My Bill is paid by DD, most of the time i neither know or care how much it is. Is a fast chip, runs cool idle and runs at 70 or less at 100% so why should i give a shit how much power it it using.

spot the two americans, probably in colder climates

When ambients at 40C and you pay 30 cents per kw/h of electricity...

Hah.. During the summer here in TX we easily see 40C days, although not IN my house, i keep it around 74F/23C inside.

You got me on the Electricity though, I pay around 11 cents per kw/h.

Both at full load, my 12900k doesnt run any hotter than my old 3900x system in the same room.. it did run pretty hot at default voltage settings though.

Don't really see what that has to do with anything tbh. i'm just not hung up on CPU power use. Big deal it uses more power than AMD but if that is just about the only reason it seems not to buy it, even if it stomps just about every current AMD CPU people need to worry about other things than the cost of their electricity. Jeez i'm pretty sure there are people driving cars that only do 8mpg and they are seemingly more concerned because ADL consumes higher power than the AMD. talk about first world problems

Tough to beat Intel atm if you're into gaming.

Nope. I'll get a an used 5000 series CPU when I'll upgrade from my 3600, unless AMD makes a refresh lineup of Zen3 CPUs for AM4.

As now i have Ryzen 3 3100 CPU, i very not satisfied with AMD prices for upgrade. If the Ryzen 5 5600x is cost 300 usd, an 5800x even more expensive, i rather buy for 290 the much faster intel core i512600KF and spend extra an a good ddr4 motherboard.

At the end of the day if you are not interested in switching to ADL, fine, but no need to constantly witter on about the reasons why not. If you've a low end ryzen maybe it is a good idea to buy a 56/5800x. My cpu was well down the list so decided to switch. been a while since i have jumped on a new architecture/chipset, and have zero regrets at all.
And vice versa pal.

If you are fine with upgrading no need to rant a war against those who think differently.

You got your system for free.................anything you say about the platform is simply meaningless and you had a B450 Motherboard, if you didnt get the ADL system for free you would be saying things completely opposite.

You got your system for free-I paid for it, £699 so not exactly free i'd say. i was gifted cash and chose to use it for the board and CPU, why didn't i just get a 5xxx CPU for my B450 board? Well sometimes it is interesting to jump on a new CPU/Chipset, imo the B450 is lower end for a 5xxx CPU so i would probably have bought a better board for it, which would have meant paying for a 5800x cpu and a 570 board. And lastly why not, I am not a Raging AMD or Intel fan, the ADL is no doubt a high performance setup whether it uses 240w or not, as i have previously said, as long as you can cool it meh who cares.

Meaningless ok whatever

Who's ranting a war  seems to me it's the opposite from people trying to justify reasons not to. again whatever.

Also, i got the board and CPU for free not the "system", the rest i have paid for. i won't bother with this idiotic pointless thread no more. say what you like, you will get no more comment on the matter from me. I am enjoying my "FREE :roll:system" enjoy whatever you have

This thread was just asking for trouble from the start imo. Perfect for starting some sort of Amd vs Intel battle.

People with 5950x CPU's saying i'm not switching, well duh i don't think anyone in their right mind would if you had that CPU. Anyone with a 5xxx CPU has no reason to even consider switching.

Maybe it should have been. if you have a Amd CPU below 5xxx series would you consider switching to ADL? as anything 5xxx would be a pointless move. If i'd have had a 5xxx CPU i would still have it.

Also if someone gets something for free, how the fuck is their opinion on it meaningless?

Continue this "war" however you like my opinion is said if you agree or not i don't give a rats

/unsub
Your opinion was heard ,hasn't changed and is yours.

Great example though.

Well i am being gifted a I7 12700K and a z690-A wifi D4 board, so i see no reason not to go for it. Sure i could probably stick a 56/5800 in my B450 board, but i see no reason to when i can have a free AL upgrade, and sell my 2600x/b450 pro s stuff for probably £250?
Oh but it does.

You were getting it free.

Later you decry the free point, you paid.

Soo your position is solidified by your experience and luck.

Few have said AL is a Bad platform, most think it's great including me, but most are not feeling the need to jump ship either yet your lurking here defending your platform, there's no need really , it's a great platform.

In the UK Pal is a start ,you may get to mate or even beyond but perhaps not.

And it's beyond pointless replying to someone else with a snide reply to me.

I just bought into all AMD (5950x/6900xt) for the first time ever. Having looked (or listened) to the Intel reviews, I'll stay where I am at for a couple years. If I were coming from my older Intel chips it would be a different story. I'm happy with my build.

Its really odd to me how anyone could be all in for one "team" unless maybe someone owns alot of stock in said company, I could see that :)

I love my Alder lake build, but my AMD 3900X is running my home server currently hosting about 15 Virtual Machines and is rock solid to this day.

Both Teams are in good places right now, its a good time to be an enthusiast.

Short answer No, long answer Noooooooo.
Yea, Intel got performance crown again, but I wouldn't trade ~10% for the hassle of moving to a new motherboard, clunky and tacky new operating system and the possibility of installing all the programs as rumors circulated that fresh installs are more stable than upgrades. If I need more performance, it's easier for me to plop 5950X, but I think it's better to wait for what AMD has to offer next year.

I read the review. And the summery was well stated.
Sure, the top model from AMD wins a few tests but generally the only area where an AMD CPU has a lead is the CPU tests(5950X@3%). In every other metric the 12900k has the performance lead by 5% or better except in the 2160p test which shows GPU bottlenecking.

Those benchmarks are echoed all over the net. The 12900k is the performance King at the moment, full stop, end of story.

These reviews do show one thing very clearly, AMD is forcing Intel to pull out all the stops to compete. And that's only good for the consumer.

For reference, that statement about VCache on AM4 is at 8:25. That's cool. They should be highlighting that fact not mentioning it as a side note so people know that AM4 has got more love coming.
R9 5950x is 1½ years older than i9-12900K Alder Lake, using older RAM tech. Those tests didn't make much sense to me actually. I have 5950X that oc core or two 5,20GHz on better half & 5,15GHz lesser half. Nevertheless been playing around with i9-12900K (both custom cooled) it certainly has it's benefits. But need to wait AMD's answer first before I make a call on this....

It was never about the brand. That's what people fail to understand. One has to consider many things when upgrading...
I am still sitting here with a ‘bought used’ 2008 Dell XPS 730x as money and pricing for me is everything. Surely not brand names! Many gaming people and real bargain hunters I regularly meet at the local computer show maintain to buy AMD even with knowing it’s not as smooth or performing as Intel. AMD is generally speaking so much cheaper! At the shows cash is always king and thus sales tax is freely forgiven for even more savings. Most all here like me are on the lower-end of the food-chain so we are always hobbling together old hardware piles and hoping for better times ahead. Respectful third shift greetings from the Walmart employee lunchroom and from the man on the street!

Respectfully, go try a RYZEN system, they're as, if not smoother than Intel and Still more performing than Intel, and while that last point is definitely debatable depending on the use case it certainly is not the case that AMD are always cheaper.

And anyway ,did you read the OP, do you own RYZEN, are you buying i12### ?!

Sigh.
