I don't understand 5600X pricing.

Why is the 5600X selling for more than the 5600G? Momentum? The extra 200 MHz boost clock doesn't seem like a good tradeoff vs. US$40+ and an IGP. And the 3600 is going for the same money as the 5600X. WT actual F? What am I missing?

The 5600X has double the L3 Cache, and supports PCIE 4.0 where as the 5600G doesn't.

Imo is a production cause - 5600g die can only be sold as 5600g whereas 5600x chiplest can be sold as 5900x, threadripper Epyc etc. Same with 5700g that is a lot cheaper than 5800x.

I think the 5600X is a wicked little CPU. It sips power, runs cool, and games pretty hard.. but it isn't top dog in its class anymore, and its a bit expensive. I am still waiting for that 5950X to hit 400 beaver bucks

5600g is an apu 5600x is just a cpu, 5600x runs at 4.6ghz manual oc with little effort, 5600g runs around 4.5ghz but takes more voltage to get there, 5600g has half the cache of the 5600x. Both are good choices, I went with a 5600x.

EDIT: Thread title

If you're looking to extract the most dGPU perf you can, 5600G is not a competitive option. 5700G can barely match the 3700X in games - it may not look like much but the 3700X > 5600X upgrade is noticeable in many titles, even with a midrange GPU.

The 4000G and 5000G APUs have always suffered on account of their L3 size. Still an excellent choice if building a tiny HTPC with limited cooling (esp. 5600G), if you need iGPU, or if you want to have a little fun with mem OC on the side - even though they aren't the best at it anymore. My 5700G is quite a bit warmer, but my 5600G probably could have kept under 65C with an Intel stock cooler

The freq difference is not drastic, 5600G gets up to 4650MHz max PBO boost and 5700G up to 4850MHz (silicon quality permitting), but freq doesn't help Cezanne compensate for the L3 difference.

the 5600x is absurdly good.
absurdly.

Go look at TPU's 12900K review and compare how it sits in the gaming charts, vs how it sits in the power charts.
Within 10% of a 12900K (closer to 5% usually) but can do that on a wraith stealth? on a $50 motherboard?

It's always showing high in performance charts, and its the leader for power efficiency in all of them as well.
If it was priced cheap, the shortage of them would be even worse.

5600X upgrade is noticeable in many titles, even with a midrange GPU.
I did the 3700x to 5800x upgrade and was blown away. Seeing 50FPS more on average in certain titles - halo MCC was one of them.
If i wasnt on a 165Hz display, i'd likely have not noticed any change at all, however.

Intel isn't that competitive in pricing because of motherboard and cooler costs, so AMD doesn't really have an incentive to lower pricing for the 5600x.

5600G is pretty niche to me. I think it only really makes a lot of sense if you never plan on paring it with a discrete gpu. Otherwise I would rather spend more and pair a 12400F or 5600X with a used GTX 1030. Assuming I couldn't afford a higher end gpu.

Okay and what if someone made a desktop for sole media purposes in a case with no space for a dGPU? That's one reason APUs like the 5600G exists.

Both 5600G & 5700G are arguably the best "VFM" GPU's right now, anything above a GT 710 is insanely priced these days heck the GT 710 is also being scalped :shadedshu:

I understand why the 5600X is more expensive than the 5600G. It's a faster CPU with PCI-e gen 4.

I don't understand why it's more expensive than the 11400F, though.

I think my original comment covered that.... It makes sense for people who do not need a dgpu but even in that case there are much better options like the 12100/12400 hell if you live by a microcenter a 12600k is like 249 usd right now with 20 off a mobo at least it was the last time I was instore I think the 12400 was like 170.....

Their iGPU isn't as strong as what the 5600G has. Sometimes people need a little more oompf. Not everyone can specifically afford a GPU with everything else.

I think this has to do with intel having way more control over pricing.

igp performance's more important, and for that theres no way around the 5600g/5700g, intel's desktop igps arent even close

Do you mean this is how AMD is trying to claw back the profit from the gaming market that they didn't enjoy before Ryzen?

That could be part of it but the major difference is AMD doesn't make anything on its own it required to bid for wafers from TSMC... Intel has it's own foundries and can more easily dictate it's own pricing. Also even with the superior performance tier for tier for ADL I've seen massive price cuts on the 12400/12600k already at Microcenter likely due to poor sales. That really has nothing to do with the 5600X costing more than the 5600G to me that comes down to the 5600X being the superior product even without an iGPU.

the 5600G has a big niche for people who are genuinely on restricted budgets (the 5700G doesnt really have a good reason to exist)

here the most common build is 10100f/10105f ($75) + gt 1030 2gb gddr5 ($100).

a 5600g is $265, and a 12100f is $120

the gt 1030 has no competitors, and the 5600g is a bit faster than it

I'm not seeing much interest in 5600x at all, because it doesn't deliver any compelling value: if you want a 6c/12t then the 12400f is MUCH cheaper ($100), newer platform, and 98% of the performance, and then there is the 11400f and 10400f as well for less, and if you want a fast CPU then even the 12600KF is $20 cheaper and obviously much better.

in the real world of expensive GPUs, the 5600G makes a deal of sense and not just for itx HTPCs - lots of people game on very old GPUs in tower cases because that's all they can afford

I'm not a huge fan of the 5600X for 250-300 usd either but it's been the best selling cpu here in the states on Amazon/newegg for a long ass time so it is what it is.

Honestly 5600X should have been 50usd less. Since MB is wsy cheaper than Intel it somewhat makes up for it. 12400F+B660 is a bit cheaper, but also a bit slower, that is the closest competition atm.

I wouldn't bother with 12th gen less than the 12600KF. The extra 4 EE cores are definitely not worth skimping out from IMO.

Over here a new 5800X is the price of a 12600K + Asrock B660M DDR4. Even if I have to undervolt the latter to accommodate the trashy VRM, its still gonna comfortably beat a 5800X.

I can buy an Asrock B660M Pro RS + 12400F for $320, or the equivalent 5600X + B550M Pro 4 for $420.

On top of the $100 price advantage the B660M platform is newer and holds the possibility of future upgrades, which would appear not to exist with the B550M. Ok, technically the 5600X might be 2% faster, but it's questionable whether you'd pay any more $ for it at all.

More relevantly I could get a 12600KF+mobo for the same $420, which has 10 cores and is quite a lot better.

I guess AMD has good credibility at the moment?
