That's indeed very confusing. So you'll have to dig TDP configuration info of each laptop you are looking at, if you can even find it...
If you don't look at it you could end up with a more expensive i7 laptop performing the same or slightly worse than an i5 laptop.

OEM's hardly ever fix issues, mostly they just bloat it up more.

Both my laptop's are Intel, my company will go Intel next time, so might I have but it won't be this generation, and if Intel don't get they're power consumption and in more general terms shit together it won't be an Intel one at this rate.

Hi,
Intel has been playing catch up/ reactionary for a while with dropping so many lakes since amd 5k series released it's really hard to buy one atm it just seems intel is desperate.

I really look forward to amd's next drop more than anything then intel will be reactionary again with a slue of early releases

The article premise is a bit flawed. Rather than setting at say X watt and Intel saying "no you cannot adjust at all" to the manufacturers, they are giving them leeway into adjusting it so your designs are much more flexible. If they made 28W and 15W, then what do you do with the gap? What if your designs call for 20W? 35W? 18W? 24W? The TDP(within limits of course, you can adjust only to a limit) is now a knob they can adjust in making a product, that's all.

Also customers almost always prefer better performance. Most are nowhere near technical to know things like TDP versus performance anyway. It's a futile exercise to explain to them. Try it, you'll get eye rolls or they mock you or they'll simply stop listening.

If you wanted a laptop that checks all specs, you need to do due diligence. It was always the case, with any product, not just computers. If you just go out and buy one you'll find that you don't like this certain aspect.

Flawed, that's the whole point.

With variable tdp an I5 beats an I7 and some I7 designs Don't have the Tdp headroom to utilise their own hardware.


So as I said, the report said , and you agree.

The specs mean little in Some cases and you need to be vigilant about which you buy.
