I was saying to a few friends.... Its probably the same group that did the CDPR hack a few months ago and stole the source code for Cyberpunk2077

I hope hackers use the stolen source codes to dig up the manipulative systems with their gambling sport, micro transaction games and break apart how rigged those systems are

most likely purchased by agents of tencent. but i heard even the people who purchased the code at auction ended up selling it again anyway (which was supposedly against the auction rules but money had already changed hands etc etc)

I really don't understand why it is a big deal if people have source codes of games. Like seriously, who has time to look through all that code? I much rather prefer sleeping or reading a good book. But hey, to each their own, life is short though so yeah... spend that limited time wisely.

Source codes are like key to in engine development tools, once you have that, you can make your own DLC for the game if you want lol

Because source codes are unique in in their creation and certain areas/parts might have mechanics (possibly even patented game mechanics) and other things that they dont want competitors to see as they are pretty much the blueprints for their success - its what makes their game 'their game'

If blueprints for the F-22 were stolen and all of a sudden foreign made F-22s or copycat F-22s started popping up -- sleeping or reading a good book wont stop or solve any of this. An F-22 is an example but this could relate to all electrical devices/components AMD or intel with their CPU blueprints for example. If either one of these companies gets hold of each others information. They can send it to their chief engineers to study and dissect those blueprints to find out what makes their competitors tick and use that information to their advantage. I dont need to tell you about the hundreds of patent disputes that have come and gone within the PC industry.... source code is no different

Every developer/publisher wants to protect their intellectual property from copycats. Because if you create something unique then the last thing you want to see is big companies like tencent and other random developers releasing knock offs of your game and profiting off the work you or your studio did.

Before CP2077 was even released tencent was already working on a copycat...

Though its debatable if tencent would have made a better game than CDPR with the CP2077 source code :laugh::laugh:

If the code is worth millions of dollars --- People will read it. Because even if they dont use the code in their own games. reading through and dissecting it can provide vital information on how to do things more quickly or efficiently etc etc

No average joe would read it. Because no average joe can understand code. Maybe the hackers who stole the code might understand a small part of it but it means nothing to them as they arent in the business of making games. Hence them auctioning/selling off the the stolen code. If the hackers didnt contact tencent. Im sure tencent would have found a way to contact them. tencent could well have the stolen CP2077 code nobody knows

Also no average joe would read it because no average joe would be able to afford the auction price for the source code. Average joe wont get a look in unless it was intentionally leaked on the internet for everyone to see.

I see, I don't really know much about code. I just figured anyone who knows a few programming languages would be able to read it. I hate coding personally. It hurts my eyes. I don't know why, but if I stare at text on a screen for too long, it creates a double image in my vision for awhile. Especially dark backgrounders. White background and black text helps some, but not 100%. For example, when I read the Ars Technica website on my phone, its a black background, if I read an article for too long, I will look away, blink several times and still see black lines in my vision...

I hope scientists figure out a way to give people new eyes someday, cause mine suck.

Is it safe to go online with these games? ie multiplayer mode. .. Is it easier to intercept hack your computer while playing online if they have the source code..

to be honest i am by far no expert but i'm pretty sure having the code isn't everything. i use plenty of open source software off github and what not w/o hesitation. the deal is if they find an exploit in the code.

and then, is it worth hacking you? seems to me they (the "nefarious agents") would get more from sharing the game dev's "secrets" then running around getting chump change off of suckers. (present company excluded)

*sigh* long gone are they days when hackers only cared about hacking . .those were fun, anything could happen :D

I only care if it has modding potential for a title I care about.

And all the titles I care about already have modding support for the most part, so...

if humans don't figure out how to stop their short term greed and see the bigger picture, there is going to be nothing left for anyone, not even the billionaires within 50 years. probably sooner... southern Orgeon has gone bone dry on water... so many people on the west coast and so little rain... its a recipe for disaster. not sure if humans are just blind or what.

even driving my Dad to work this morning... all the cars, my dad's car, the semi's... the highway, non-stop 24/7... it never stops... I honestly think we have no freakin idea what we are doing to the Earth. it's really sad how smart we are, but also how blinded. it really is like elon musk described, our limbic system is simply too powerful, and the cortex doesn't win enough battles (or something like that anyway)
