Hello there,Im glad that still exist forum to talk with people who have the same kind of dissease,as is about overclocking, working on cards/motherboards etc.
Im new here so be kind to me :D
Well as I mentioned,I have a motherboard ASRock B450 Steel legend,which is mining right now,with ryzen5 2600X on it.
After some days of working I was noticed that VRM (4+2) Is getting too hot,and I have liquid cooler to cpu,so no air to cooling VRM I guess.(Can I read with some program temperature of VRM?)
So I see that for VRM used MOSFET SM4337 which is 30V 55A and I have IRF3505 which is 55V and 71A.the only difference is sm4337 have 4.5V for Gate and 3505 is for 4V.Is that can be a problem if I swap the transistors?
I thought it will be cooler than now because of max amperage. It is not overclocked...yet,but it will be in the future when stop mining.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english I do my best, and soldering skill is to 99% with solder and hot air. Thanks

Is it common that when moving to water cooling that the VRM can be in worse shape than when air cooling is used?

hi Tesla92,

I'm about to do a Z390 Gaming X mobo + i9=9900K upgrade in my watercooled pc.

I just purchased some Heatkiller pure/solid Copper water cooling blocks to put on the VRMS surrounding the CPU so as to reduce their temps = same situation as you.

You may want to consider doing the same ??

regards

It is good idea! It's simpler and more efficiency.I can try but my water cooling is cooler master with no removable parts,so I must open it and do some mods, and then fill it again with coolant.for now I put one fan to blow air on the heatsink and it seems to be better than earlier. How you will connect this(CPU -> this heatsink->radiator->CPU)?

Data sheets show that there’s a lot more difference, the 3505 mosfets are also slower , and are a different package, even if they would technically work the package is different, not recommended.
Get a heatsink and attach it with a thermal interface material, or do something like this :

Slower switching = more heat, not good.

Motherboard has heatsink and silicon pad(I guess because I can see liquid like oil which is from silicon pads when is too long on heat).
I think the next level will be water cooling or fan(to keep this nice heatsink on it :D ) but water is better to keep the system cool and silent.
This is 4+2 phases and only 4 phases getting hot, other 2 is just warm .
Now with fan under it ,I can feel the difference, but I will check it with laser for sure.

I didn’t know your board had a heatsink lol , I assumed since you’re worried about vrm temps that your board didn’t have any , oh well looking at it now , that’s a funny heatsink to say the least, totally useless, looks good but does nothing once saturated with heat

water is overkill imo , but if you find a way to mount it that’s great...

That’s not a heatsink imo , just a waste of material, no fins on it so a fan won’t do much ....

It does have fins but not really practical ones more aesthetic.

Also the silly plastic io cover probably hinders airflow so I would suggest removing it as it serves no purpose other than somewhere for them to put RGB, that and look at placing a fan to either pull air past or push air towards you can run the fan at low speed to lower noise just get some air on it.
