Just get a 3600 CL16/18. B-die matters if you're tweaking, that's all.

Should be good now

It seems like the 5800X3D is dropping about 15 CAD a day. I looked at it a few times over the last 5 days, and it was at 648, now down to 577.. How low can it go..?

What is the 5900X3D and 5950X3D going to do to it?

Will it be a slaughter?

We really need a popcorn eating emote :)

And corsair has been known to change dies within a model number. So finding Samsung B Die is a crapshoot.

Yeah...no lol

PCPartPicker Parts List

build with the current ram i have

With just a few guidelines in mind you can easily take a look to see for yourself what's available where you are.
  • Patriot Viper Steel 4000CL19, 4000CL16, 4133CL19, 4400CL19
  • Anything 3200 CL14 (think Corsair has some)
  • Anything CL14 faster than 3200 (think Corsair has a new 3600CL14 kit)
  • Anything 3600 16-16-16
  • Anything 3600/3733/3800 CL14
  • Anything 4000CL16 or tighter at 4000
  • Anything truly high end ie. 4400CL16, 4000CL14, 4266CL16
Might be a few others I've missed. Anything else is probably either a lottery if it's low end, or Hynix DJR / Micron Rev.B if its higher end.

If you aren't going to touch anything memory related at all, 3600 16-16-16, 3600/3733/3800CL14 are decent choices for 5800X3D. 3200CL14 works but is on the slow side stock. 4000+ is dicey without any know-how.

Normally, I wouldn't count B-die as being in any way essential - but in the context of Warzone, my previous CJR kit gave me stuttering troubles specifically in that game for more than a year, regardless of settings, regardless of the profile I ran, regardless of what other parts I tried to switch out to troubleshoot. Went away instantly when I switched my main to dual rank B-die.

Hi,
Tight timings are best way to tell and I agree 3600c16 16-16-16-36 2x16 or 4x8gb is the bomb
But for a lot of different brands shopping this might come in handy

In most game, not really. Basically same bandwidth but obviously CL14 gives a bit better latency.

Hi,
I believe he did give you very good recommendations maybe read his response again

The cost of 3600c14 is just more dimm voltage which is rated for 1.45v instead of 3600c16 at 1.35v

At 1.45v 3600c16 can do 4000c16 I should know I've done it plus more than that but this is on intel x299 or z490 rigs
In other words chips are the same bin and can do a lot.
So if you see a good price for 3600c16 at 2x16 or 4x16gb, get it if tested latency timings are 16-16-16-36 because paying more just for c14 is well, insane :D

There isn't really a sweet spot for B-die unless you know how to tweak. At least, B-die you can run stock without knowing anything is expensive.

Assuming you're in Canada, look on Amazon.ca for the Patriot Viper Steel kits 4000/4133/4400 if you want to learn, they'll be the best value for 2x8 or 4x8GB setup. ~$100-150 for a pair of sticks. The 4000 16-16-16 kit is the best of the bunch and newly released.

If you don't want to learn and want something ready to go 2x8GB without absolutely breaking the bank, look for Corsair's LPX 3600CL14 kit. Still about $150 or less, find on Corsair's website or Newegg. idk if it's still on sale price.

If you want dual rank (2x16GB) that runs out of the box XMP, G.skill has half a dozen kits at 2x16 3600CL14. I have the RGB variant, but they're all the same save for the different heatspreaders. Ripjaws, Trident Z, RGB, Neo, Royals, etc. I paid about $270 for mine I think.

The 3600CL14, 3600 16-16-16, 3200CL14 G.skill kits should all be available from Newegg.ca in either single rank or dual rank form. Expect prices to be about 1/2 for 2x8GB.

Unfortunately for good B-die (higher end than Viper Steel) in Canada, 95% of it is only available on Newegg. Amazon.ca selection is hot garbage, Canada Computers usually has a bad selection, Memory Express may have some but it's dicey and they have old stock sometimes.

will higher speed always be the best option (4400/4133) or do some games run better with just the lowest latency and slightly lower speeds ( 3800 cl14) ?

i play warzone and i’ve seen good results from people tuning to 3800cl14 but idk if that’s because a good range of speed and tightest timings or if 4400 mhz just wasn’t available yet

You can't really run 4400 on desktop Ryzen, only the APUs (4650G/4750G, 5600G/5700G). Fabric doesn't scale that far so even if you can run it, Fabric and mem controller aren't synced so performance mostly sucks ass. Fpr the most part you're looking at a limit of 4000 for 5600X/5800X and 3800 for 5900X/5950X.

3800 14-15-15 is a good safe place to be, though I haven't noticed huge gains over 3600CL14 tuned in Warzone. Over 3600 16-19-19 there was definitely a difference on Warzone. But it's easy to FPS cap with a stronger GPU in that game, so I doubt you'll notice much.

With a good 5800X3D sample I reckon you'll be able to run 1:1 up to 4000-4200 maybe. But that generally requires some knowledge and a willingness to tweak, which doesn't seem to be what you're after.

So 3600-3800 is a perfectly safe bet. However, at least for dual rank (2x16GB), you're looking at roughly 1.5V-1.55V to run 3800CL14, without changing any other 3600CL14 XMP settings. Needs very abundant case airflow / well optimized sandwich case / dedicated RAM cooling / downdraft CPU cooler. So nothing is free.

Hi,
I believe he did give you very good recommendations maybe read his response again

So if you see a good price for 3600c16 at 2x16 or 4x16gb, get it if tested latency timings are 16-16-16-36 because paying more just for c14 is well, insane :Dwhat’s the difference between

You can't really run 4400 on desktop Ryzen, only the APUs (4650G/4750G, 5600G/5700G). Fabric doesn't scale that far so even if you can run it, Fabric and mem controller aren't synced so performance mostly sucks ass.

Compared to the other Vipers? This one is by far the best. I didn't even know it existed - Patriot is on a spree introducing new Viper Steel SKUs.

Can't see yet but I'm assuming 14-16-16 at 1.45V. Similar to Corsair LPX. Solid, especially for $124.

Should be great for XMP, and also for starting to learn.

I wouldn't expect wonders out of that Aorus Elite board (4-layer), but 3800 should be no problem on 4x8 if you handle the cooling needs and give it the VDIMM it needs, maybe 1.55-1.6V.

Although, I would also scour Newegg.ca for a 2x16GB kit that's around the $250 mark. Mixing two different 2x8 kits doesn't always end so well for trying to push OC, Patriot's binning for Vipers is all over the place. Some kits still end up with A0 PCB somehow which is a disaster

would the cooling in my build be enough ? or what could i get to cool the ram specifically ?
im going to try to find 2x16 thankyou

howmuch would these being 2x16 vs the other 4x8 help ? the timings seem to be slightly better @ 14 15 15 35 compare to 14 16 16 36

2x16 and 4x8 performance is the same (though some lower end boards don't like any 4DIMM setup as much). But if you put together 2 2x8 kits you always play the lottery on binning quality, so a single 2x16 or 4x8 kit takes half the guesswork out.

14-16-16 and 14-15-15 are a negligible difference at 3600, both for performance and binning

i wouldn’t understand how bad it would be to get bad binning quality ram would u say get the 2x 2x8 ram of 32 gbs i linked or it’s complete shit and not gonna work on my board and get 16x2

It'll be easier to tweak and/or run higher clocks and tighter timings if you go with two DIMMs, like 2x16.
