Single thread uplift, meaning not IPC, just performance. With those clocks it might end up being furnace, if that's true, then it's very disappointing. There was no need for that, not when AMD shows superior engineering. Perhaps, AMD is running out of steam again. Either way, this is sending some RX 6500XT and FX 9590 vibes.

There's a lot of valid ways to critisize ecores. I for one don't like that they mix instruction sets, etc. But the low power side of them is actually usable, good, and very valid when sitting in Desktop apps. Nothing "pretend" about that.

I'd still prefer they just made allaround efficient pcores but thats a bit OT.

With pretend-lower power consumption I meant the whole CPU. There's nothing simpler (to the over-zealous leadership of the company) than to order to mix low power production line with high power to (in their heads) get an acceptable product. Either it's very hard to optimise normal cores further or there are process limitations (still) in the way.
And what is better than the compromised software maker that does everything to make such a product really look good?

E waste cores. you clearly do not understand them, maybe you should try before making yourself look dumb

E Cores are called Efficiency Cores and not Performance Cores for a reason... they belong into devices with a battery...
the cripple the Ring clock by at least 1Ghz, turning them off without touching anything else can boost some games by so much that you think you went from a 2600k to a 12900k (Valorant is the best example where disabled e cores bump up the framerate by around 150-250 FPS on average.)

So just a mere optical shrink of Zen3 with clock and L2 bump, an they shunck in the decrepit RDNA2 in the IO chip to negate shrinking space benefits of 6nm, compared to 12nm.

E Cores are...

You have crippled the PCIe to 12x and removed the direct M.2 off the CPU die, perhaps you might want to rethink this decision.
maybe in meteor lake there will be performance core only variant, but in fewer core count 6-8, so we get what we get.
The presence or not of Ecore and iGPU is irrelevant and not many people can afford 12-16 core anyways,
or should they even consider it, what for. the forum signature, no idea.

because it is so important in a desktop PC cooled with a 360mm radiator and a 1200W PSU that my 600 dollar CPU beats another one at 35W. (btw their multicore performance is so low that a 10 core would already be faster even with slightly lower clocks)
i want the maximum performance and not this hybrid laptop junk that makes everything worse just by existing. (including wasting die space and raises the price of the CPU)

I would actually like to see that, because I seem to remember a 5950X being locked to a very low TDP before was actually exceptionally good.

Valorant somewhat utilizes ~12 threads and two are under high load.
as soon as e cores are enabled one of these two threads sits in the last e-core and one on the p cores.

the "standing still in a corner on an empty map" FPS are similar but while playing the game it's massive. (250-400 FPS with the E Cores and around 400-600 FPS without them)
the "4.65GHz" in Task Manager are there because of the 4Ghz E-Core clock that loweres the average. both are at 5Ghz and 4.3GHz Ring.

Is it worth disabling my E cores( 12700k) and running just as 8/16 on P cores then?

X86 is what it is; thank wintel over the years for pushing it. So now we are kind of stuck with it.
More important is to not make it even worse because some company can't get their manufacturing process together.

If Microsoft would make Windows ARM version that works as good as the OSX for M1 with good emulation for x86 just to make the transition smoother from X86 to ARM it would be a different story.
I'm not saying the x86 should be buried I'm sure it will have place in the server world and personal space for some as well but for 99.99% of people ARM just makes more sense.
If we would have ARM desktop chip that was as mass produced like the x86 are ARM should be cheaper while faster and more energy efficient.

Apple could do that because the Mx chips have class leading IPC & thermals, QC or anyone else in ARM space isn't anywhere within a million miles of them right now! Of course Apple owning the whole ecosystem makes a massive difference but still.
