I ran across this Jays2cents video today, I thought it was the original video on the EVGA cards getting bricked.

I liked the bit where he said that video games cant hurt cards....

Its fairly safe to say this is not new worlds falt
this is new world using gpus in a specfic way thats revealing issues in certain gpus
if it was new worlds fault the problem would be more widespread

It makes me question my purchase of a 30 series card. I haven’t watched the full video yet though. I thought because mine was new it would have no problems like every other card I owned. Except my XFX GTX295.. one side died. Yay warranty lol.. But because of this and the shortage my gpu is at stock clocks all around. The slider only gives me 5% so it’s not very generous..

I was about to ask if anyone got to the reason why this is actually happening, and not just tell us that it’s happening, and i opened YT to find jayz video and few minutes later buildzoid’s video

buildzoid probing shows possible vcore vrm damage ( he didn’t go further to actually test the mosfets separately)

Evga thinks it’s bad soldering on the mosfets , thin solder joints probably melting or breaking due to high current under loads .

I think it’s poor load balancing , one phase carries most of the load while another phase is basically idle or not helping enough

actually its not safe to say. This is not the first game something like this has happen with. as Jay said point to each other saying its their fault is pointless and resolves nothing.

It’s happening in high power gpus, while I agree that it’s exposing low engineering quality , they are part of the problem, there is something called software optimization, you don’t code a game and launch it while it’s exhausting resources, you have to optimize it for the hardware you’re targeting, had they tested and optimized their game on these cards , these things wouldn’t happen .

a game is a product after all , a product that wrecks hardware already rare to find , and you actually buy the game with your money, I can’t imagine how people who lost their expensive high end cards feel rn

I did learn one thing thru all this, most games do limit FPS. Doing that and lowering power to 90% when buying a new game might be a good way to set limits in game settings. Until you are confident the game wont implode your card.

I watched this video when it hit, its indeed weird... its only very specific high end cards too, so I sort of agree with Amazon its bad design on some cards... like there are other 3090's that have no issue with the game at all, but very specific models with different power models do have issues with it. I really don't know who is in the right or wrong here, but the be honest since this is literally the only game doing it to ANY gpu... I'd say... umm yeah prob the games fault at end of day. the common user should not be forced to limit fps and lower power draw. that is not the job of the end user!!!

It’s an unfinished immature product imo , they are patching the game already one update out , they could have used some more testing and optimization before releasing this garbage to the public

gpu oems have something to learn here , tighten the QC , luckily Evga is replacing all the cards so they’re doing their part and acknowledging the problem

I disagree, since only the end user can change those settings. Although, games can detect what card its being played on and show/enable certain settings, there are limitations. How big do you think the download size can bloat to for a game if that game had to create a database for every brand, iteration, make and model of every card that can potentially run on? This is why end users (gamers) get a general selection of settings to work with. Games dont have a database of every overclock a card has either.

After learning by this whole thing, I'll never start playing a brand new game without doing some limiting. If it saves my card from RMA, or the dumpster, I'm all for it.

this is the only game that does this though, and not every computer user is as savvy as you and I... it simply can not be expected of the end user who just installs steam, installs new world, and doesn't even bugger with anything else on their pc. there are a lot of people like that in the world.

I think the summary can be
The game has problems in how its utizling the cards
but this is revealing a much deeper problem in the drivers/cards by the fact tis not limiting the game from doing this

I cap my FPS at 60 for games, so no need to clock it anyways.. its just a bad habit like "insert your favorite hard drug here" but not ciggys.

My CPU is overclocked, but everything else is at stock. That is crazy to me. Every component that passes through my hands is overclocked. My Z77 system upstairs is just before its ragged edge..

At least with Fermi, you could overvolt it and run the shit out of it for its entire life.. like I did with mine. I kind of want to test my luck, but I think I will pass on this one. Its just kinda weird to me that they named it Ampere.. it can draw hella jo0s make no mistake, but it cant sustain it? That's boost life for you.. the engineers got soft and forgot what full power was like. Noobs. I should redesign it in paint for them lol..

Jay touched on that during one of the videos. Its why you see posts on TPU to not use furmark at all.

I used to swear by furmark. Until I saw my GTX 980 loaded with it and my 3770K running Linpack pulling 700w at the wall. Insane. I did have the GPU in LN2 mode though I think.. full power!

Based on BZ probing and OCN throttling analysis, it boils down to that. It's not too hard to understand, but being your last paragraph, most people skipped it.

Either by hardware circuitry or firmware management, the balancing is improper and stresses one or a few phases beyond the spec and Poof. Relax people, even Furmark wasn't responsible for frying GPUs in the past. Because the driver/firmware/hardware actually fixed it. After all Furmark is just calling a driver API, much like New World and software in general.

I'm confident this is New World's fault In fact EVGA should send me a new RTX GPU because New World is about to kill my GTX 980 once I play it. It's fine EVGA you don't have to Amazon can instead either way I want a upgrade for playing New World.
