i just ordered. so i'm hyped to be getting those in soon.

snagged these for under $100

Good score they cost $399NZD here in Gougeland (aka New Zealand)

Wait why are you doing this? If your ram is working it's almost certainly a waste of money. Try overclocking your current set.

Like the OP said, he's upgrading, and as a few posts have mentioned previously AMD don't play nice with some Ram, including odd numbered Cas latency.

i could be wrong here, but i'm not sure a sub-$100 ticket on a brand new 3600 (16-16-16-36) b-die kit is a waste? i have literally zero experience overclocking memory other than activating the xmp profile lmao. i've been reading up and will be trying to do so with my current set. it's a micron e-die 3000cl15 set from crucial that probably has decent oc potential. idk yet but we'll see.

It's hardly an upgrade and you'll notice 0 difference besides a few percentage points in benchmarks, though its your mullah so, I guess enjoy the "upgrade"

thanks bud.
it's hardly a waste if the old sticks are going into a mini-itx b550 that i'm using in a separate build entirely... just swapping out old hardware into a new case for a separate editing rig. i've got hardware just sitting around that i'm putting to use. can't hurt to drop a bit of cash on some nice memory for my main setup. you kids gotta relax lmao.

I didnt say waste, I said it wasn't really an upgrade, though now you've said you have a b550 to drop the other RAM into then, yea, why not, and thanks for the kids comment, it's been a long time since anyone called me a kid, if only it were true

haha i'll reel it back in a bit. seems in posting for advice i baited myself. i've been suffering from an inferiority complex as a console gamer up until now lmao. finally started taking this whole pc rig shit seriously.

I think PC gamers have an inferiority complex with themselves, new hardware is released on 6-12 month cycles that makes your shiny new stuff, old and last gen, the upgrade itch is always real  I'm dreading the performance of RDNA2/Big Navi considering I bought a 5600 xt for £270 only a month and a half ago, and I still need to kick out this "old" Ryzen 1600AF CPU for a newer one, then I need NVME storage, etc etc it never ends :laugh:

lmfao yeah i've definitely noticed that and i'm already hard pressed with the amount i've thrown around just buying a few different pieces of hardware knowing a lot of major releases are happening in the last quarter of this year. oh well. either way it beats the hell out of playing on a playstation lmao. btw... i read into it long enough to successfully overclock the current sticks i have installed. i didnt do anything crazy yet, but i did tighten the timings to get them to cl14-14-15-30. now just gunna try to optimize and raise the frequency levels.
