So a quick disclaimer, I run a system integration company called MagnuTron, but I was a user on TPU long before that.

MSI A520M-A PRO + RX 6600XT + 5600X - I spin up CSGO against bots on the map Ancient, because it is the most demanding map atm. My GPU will be using around 40-70W, keeping clock somewhat up there (+2000 MHz) and usage jumping between 30-70%. The CPU will be using around 50W and some threads will be on 4500 ish MHz, and others around 3700 MHz, rotating around which threads are boosting and which are not. I get HORRENDOUS framerates, considering the specs. And the machine as we can see, is not being pushed at all.

I was selling the same setup before but with RTX 3060, but as the 6600XT has better value, we switched. The same test with a 3060 gives me a CPU power draw of around 60W, but still not full speed ahead when it comes to frequency. Sure it's a A520 board, so the boosting isn't expected to go full bananas with PBO. However, my framerate is roughly double of that than with the RX6600XT. My only question is - HOW? Are we talking bad drivers here?

So 3rd test, running the RX6600XT, on a X570 board with 5600X. CPU running 5-10W higher and getting a bit higher boost times, due to the increased PBO on X570. But the framerate is still poopy. I tried playing around between Gen3 and Gen4 with the x8 lanes this card has to offer, and atleast on Ancient I did see a rather large loss of performance in some areas.

Confusion ensues.

So the 6600XT only runs 8x PCI-E and some performance can be lost running a PCI-E Gen 3. I see your board does not run Gen 4 which the 6600XT likes.

But in saying that I didn't think it would be all that much difference.

Hopefully others will chime in with their thoughts.

Good Luck : )

Not sure too because PBO off/on won't matter for CS:GO.

Why wouldn't it? CS with modern hardware pushes so many frames, much more work for the CPU than a modern GPU.

I feel like the whole PCIe lane talk has been gone over to death. When a RTX 3090 barely gets much of a cut on performance, why would the 6600XT? Either way I just tried running with Gen3 and Gen4, and indeed there is a performance loss, at least when running Ancient. FPS_Benchmark map does not really have any change - but on Ancient if I spawn as CT vs bots, and run around the backwall in spawn, I get around 80-100 FPS on Gen3, and 100-160 on Gen4. What the hell?!

My 5600x does 10800 PBO off vs 11500 MT PBO on in Cinebench R23 and its already getting ~700 FPS in the CS:GO benchmark map on the former.

Check the mobo manual if it has m.2 occupied it maybe halving the pcie 16x slot.

Saw this recently.

It isn't. Besides, the 6600XT is a x8 card so that doesn't even matter :/

You got a B550 or something around to swap your setup to? One way to debug whether 3x8's the bottleneck here ...

I am using a X570 on the side as mentioned in OP. There is a loss of performance on ancient between G3 and G4 yes. But fx using 3DMark I get almost identical scores, which ties in correctly with every article on PCIe scaling that has been made. Something is NOT right here.

What are your ram specs?

I got this part down. Don't worry. The RAM is 3200C16. Not that it should matter, because as I mentioned - RTX 3060 works fiddly-fine.

Just to add in here, the FPS isn't bad per say on any other maps but ancient. Dust2 is also not running "optimally" compared to RTX 3060 but yeah.

this sounds like the (in-)famous Radeon™things or something, have you tried it w/ a 6700XT or so, maybe?

Yeah tried it with the 6700XT aswell. Not getting expected performance here either. So yeah I think it is a mix between PCIe scaling being worse than normal, and AMD just having _CRAP_ performance on ancient compared to NVIDIA.

I mean UBM had been shitting on AMD for fps drops for ages using CSGO as the uhm benchmark
I'm aware about UBMs biases and shitposting, but they tend to have a point (like, the fact that Skylake's superior IMC meant higher fps than Matisse) about things

I guess this is just a case of Radeon™things™. Have you encountered performance anomalies w/ any other game tho?

I don't really play anything else but CS, and the worst part is that I bought literally 10 pieces of A520 and 6600XT with the intention of selling it is a CS:GO oriented PC, a PC I would use myself. But at this point, I really cannot justify the purchase. So what am I to do here? Buy 10 pieces of B550 and 10 pieces of RTX 3060, do a swippy-swap to make the performance usable? I would much rather want to get AMDs driver team on such a big issue - we are talking about one of the biggest eSports games out there, and this kinda handicaps this card for that purchase.

Also, who/what is UBM?

In Wattman, raise your minimum clock to something like 2000 MHz. RDNA2 uses Ryzen like down clocking, so when there is no heavy load your 6600 XT down clocking to save power.

what do you understand under bad performance?
how many FPS do you get? CS:GO is a game that barely runs on more than 2 threads. of course there is barely any GPU/CPU Load.

userbenchmark, where you can bench your own system and upload the results akin to like, 3dmark or something (but much simpler)
and they have a definitive nv/intel bias, altho not all of it is w/o reason

I don't have much room for UBM at all. They don't make sense to me.

Well when I am running on a 5600X+6600XT on FHD high'ish settings with 80-200 FPS on ancient - I consider it low FPS.

Okay big update, I have totally discarded this launch option before because I didn't think a dx9 disable command would have ANY impact on just 1 map, the newest CSGO map in the competetive map pool mind you.

-disable_d3d9ex
This launch command totally negates all bad performance in CSGO on AMD systems.. Boom..

Bro, I registered here just because I want to say thank you!
I have 5800x (PBO oc 4,9ghz) + Rx 6600 Eagle tripple fan on b550 msi tomahawk an I had like 100-200 fps in csgo. Did really everything, but nothing helped.
But after this launch option Command Iam around 400-600 on mirage for example.

You can thank some random dude on YouTube. Thing is, my performance is still up and down - it helped with the no DX9 Extra command but yeah.. Something is def' off. Some kind of featureset that isn't running optimally on there cards :/

Dont know. I was moving from rx590, just bcs It was doing. And actually I think it was better card
I hope some really good updates will come and will fix this mess.
Btw: do you have better fps on csgo with gen 4 or gen 3 pcie set in bios?
