What would you pay for an artisan keycap? What even IS an artisan keycap? Join us as we explore this with Jelly Key and two of its unique custom designs: an 8-bit world that will bring back lots of gaming memories and a Zen pond filled with koi fish swimming amidst aquatic fauna.

After spending a hefty bit to customize a mechanical keyboard the way I like...

Sure, I'd spend on an artisan keycap if it was related to my interests. At this point, it'd just be the last bit of personalization one can do to a semi-custom keyboard short of paying a pro to paint or hydro-dip the keyboard's case.

The next frontier to select artisan keycaps really, are full artisan key sets, where your keyboard is basically a miniature world stretching from the tilde key to the NumPad Enter. I could see companies paying for limited edition artisan keysets; Blizzard doing an Alliance vs Horde set, Alliance on the left, Horde on the right, and tiny miniatures clashing in the center. Limit the special boards w/ artisan sets to say, 20 as prizes. No one set the exact same; featuring different characters and equipment on both sides fighting across the keys.

Depends really.

Looking at Jelly Key's pricing of the 4 keycap set (Cities in Ruins @ 199~), 6 keycap set (Birth of Forests @ 322~), and 12 keycap set (Zen III Koi @ 750~), those prices would be reasonable for the time involved for a hand-made, hand-painted, and custom product expected to last as long as a keyboard, if not longer. Basically, I'd pay those costs if they were for a theme I really, really liked.

Thanks for your feedback. I can pass it on to vendors, but I think currently custom keycap sets are easier to scale up when using plastic and molds. It is would be a good idea to build an artisan series like this over time though!

These are so awesome, pricey - but amazing. Didn't even know they existed. Thank you for the review and the enlightened awareness. :)

Maybe if I just bought one, it would be ok. lol

I like this one below because its Topre and fits the TOP row of my keyboard, and it's way cool looking.

It's also backlit, but what? How do I get it to light up? That's puzzling.:p

Before reading the review and checking their site and selection - who in their right mind wants this and is willing to buy these hefty prices?
After reading the review and checking the site - yeah, my keyboard could use a button like that or a few...

Heh, never expected this here. But yea, why not.

Thought about buying some.. just never got enough "excess" money. Still grats to anyone who has. Those are really beautiful masterpieces.

Depending on the rarity, I've seen several keycaps in the $150-200 range on Reddit's mechmarket. The most I have paid for one is $90 and that is pushing it for me. Probably won't do that again anytime soon but I do have a couple of Jelly key GB's that I joined in 2019. I have Zen Pond II space bar in green and a Dragon of Eden key in red. Both are SA profile so keep that in mind when joining group buys. You dont want 1 or 2 keys of a different profile or they will stand out like a sore thumb, lol. Currently I am rocking a GMMK Pro with black on white keycaps, lubed and filmed gateron black ink switches with a polycarbonate plate. Once you jump in though, it is very easy to go deep down the rabbit hole...

the looks is pretty good but since it is manual made the price is way up high
but mechanical keyboards and keycaps is style where you can find someone who can spend $$$ for a keyboard that tagged like mid range laptop
