Scythe looks to reap the competition with the Mugen 5 Black Edition. Its asymmetrical design is a major focal point, while the all-black aesthetic is visually appealing. Add the more powerful fan and you have what appears to be a truly upgraded Mugen 5 Rev.B.

I don't have any issues with the mounting system unless you don't have the long screwdriver. The backplate usually don't fall off that easily in my opinion, and you mount it perpendicular or do you? Anyway, I like the variety in the cooler tests! I would like to mention anyway that the non Black Version does perform better according to Igor.

I see this is $15-$20 more expensive than it should be.

At $40-$45 it would be a great value option, even next to other greats around this price range.

I have the Mugen 5 TUF (the one with the Impetial Inquisition symbol stacked on top) and I think I remember paying a fair bit less than $60 for it. Guess that inflation has really hit. Thanks, Biden...

Lovely cooler, splendid performance for something of that size.

It's built like a $60 cooler with six heatpipes and setback but it performs like most of the $40 coolers.

I stopped buying Scythe coolers because their fans all failed fast. Terrible sleeve-bearing junk that failed even where other sleeve-bearing junk from coolermaster, foxconn, akasa maneged just fine for far longer. When you build 48 identical render nodes with Scythe coolers and all of them need fan replacements long before the case fans give up, something's not right.

Yeah, like your planning.

If you are going for the heatsink, don't use it with its default fan. There are great options. Since it is the active component, the fan should actually take an equal inquiry to form a decision. Just advection alone is not quite sufficient in the cooler unit's performance. Without enough forced convection and air pressure, most heatsinks are junk.

No idea how many Scythe coolers you've tried out and for how long, but personally I've been using a Fuma 2 for more than one year (13 months, exactly) and both fans are working just fine.

Same here, I used a mugen 3 PCGH for 4 years myself, and now 9 years in total as my brother has been using it after me.
My Mugen 4 is still in use after 5+ years, now using it in my ryzen 5900X build. Everything good :)

As I said, 48 identical render nodes. All 48 were faulty by design and dead within 2 years but the sample size is still only one model.

You bought a Fuma 2 with an FDB fan. I bought Shuriken Rev.B that had the shittest sleeve-bearing fans I've ever encountered and I've three decades of experience with plenty of ultra-cheap, disposable sleeve fans from Yate Loon etc. So these Scythe 100m fans weren't just shit but an ultra rare size too. I discarded all the coolers and their faulty, difficult-to-replace-with-non-Scythe fans and replaced the whole farm with Noctua NH-L9x65s. They ran far longer, most of those Noctuas are still in use today on newer motherboards/CPUs after a CPU/Board/RAM upgrade.

Noctua aren't great value, but you can be sure that they're great quality.

Its not the screwdriver its literally trying to hold onto the AMD backplate, the mounting arm, screw and spacer while attaching the two together. An issue many coolers on AMD have. Meanwhile i got a sample on my test bench right now that uses OMG threaded standoffs on AMD. Showing how ridiculous it is that manufacturers are still using rather antiquated second tier mounting hardware on AMD systems. When AMD was literally a last ditch option (Bulldozer era) for a system build it was one thing but that isn't the case in today's market. So I push for better mounting hardware. If a tiny company compared to the bigger names can figure it out on entry level coolers there is no excuse. Just my two cents. Speaking off review on the above noted sample with threaded standoffs is coming soon.

I do like different opinions though, so yeah I do like your PoV even if I disagree ;)

If I ever build a desktop again and that is a big if, I'm just going to say **** it and get a Arctic 420mm AIO and a case that supports it and never worry about temps again. LOL

Some cases allow for installing the radiator on the outside, is it not? Looks like you will be chasing one for a long time.

i may just go without a case or do some sort of custom drilling to allow an outside install yeah. it will be fine. meh

It actually looks good, but I cannot recall whether it was aio or custom that I saw it as.

I still have 14 year old Scythe fans from Andy Samurai Master cooler. I have used various Scythe fans and had no failures. They are decent. However, their performance are only as good as you could expect from modest rpms

Outside the case water cooling holes were common in 2012, nowadays they don't exist anymore. You will need to cut case if you want them.

At the same price it's Fuma 2 no question.

So instead of a single point of failure on an air cooler (the fan), you're going to have 4 (pump, fan(s), leak, cavitation/evap). Good choice. Now only 4 things to "worry" about.

I wouldn't choose fuma unless I tape-measured the sides of its air channel. Something with crimped ends and maybe an air duct would really get the air speed going.
