Like the title which one do you think is a better choice to choose from and why? I noticed a few differences
Acer vg242yp -Made in 2020 -Oc 165hz -2 hdmi 2.0 -Minimum response time 1ms
Asus vg249q -Made in 2019 -144hz -1 hdmi 1.4, 1 vga -minimum response time 4ms
They both have speakers 2x2w related to official website of each one. I have a monitor arm for desk so the standing won't be an issue, I am interested only in terms of features and picture quality .
Now when it came down to features(picture attached) that they use I am a little bit in a trouble, I don't know what each thing does and I ask you if you know, which will be a good idea to get even if they are the same price. Comparable the brands also I don't know about so if you know leave a comment, I am waiting to hear from you :D

VG249Q uses the panel reviewed here. VG242YP is fairly new and no deep detail exist. But the spec makes me believe it also uses the same panel. Because 2019 version of that model, VG240YP used the same panda panel.

I wouldn't worry about the "features" listed on your image. Just check what's cheaper and/or which one has better warranty in your country.

TL;DR buy any one

vg242yp which is named as nitro vg2 has also HDR400 and the 2019 model nitro vg1 has 3 models( vg271p, vg271u, vg271us) only 27 inch models, but in 2020 they released 23.8 and 27 inch displays for nitro vg2.
The price in my country for Asus vg249q is 5$ cheaper than Acer vg242yp. Which one will you get?

I'm biased but I'd take ASUS. HDR400 is garbage and borderline gimmick. Doesn't matter at all.

Like I said it's too new to get detailed information atm. While VG249Q uses a known panel that has been reviewed. Check the link on my first reply.

I am coming with new information about these panels. I ve bought both monitors and 1 i should return.
Watch what i saw :

Acer vg242yp & Asus vg249q

Acer
-pro
Has 165hz refresh rate,
More options in osd menu also brightness to 350/400 nits,
Has 2*hdmi 2.0, 1dp.1.4,
The speakers are way louder than asus vg249q,
Has hdr 400 which if you ask me is useless,
came with hdmi + dp cable.

-cons
Has a cheaper look,
Cheap stand,
The display is hot to the touch, less on the asus,
Has a blue filter on that can't disappear, "washed out view"(I think is about deltaE), the blue filter from osd is not active,
It is classified as B class in energy,
The acer cost 5$ more.

Asus
-pro
Has a great solid stand,
Looks premium,
Has 1vga, 1hdmi 1.4, 1dp 1.2,
The colors are better in a comparison 1 to 1 with all my changes in Acer osd, seems like asus has a yellow filter that give more colors to objects or smth,
Can be adjusted with the stand in multiple ways,
Classified A class in energy.

-cons
Came only with dp cable,
Sound is not so loud,
Less options in osd than for acer.

Which one you choose ?

165 vs 144hz is negligible difference.

If you want to actually game on the monitor, DP is better since it has more bandwidth.

Speaker quality is your choice. For me personally it don't matter.

Blue tint vs yellow tint is also your personal choice. See if you can temper around the color temperature setting to change it.

But most important is overdrive setting.
Overdrive is basically a setting where the monitor feeds extra voltage to the panel to quicken pixel transition. Without it even TN panels are slow. For example at 60hz, pixel transition has to be under (1000ms ÷ 60) 16.66ms to NOT get blurry image called ghosting. And for 144hz it's (1000ms ÷ 144) 6.94ms.

But there's also detriment of being too fast. If the overdrive is too aggressive, a phenomena happens that is called inverse ghosting.

Monitors have multiple overdrive settings. Usually highest settings are just for show or rather to comply with 1ms response time advertising. Suffice to say there's too much inverse ghosting.

A quality monitor e.g. LG 27GL850 will have medium/balanced overdrive setting that is not too slow nor too fast for the whole 60hz to 144hz range. A mediocre monitor e.g. ASUS VG27AQ will have high overdrive that is suitable for 120-144hz+ range while it's too fast for lower fps (100hz and lower). Of course you can remedy it by choosing low overdrive that is suitable for low fps/hz range.

The reason I had to write this essay is that in a previous Acer review (iirc Acer VG271P) Tim from HWUB noted that Acer locked the overdrive setting when Freesync/G-sync was enabled.
Turn on G-sync/Freesync from your driver, turn it on the monitor and check if the overdrive setting is greyed out/locked.

Check on the ASUS monitor too. If it's not called Overdrive, it's most probably called Trace Free. ASUS likes to be 'unique' like some spoiled child.

For acer vg242yp is grayed out but overdrive is extreme(grayed out). I have set extreme before and then enable the freesync from osd. Now freesync is on and grayed out overdrive but is writing (extreme in gray).
For asus vg249q trace free can be 100 with freesync on. But ELMB(extreme low motion blur) cannot be active while freesync is on.
I have attached some photos(3 from asus, 1 from acer)

For Acer, set Over Drive anything lower than Extreme when Freesync is off. And when you turn Freesync on check if it retains the OD setting.
Like I said, highest OD setting is usually unusable because of inverse ghosting. Inverse ghosting usually looks like purple/blue/yellow ghosting.

ELMB on ASUS and VRB on Acer are motion blur reduction settings.
Because of how LCD technology works there's some inherent motion blur. To put simply LCD technology changes frames (pictures) top to bottom like a wave. While a more analog tech e.g. CRT changes frames by blinking and replacing the next frame. This is the reason some people claim CRT is less blurry than LCD tech.

Fortunately same principle can be applied to LCD displays. This is called strobe backlit technique. Commercial names include BFI (Black Frame Insertion), MBR (Motion Blur Reduction), 1ms MPRT (this one is confusing and encroaches with another setting), DyAc (Dyanmic Accuracy) and the aforementioned Trace Free and VRB.

Because of how Freesync/G-sync work, you can't turn them and MBR setting at the same time. Only exception are some ASUS monitors which have ELMB-sync feature. But those are rife with issues last I checked. e.g. VG27AQ.

Check another thing. See if you can change brightness when ELMB/VRB is turned on. Usually MBR makes the picture darkened. You can remedy this by increasing brightness. But if they lock/grey out brightness... sadge.

So first of all I set the overdrive at normal, then freesync on and it retained normal mode. After this I set freesync off, overdrive extreme and it didn't retain extreme, but normal.
Acer has some (8) presets and I saw in some, freesync is on and extreme is grayed out and in some freesync on and normal is grayed out.
In Asus osd, when ELMB is on brightness is grayed out like you said.
In Acer osd, when VRB is on brightness is not grayed out but if you change it, VRB mode will be turned off automatically.
You have any idea how to test the response time to these panels?

This is acer with freesync on

Also I can set for acer 12 bit depth while for asus only 8 bit depth.

Those are color settings. Check the Bulb or the Rainbow box tab and set color profile Custom or User on ASUS osd. Should be available after that.

Unless the osd changes Overdrive setting you set before turning on Freesync all's good.
Acer has some (8) presets and I saw in some, freesync is on and extreme is grayed out and in some freesync on and normal is grayed out.
Those are overall profiles methinks. Select Custom or User that unlocks all the settings.
In Asus osd, when ELMB is on brightness is grayed out like you said.
In Acer osd, when VRB is on brightness is not grayed out but if you change it, VRB mode will be turned off automatically.
Play some games and check how dark it becomes. As previously, increase brightness beforehand and check if turning ELMB/VRB makes the game unusably dark.
You have any idea how to test the response time to these panels?
I think you need special equipment for that tbh
Which one will you take ? Xd
Personally I'm leaning towards Acer now tbh. 12-bit color, no backlight bleed on that unit, 165hz. And although HDR400 is gimmick, having it certified at least means that the monitor can do 400 nit brightness on average. Might help when using VRB unless the osd is locks brightness at arbitary value.

If you do keep the Acer one, check sRGB option.

Because most programs in Windows use sRGB color and if you don't you'll have oversaturated colors. Check also if turning it on locks anything else (usually brightness and/or color).

If ASUS doesn't have an option for sRGB, it probably means it's sRGB only. So don't worry about that.

I mean 6 axis saturate, 6 axis hue and rgb gain and rgb bias and gamma change (1.8, 2.2, 2.4)

In asus OSD the presets cannot be changed. You wont have a "user mode" but you can pick a preset and change that. That will be kept but you cannot save it in a new preset.
Play some games and check how dark it becomes. As previously, increase brightness beforehand and check if turning ELMB/VRB makes the game unusably dark.
I activated VRB to extreme mode, it does not make games unplayable but it became too dark than ELMB to turbo on Asus. Also what i noticed is that Acer does not gray out all the features if i turn on VBR, brightness is still changeable but if you change it, VRB automatically is turned off and for ELMB on Asus, they grey out the brightness or if you activate smth else, the other options are grayed out. For Acer only a few will become grey.

What do you think about "washed out" images on the acer? The blue tint does that, but on the Asus the yellow-orange-red tint xd brings more color to the images.

Because most programs in Windows use sRGB color and if you don't you'll have oversaturated colors. Check also if turning it on locks anything else (usually brightness and/or color).

If ASUS doesn't have an option for sRGB, it probably means it's sRGB only. So don't worry about that.
Well Asus doesn't because it has only sRGB, Acer is advertised being HDR 400( which is less than HDR 10 and seems nothing happens to images) + sRGB.
I did not noticed any difference with sRGB on or off.

That's what I was asking about. From what I hear this doesn't happen on Acer's Predator lineup of monitor. So it's most probably product segmentation between cheaper Nitro and expensive Predator.
Now you have to find out if Normal overdrive is good for your use case or not.
I activated VRB to extreme mode, it does not make games unplayable but it became too dark than ELMB to turbo on Asus. Locking out out other settings and reverting VRB when other settings are changed is kinda the same result you know. Check if you can remedy it by increasing broghtness beforehand you turn on ELMB/VRB.

Do the color profile not change it? In my case (el cheapo LG 22MP68VQ) game mode is cold (bluish tint) while cinema mode is warm (yellow tint). But in custom I can choose between 3 color temp: Gamma0, Gamma1, Gamma2 that are warm to cold.

Well Asus doesn't because it has only sRGB, Acer is advertised being HDR 400( which is less than HDR 10 and seems nothing happens to images) + sRGB.
I did not noticed any difference with sRGB on or off.
HDR400 isn't color gamut profile actually. Usual are DCI-P3 and AdobeRGB that are best used fpr color-critical work. But most games, websites, youtube still use sRGB. AdobeRGB, DCI-P3 cover more than 100% of sRGB color. So if you show sRGB content on wide color gamut display you'll get too much color or false representation of color. That's why having sRGB mode to clamp on extra color is important.
