Looking for feedback: 6900xt vs 3080

Some info:
  • the 6900xt is the aorus waterforce edition (seems one of the highest clocked for this series). Looking at the clocks and comparing it against the Asrock Formula OC and Powercolor Red Devil Ultimate, this Gigabyte board is most likely an XTXH
  • the 3080 is from Zotac and it seems it's one of the regular model (nothing fancy)
  • both are on sale and same price. Best price nationally for their respective series
  • 6800xt and 3070ti (not on sale) is the same price at the 2 cards
  • The 3080ti is even more expensive than the 6900XT
  • I have no intention of mining on my GPU
I've read various reviews and I'm leaning towards the 6900xt but these reviews used older drivers which can make a huge difference.

Thanks for the advice.

same price? take the 6900XT
want a product with longer warranty (5 years for zotac) and less issues over all (from graphics problems in call of duty games over pixelated SSRs in the frostbite engine) take the 3080.

i'd still take the 6900XT every day. but do get a very high end PSU... RDNA2 has insanely high transients (into the 1KW range)

- what's SSR? (did a net search and nothing showed up using ssr frostbite engine keywords)
- I have a BeQuiet 1K platinum which I believe should be suitable

Thanks again.

screen space reflections. many frostbite games (like battlefield) have very low resoultion reflections on water and puddles.
same with Call of Duty titles (BO:CW and newer) where you have white or grey pixelated squares on windows and other surfaces when looking at them in certain angles.

The 6900XT is generally faster but DLSS is much better than FSR at 1440p/1080p so to me it depends on what resolution you plan to game on. 4k I would lean 6900XT if going with a lower resolution I'd probably lean 3080. The 3080 is generally 9% slower at 4k vs the 6900XT when talking about pure rasterized performance but it can be quite a bit faster with RT enabled in a lot of games.

So it really depends how important RT in games like Cyberpunk, Control, and Metro Exodus are to you because the 3080 will give you a better experience in all of them.

Tough one though would be pretty difficult for me to decide personally.

That 6900XT have an AIO or a waterblock only? Do you have an existing watercooling setup? If you already have a watercooling setup and that card is waterblock only, I'd get the 6900XT.

If you don't have watercooling existing, I'd get the 3080.

I am preparing to water cool my setup (have most of the stuff. Just not the time. Most likely will be doing it during the Christmas holidays)
