More Z590 board security updates...

I frequently check the MSI update page for my particular motherboard every few days or so & only today did I see an update for my Z590 board with this bios description - " Update Intel Micro code for security vulnerabilities" although its back dated to 19th April...

A random check of other vendor Z590 based motherboards also shows Asrock doing the same thing one of their boards (although no bios description is available!) & Asus did it too with a certain model of their Z590 range of boards but dated 24th March, although each vendor does it at different times obviously. This is a curious problem & either there is a security problem affecting all Z590 based chipset boards across the entire range or not. I don't know about other Intel chipset boards, have no personal interest in them.

So I'd suggest anyone with any late model Intel chipset based motherboard to be checking up on BIOS updates if they are concerned with security issues.

After updating bios to v1.4 for my MSI Z590 Unify board. The CPU lite mode option that worked well in the v1.3 bios is completely broken now. Have to waste time n' fiddle with adaptive mode options instead, this was something I was doing before stumbling upon threads around the net talking about MSI's unique feature for RKL cpus.
So a word of warning to other users of MSI Z590 boards!

I have to admit I didn't bother checking lately, but I noticed a lot of the major Intel security issues are related to either: local access, or vPro / AMT and as far as I know, only the Q, W or C boards support that functionality, but I suppose if they put it in a bios update, it must be important, "Intel microcode" suggests CPU related.

I had to reinstall windows as a consequence cause' the MS system of updating the PIN was timing out too frequently to complete via MS servers.
It seems they fix this but break other functions in the bios so be aware if inclined to update.

Hi,
My policy if things aren't broken, don't fix it
This especially for bios updating intel micro code updates beside ms updates will install if available which I also disable.

If you don't have bios flash back features it's crazy to flash new bios frequently

Wait.. you disable MS updates as well?
I'm not too worried though with this Z590 system atm, I'll be updating it all in the weeks to come anyway, just having my last tweaking sessions on the RKL platform before "side grading" it to another system I have here.
