li-ion has a higher energy density and makes for a smaller lighter package which is why most of these portable things use it.. horses for courses..

12 volt car charging wont be very quick ether..

The solar panels seems to indicate they are not water resistant, so it cannot be left out in the elements? Does this work with other panels, or is the charge controller unable to do so?

EDIT: also, is there better tested runtime using the DC outputs instead of activating the AC outlets (for example, using a DC-DC PSU for a small desktop or 12VDC car charger for a laptop)?

I hate to see the use of Li-ion more and more into house-hold type of applications. People have no idea how flamable these things can be, and the larger the packaging the bigger the fire.

I mean ive bin in a semi closed room with a UPS on where battery's started to vent. This vent caused headache, burning eyes and what more. Li-ion are no different. Even with all the protection a thermal runaway could still occur and set the whole place on fire in matter of minutes.

But it's not really a generator is it, more a solar power collector with storage unit.
I've used similar portable panels designed for camping and they do break down after extended periods out in the weather, wires and plastic housings become brittle, and the glass becomes hazy and loses effectiveness.
If you are traveling and camping a lot based from a 4WD or camper, mount a standard solar panel on the roof of the vehicle for constant charge, hooked up through a regulator as they are generally warranted for 20 years.

they are mostly sold without the panels which basically makes them a large power bank fitted with an inverter.. charge them up before you go away for weekend trips..

useful but expensive things..

Literally looks like you read the advertising on Home Depot and whipped up a mostly useless review. Sorry but, you did no real investigation on power draw and how long it lasts under different loads. This is critical in helping decide a purchase and sadly, these types of things are grossly lacking in relative data when looking at other reviews. I tried a Ryobi one that used 4 of their 40V batteries. 3000w capable load, sounded great. All until I hooked up a fridge drawing 250-300W. It couldn't even power past 2hrs. The thing was a glorified phone charger with a light.

You test a laptop and a desktop, great...where is the data on how long till it died? So you went out and tested the panels under cloudy skies? Whoopdee doo, it's all pointless without relative power draw data.

Sorry I'm harsh but, I've looked these types of things a bit and found very few reviews with credible use data. The ones that do, often don't do anything in depth. You don't want to buy something that is going to crap out on you in the middle of the night.

you are not going to run your PC off this either though, even a high end gaming laptop with a rtx 3060 has a 180 watt power brick, if I read the article correctly this can only do 165 watts?

it has a 1000 wh battery.. probably a 500 watt inverter.. there will be some power losses in the inversion.. do the math...

tis all about size and portability though.. they do come in much bigger sizes.. he he..

it will run a gaming laptop just not for very long.. as it runs down the inverter will cut out at around 11 volts under a heavy-ish load..

the li-ion battery will go from 12.6 volts fully charged down to around 9.5 volts flat..

as much as I love these solar panels and batteries, it just doesn't have enough longevity. i have been considering living in a camper van, cause technically speaking all i need is my kindle paperwhite to read books, and my gaming laptop. but i think it would require to many solar panels and to many batteries for it to be feasible, so the plan is dead in the water. meh.

Niche product, but looks interesting - and funnily something I was looking at a bit more in the past as I want to get away from renting generators for BM every time I make it over to Nevada from the continent. This might be a nice solution which I could easily store with a friend ...

yep I agree, I'd love to see a review on different kinds of solar panels, battery storage options, price comparison's, quality, measurements of charging times between panels (actual solar panels, are they all the same? I have no idea), some may charge quicker than others, a full on topic on figuring out everything to do with solar would be an A+++ review imo. cause I want to be free of these corrupt utility companies run by mini-aristocratic families in small town USA (in USA most utility companies are run by friends/family who just hire other friends/family, its basically a new form of aristocracy)

@W1zzard give us a 40 minute article or video on solar everything! lead us from the desert wastelands almighty Wizard! 40 arduous minutes that will lead to our salvation! our freedom from the coal, the miners of both digital and literal, and freedom from them all!!! give us solar education!!!

i have just finished "solarizng" my garden shed.. 14 x 150 watt on the roof.. 8 x 100 ah lithium batteries.. 2000 watt inverter.. 1 x 40 amp and 1 x 60 amp mppt controlers..

trouble is its mid winter with next to no sun and short daylight hours.. so i cant really put it to the tests.. he he..

i do think its a "tech" subject and deserves more coverage on a tech site..

i did my RV trailer first before doing the shed..
