Due to the growth of confirmed Omicron cases in the United States, the global leading gaming brand, MSI, officially announced that its on-site CES physical presence in Las Vegas will be canceled for the safety of all employees, customers and fans. The new products for 2022 will be showcased through online events virtually.

"Since December, the rapidly spreading Omicron variant has brought the USA a surge of COVID-19 cases. The health and well-being of our employees, customers and fans are our top priority. Hence, we have decided not to participate in-person at CES 2022 and will join the show virtually with our online product launch," said Sam Chern, MSI Marketing Vice President.

MSI has prepared MSI Gamerverse and MSI-VERSE, two virtual events showcasing the new Gaming, Content Creation, Business & Productivity lineups along with peripherals and components for 2022. MSI Gamerverse will be live on January 4, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. PDT, and the MSI-VERSE event will be available to view from January 5-8, 2022. MSI Gamerverse will showcase the new 2022 laptop lineup, while MSI-VERSE consists of three series: Gaming, Content Creation, and Business & Productivity. In MSI-VERSE, fans can explore the latest hardware & software solutions, join streaming activities, play games, earn virtual coins, and get a chance to win grand prizes in an immersive and interactive way.

I made a negative comment in another thread about companies pulling out minly because they didnt say anything about a virtual presentation. These latest refusals, at least they are trying to present something.

With little signs about them hiring on the spot.....

I too think this isn't much to worry about, as another indicated these pieces probrably won't be readily available to just anyone with the supply chain issues going on.
Not to mention what would these be going for anyway?
With all else figured in I'm thinking the scalpers will be at work so.....

Las Vegas IIRC is slowly turning more family friendly. So those showgirls will probably get more kid-friendly routines as time goes on. Too many areas in the country have legalized gambling. Las Vegas's reputation as "the city of sin" is dying, because its really not that sinful anymore at least by modern standards.

I'm seeing a lot more "Las Vegas is a good place to retire! Look at our low taxes" sorts of messaging / advertisements these days compared to before (which used to be gambling / drinking / sinful advertisements, so to speak)

I dunno, CPU/GPU releases aren't really a thing at CES. I've always followed for cases and peripherals. Not that I blame anyone for not showing up under these circumstance, but I’m usually looking forward to the Silverstone, Lian-Li and In-Win booths more than anything else.

I'm serious! I've got an uncle that bought his retirement home in Las Vegas. He's not even the gambling type. Retirement is largely about minimizing your expenses. Low taxes are one benefit. City-life is actually pretty good too (more access to various food, sports, and other entertainment venues). There's a lot of retirement communities popping up in and around that city (https://www.55places.com/nevada/area/las-vegas-area).

Especially when you consider the very high cost of living in neighboring states (especially California), it just doesn't make financial sense to retire in say... San Francisco unless you're well into 10MM net worth or higher. Las Vegas is a bit of a drive, but is actually has a low enough cost-of-living (lower cost housing, lower taxes, etc. etc.) that its a major consideration for west-coast retirees.

Bonus points: Desert means no grass / no lawncare for the rest of your life. (Yeah yeah, there are some people who want to have a green lawn in Las Vegas and waste water. But if you think about it, the desert environment isn't really all that bad from a lawncare perspective... much easier to take care of sand / rocks than trying to tend grass)

-------

The other option is to find a rural town (plenty of them on the West Coast), but then you lose the city life atmosphere of restaurants / sports / etc. etc. I've got other uncles who prefer the rural life of course, nothing wrong if you want to set up your own garden / large lawns somewhere with more water.

Obviously, you gotta find a city that matches your expectations. If you want a lawn / garden, Las Vegas is a bad option. But there's more than enough water for you to live personally and frugally, at least just as much water as the other spots in California (which are also largely irrigated desert environments). All the green, grassy areas are further north in Oregon / Washington state. Anyone who lived in the arid / desert California regions their whole life could very well find Las Vegas a good retirement area.

-----

Las Vegas as a city is in the process of reinventing itself. Its very weird to watch for sure. This is one of the last areas I expected to get a ton of retirement communities.

If CES wants to destroy their own organization based on fraud they technically have the right.

What organization promotes consumer tech that isn't participating in the covid fraud?
