Will a Corsair 1600 Watt power supply rated for 200-240 Volts A.C. input work on 120 volts A.C.

some TN local code:

as a home owner myself - but din't bookmark my local; everything but lighting goes on 20amp for space heaters, vacuums, power tools - that draws a higher load. lighting fixatures; esp ceiling fans, having smaller than 12 gauge wire and may cause a fire from the high load being on the circuit.

idk about you western beatniks though . . .
As I said, that post should've been worded as "at least 15 amps."

20 amps are common in modern construction. They are not as common in older homes though, but even relatively ancient homes have 15 amp wiring (at least here)

Nice catch; perhaps the OP can tell us what he has.

10A at 100V and including inefficiencies would mean maybe 800-900W; almost half the rated value.
Half the voltage but twice the amps, that's why I wondered what kind of inlet it has, running 9 amps through something rated for 10 isn't a problem, but running 18 is. Assuming the 9 amps were measured at 200V (1800W considering wasted power), the lowest the unit is rated for.

The inner wall wiring, socket and cable are important but so is the inlet. You ***could*** run greater current through a C14 but it's not something I'd recommend.

#75 my home circuit is somewhat similar except for the ring and grounding parts (there's no ground pin on plugs), no wonder as it's derived from the -old- brit standards, wiring is 4,0mm at the top but 2,50mm for 10/16A sockets and switches, 20/25A uses 4,0mm wiring but it's not very common except for heaters, A/C and stoves, the kind of things that can fatten up your bill in seconds.

It's already been covered, but basically its a modern 100-250V capable PSU, but it's efficiency sub 200V didnt meet the 80+ standards they wanted to advertise it as
LMAO, no. I've already asked them why is that, the units with no mention of sub 200V operation on the label are the ones sold only in three regions which don't use mains voltage lower than that and for some reason state certification of these countries (not 80 Plus, forget about them, they can't force shit) requires the label to be written like that. But yeah, these units also use C14 mains socket instead of C20 woldwide, so even while internally the PSU is the same and could've been used in 100-115V mains, it's not recomended to use it like that under high load as the socket wasn't rated for such current (because again, these versions are sold in 220-240V countries).

sorry i didn't catch the ninja - i was busy tracking down the codes; which get updated frequently. not too long ago it would have 15 amps for everything as you said so your statement wasn't unfounded . ;)

Evidence? We've seen evidence indicating that from statements from Corsair employee Jon, so...
You mean the screenshot i've shared before ? ;D I've expanded on my reply, it's not about efficiency or 80 Plus certification, it bugs me out when people say random stuff like that when there's actual correct information just a page before.

Oh sorry. I thought you were claiming it would not run on 120V. All good. I got confused, lol.

Doesn't it used a C20 connector?
Theres more than one PSU Connector?

Here in Au we call it a "kettle plug" (guess why)

Evidence? We've seen evidence indicating that from statements from Corsair employee Jon, so...
And btw, Corsair Jon is Jonnyguru. He's a *huge* name in the PSU world, and probably knows more than all of us combined about electronics.

It might be a 1600W, platinum rated PSU on 240V, but only make 650W bronze on 110V (exagerrated) - its just a matter of testing and seeing if it reboots or has issues.

Yup but when you start running multiple wires through the same conduit the rating decreases so makes sense that the sockets were limited to 16A so there's *at least* some security to prevent you from setting everything on fire. I wouldn't be able to fit a 16A plug into a 10A socket because the pins are thicker.

Had to look up power shower, indeed it seems like it uses a lot of power, not so common where I live, same with the stoves, there's gas for such things.

Theres more than one PSU Connector?
C20 is for high wattage units.

According to that regular C14 can "only" withstand 70ºC and I bet that's non-continuous.
