Watercooling Pump Question

When I last had a custom loop, this was the pump I was using. It served me really well back then.

This is the distro plate I am using now.

EK-Classic DP Side PC-O11D G1 D-RGB + DDC 3.2 PWM EK-DP-S-O11-DRGB-DDC3.1 (performance-pcs.com)

It does have the 3.1 DDC pump. It is currently working fine, and I do hear it on occasion. It is about a year old now.

I was looking at this pump as a replacement. EK-Loop DDC 4.2 PWM Motor EK-LOOP-DDC-42 (performance-pcs.com)

It has been recommended by EK to get a heatsink for it. EK-Quantum Convection DDC - Black EK-QTM-CONVT-DDC-BK (performance-pcs.com)

Has anyone used this pump that can provide some input? Has anyone ever put a heatsink on their pump? The pump is in the back of the chassis and doesn't get much if any airflow.

I just put the EK DDC 4.2 in my loop a couple days ago. Albeit on the outside of the case on an external pump/res. I would definitely recommend some sort of heatsink, DDCs get warm at even 50% PWM and the 4.2 is no exception.

I have a Bitspower heatsink for mine, but as long as you get a heatsink that's properly mounted with thermal pads and whatnot, it's all the same. Bonus points if it's in the case where airflow passes over it, but mine does just fine on the outside.

Never got alarmingly warm even after some time running at 100% PWM when bleeding the loop - the 4.2 comes with a PWM header and a SATA power header, when it detects the PWM isn't plugged in it'll just run the pump at 100%.

The Quantum Convection heatsink just looks like a boujee version of the regular silver/black EK heatsink. I'd just get one of those cheaper two instead for $25.

Get a heatsink yes, that's always a good idea with a DDC. Replace the I assume to be working fine pump, why?

Yea get the heatsink/case. If there is not much flow attach a small fan to it like literally goop glue a fan onto the underside of the sink portion. Or figure out some other way to get some latent flow to it.

I have the Bitspower Sedna 011D distro plate with Bitspower S1 pump (DDC) running since Dec 2018 and it still running strong at 100%PWM at all time and no heatsink, liquid temp ~40C during gaming
