I woke up and it was gone. I move the mouse, but it doesn't get out of sleep.
I reset the computer, and still no signal........
I changed the port to the Intel HD graphics and it worked right way.


Anyway, I was perfectly OK with the performance it had.... Is there anything cheap that I can replace it with that sells today and has the same performance?
I am also OK with used cards with around the same power, if you can direct me at some ebay searches.

RX570 is much more powerful than any 7950 for sure. 7950 boost was succeeded by 280 and RX570 is competent to 290 which was clearly faster than 280.

The truth about the 7950 regardless of benchmarks is most times that there were driver updates that you would see a small performance increase. I am not saying that in benchmarks but in everyday use and even in Gaming you will be hard pressed to be impressed with a Polaris card. The first real card that made me feel ok this is much better than my 7950 was the Vega 64. I also am proposing that card because it is the only card that you can buy locally for under $200 anywhere from what I have seen.

Guys, I see 280's for 100 dollars and the 570 for 220$, both used.

Will the 280 do for casual once a week Diablo type game or do you recommend the 570 minimum, coming from 7950.
A used 7950 is also around 100-120$.

I had a 7970 and 770 and the 1060 6GB was a big jump forward, the 1060 and 980 are equivalent.

If 570 is 8GB, get the 570. If the 570 is 4GB, get the 980. 980 is faster than the 570 by a small amount but the 980 is only 4GB, which will hold you back in today's games.

i agree with this.
the 980 is good, but has less Vram. if the 570 is 4Gb go with the 980, if its more than 4Gb, go with the 570

Lasted quite long for such a card... Interestingly enough, I once also had a "7950" that also lasted exactly 9 years in one of my computers (2006 - 2015) before it started to artifact. I've been meaning to try and "bake" it for the LOLz, but haven't come around to it yet.
And regarding a replacement - yeah, a 980 for 170$ is kinda a shitty deal for a 6+ years old card, but it still beats a 570 for 200+ by miles and is likely as good of a deal as you're going to get for at least another couple of months (or years if things really take a turn for the worse...)

If money is tight, then just bake the card.

Remove everything you can on the pcb, put it on a biscuit sheet, silicon chip dide up and on four small standoffs (small aluminium foil balls is what i use). Leave 10 minutes in a 375 °F pre-heated oven. Let it cool to room temp before trying to touch.

This procedure managed to bring 7 out of 11 dead r9 290 back to life when i got a deal on that lot a few years ago. Might be worth a shot if you are at ease with the card's dismantling...

The only thing you will find decent for the money that is worth is to me is the RX570. The 1660 is a nice card but overpriced just like anything else that is new.

I have a XFX HD7950 with the lifetime warranty. It's been demoted to test bench use but still looks and functions like new. My other 7950's went to Ebay after their warranties expired. All things considered they're great cards for their price range at the time. R.I.P.

Them being great cards for the price...depends when; certainly not at the very beginning when they had an official price of 449$, but were selling closer to 500. After they got beaten bloody by the cheaper gtx 670 and AMD had to discount them though...maybe, depends on the deal one managed to get.
Regarding that lifetime warranty though - I've always wondered what one would get in return if one such card was to fail so long after purchase? 570, 5500? Or would they find some (trumped up) reason not to honor it at all?

feel free to find a 1660 (non super, non ti) for less than 500 bucks..

a 980 for 250 dollars would be a "Quite okay" deal if you think about a 3070 that costs like 1600.

Have you tested all the output ports? Have you tried removing the card and re-seating it in the slot? Have you tried other PCIe slots? What is your power supply?

The HD7950 is still capable of casual gaming. I have two HD7970 cards in use, and it can still hold its own in many titles. Finding an equally competent card on the cheap today may be difficult, though "cheap" is relative. It all boils down to local pricing.

Do you know what year this graph is from? Performance will vary between specific games. For instance, in SOTTR the HD7970 is beating the 1050Ti by 50% (despite having 1 GB less memory).
