Intel's Beast Canyon NUC Appears in Retail With a Steep Price Tag

We've already covered the Intel Beast Canyon NUC in quite some detail over the past few months and it's finally available to buy, that is if you have more money than sense, as the starting price on Amazon for the barebone version is no less than US$1,769.95. For this, you get an Intel Core i9-11900KB CPU, a 650 W 80+ Gold PSU and of course the chassis itself. We did find it for slightly less elsewhere online, but even at that US$1,599 price point, it seems like a pretty bad deal to us.

Amazon is also offering a range of customization options, starting at US$1,839.95, which includes 16 GB of unspecified DDR4 RAM and a 250 GB Samsung 980 SSD. The maxed out configuration, which doesn't come with a dedicated GPU, tops out at US$3,139.95 with 64 GB of RAM and a pair of 2 TB Samsung 980 Pro SSDs. These prices do include Windows 10 Pro pre-installed and configured. Not sure about you, but this looks like a terrible deal to us.

200 for case, 100 for PSU, 200 for motherboard and 5800X is the comparable-ish CPU at 400 plus maybe 100 for cooling and whatnot. Total of 1000.

For this sort of money one can build a high end rig which includes standard itx mobo , high end processor , 32GB ram , 1 TB ssd , high end gpu , watercooling and a nice case ( M1 , A4 , NR200 , Meshilicious , Steck .... you name it ) .

I mean i get some peoples don't know / want to learn how to build a PC but this being a barebone kit means that you will have to fiddle with it anyways at which point you might aswell do the build yourself for either cheaper or for the same price with better components so yeah ...

The 11900KB is a 65W chip, so while its PL2 is no doubt insanely high for this type of cooler, it's likely to exit tau quickly and stay at relatively sane noise levels.

Agreed - in essence this is a better binned, badly cooled 11700. Maybe the noise levels won't be terrible, but the performance won't be anywhere near that price tag.

Edit: It does have 24MB of cache, so that's actually worth something at least.

I wish AMD would work with some board partners and do a better version of this at a price that makes sense because there are some interesting ideas here and breaking away from ATX form factors opens up systems to take on some new shapes and cooling concepts but even the ideas in this thing are poorly executed. It would still be a fail even if the price wasn't insane.

Whats there to lol about .... even nowadays you can get a 3080 for 900$ which leaves you with 870$ for the rest of the build and this is knowing that we are talking here about the entry price of the NUC with just the case cpu/mobo and PSU meaning ram , ssd and gpu are not factored in the price of the NUC ....

It's already been tested it's actually a 12k series laptop part with increased power limits. It outperforms the desktop 11900k

I'm interested in getting one of the compute elements not the whole hog and nowhere near those prices considering a $999-1200 gets 100% of what that is offering and everything that isn't included. Word was that they're supposed to to priced around 1100 for the i7 and 1300 for the i9 but guess that ain't happening
