Ok, well it's payday next week, so "hopefully" it's upgrade time....

Now I've decided to go C2D, and as such will be grabbing an E6750 and an Abit P35 board (either Pro or normal, depending on my budget)

Now, I'm having problems choosing my memory.

It's either a set of Crucial Ballistix, in either PC6400, or PC8500 flavour (£84 and £100 respectively, both CL5)

Or a set of PC6400 Reapers CL4 which are £79.

I'm looking for really good overclocking memory, and I know that Crucial uses the D9s which are meant to be really good, but is it worth the extra money?

I have no window in my case (yet) and I'm not paying £40 extra for LEDs :p

I seriously want to know if the Reapers will stand anywhere near the Ballistix....

I'm in the UK d44ve. I know where to get the memory for cheap, I just want to know if it's any good.

If it's comparable to the Ballistix, then I'm not going to spend the extra money, but if the Ballistix is better memory and OCs better, then I will pay the extra.

Another vote for the Crucial here. I can get 1072MHz 4-4-4-12 @ 2.4v, and I've had them up to 1200MHz CAS5 as well. Currently running them @ 1000 4-4-4-12.

Ah, I read your post wrong... I was reading USD and not £

Go for the Ballistix... they are pretty much the best out there right now

Ok, so now, should I spend the extra money and go for the 8500 set, or just get a 6400 set and OC the crap out of em?....would they even reach the same level as the 8500 set would with OCing?

That price seems a bit too high. I ALWAYS buy my ram from eBay and especially Quality Rams store.

Here, go grab them. They are 2*1GB kits

The HZs, Reapers, and Ballistix are all great RAM.

However, I would say to go with HZs or Reapers instead since I have heard many problems with Crucial RAM that needs RMAing.

I haven't heard that. Got a link? There are dozens of satisfied Ballistix owners in these forums, as well as G.Skill owners. Haven't heard too much about the Reapers, so I can't comment on them, but they do seem pretty nice.

Well not really a whole thread of complainers but I usually hear "I'm RMAing my RAM" more from Crucial owners than most others.

I'm the opposite. I usually hear it from G.Skill owners, but either way, our methods aren't exactly scientific. It could be just that we notice one or the other more. Speculation at best, on both of our parts.

True :)

However, all three companies have top-notch customer support (also from speculation :) ). So if you ever do need to RMA something i'm sure you'll get a replacement fairly quickly.

Thankfully, I haven't had to test that theory yet. lol. Once I actually put my rig back in it's case (It's on top of my desk, on top of my mobo box. lol.), I might have to try Crucial's service out, as I plan to go to 2.4v for 24/7. lol

Anyway, I found a few links.

Heres one of a few people having problem with Crucial RAM:

However, heres one showing their good support :)

Last time I bought computer parts from eBay I got screwed. If I buy parts, I buy them from retailers BRAND NEW. I'm not taking the risk, EVER, no matter how cheap.

But looks I'm getting either PC8000 or 8500 Ballistix :)

Although depending on what my budget turns out to be I may go with the Reapers...read some good reviews on em.

These ARE BRAND NEW. I bought before from this guy 11 times. I haven't been screwed once. But if you want to pay more then no problem with me:p
