I like chilling a bucket of water. Bag of ice at the gas station. Get a couple hours good fun time.

But can't use a D5 for that. Got me a submersible for all that.

I never got around it but I was going to try dropping one of my mora 360's in bucket with circulating cold water off a tap and drain or like above with some ice.

The best way to improve your temps is by splitting the loop from a single "say ½ tube to two ½ tubes.
Doing it like this is going to cut the water flow by 50% (slowing down the waterflow) and this speed decrease is going to give your radiators more time to extract that heat from the water!!

!!VERY IMPORTANT!!
High flow/High head pressure pumps won't give you better temps in fact quite the opposite as I explained above!!

Bottom line is get a pump that has decent head pressure and flow you can go with either DDC/D5 both are good but if you choose DDC make sure to get a heatsink for it!
Avoid other knockoffs such as VPP...

Hi,
I never got around it but I was going to try dropping one of my mora 360's in bucket with circulating cold water off a tap and drain or like above with some ice.
I had a permanent tap to drain loop, but we moved so I no longer have it. Was good for 8700K at 5.4ghz HT off about 45f delta on average.

Using the same loop, 2700x at defaults, the cpu pinned all core 4.3ghz except under heavy load, defaulted to 3.9ghz any ways. But was interesting to play with reaching a max clock of 4.5ghz.

The tap to drain also really spectacular for TEC chilling. I accomplished 2700x all core 4ghz at 1.190v at load. Seems the cooler they run, the less they leak, seemingly dramatic results on a chip that typically needs 1.40v to achieve the same clock with any stability.

Obviously not practical. I had (still have and in use) delidded the processor and had to use an enlarged cold plate to achieve such results.

But worth it for thrills imo.

Only time you hear a d5 is if it's under stress
Best way to avoid stress is limit the use of 90 degree fittings.
Use 45 degree if you need to use a rotary otherwise if bending pipe do nice graceful bends not sharp turns.

I personally just use straight barb fittings and soft hosing.
How many is too many for a d5? I went from 2 to 6 90 degree rotary fittings when I got my distroplate and thought the pump noise was from a lack of vibration dampener that I had previously with EK-Quantum Kinetic TBE D5 PWM that was always quiet except at top speed. I tend to keep my pump speed now between 50% to 60% to minimize the noise.

I suppose if you consider the input/outputs to my distroplate then the count is really 6 (fittings) + 8 (connections) (14 total 90 degree angles)

Now I guess it makes a lot more sense when I think about it. Going from 2 90's to 14 90's is quite a big jump in flow stress.

I wonder why distroplates don't incorporate angles at the ports? (at least none that I have ever seen)

If I rerun my tubes I might be able to eliminate up to 6 90's but I did this this way specifically to minimize the number of tubes I needed to run horizontally since I'm doing soft tubing.
Anyway I don't mean to highjack this thread so I'll end it here.

Nice build
Thread is about pumps and we're just adding what causes pump noise
The disro plate should of came with plastic washers to add between plate and case

Indeed those places you show are easy to change and improve flow and reduce pump noise a bit
The distro plate 90's will be the most fun couple 45's on one loop and straight barbs on the other might not be to bad
Or just leave one as is and straight barbs on one even you said 2 90's wasn't bad is was only when you added 4 more is when noise started.

There is a water cooling thread around here somewhere
A few but I think this one is good one to continue on if you wish to

I've had this argument with a heathen before, I was saying "the cooler the better due to voltage leakage" they were saying as long as it wasn't throttling it didn't matter. Lol. Lmao even.

Other friends have said delidding is "extreme", uhhh, no sweaty, liquid nitrogen xoc is extreme. Delidding is something I've literally done by hand on an 8700k once, in a general tools vice, using a dishtowel hahahahaha

You know what really grinds my gears tho? Noone makes waterblocks for twin dimm ram kits, only quad dimm, and who tf overclocks hard with 4 dimms?

Daddy wants to push 1.8 V+ as his 24/7 OC but is limited by thermals on the B Die. So I'm forced to be satisfied with 1.6/1.65 V with active airflow.

Other friends have said delidding is "extreme", uhhh, no sweaty, liquid nitrogen xoc is extreme. Delidding is something I've literally done by hand on an 8700k once, in a general tools vice, using a dishtowel hahahahaha

You know what really grinds my gears tho? Noone makes waterblocks for twin dimm ram kits, only quad dimm, and who tf overclocks hard with 4 dimms?

Daddy wants to push 1.8 V+ as his 24/7 OC but is limited by thermals on the B Die. So I'm forced to be satisfied with 1.6/1.65 V with active airflow.

1.8v on b-die isn't that big of a deal. It's probably running warm because you left the heat sinks on which are attached by shit ass pads probably rated less than 3mk/h......

But it really depends if you want to call pulling heat sinks off as crazy as delidding.

But delidding is my thing. I've been an AMD soldered delidder for many years.

In fact, a certain someone, pretty darn popular, likes the type of razors I used in conjunction with a tutorial from some decade ago. I won't say any names though, but I'm sure you know about some other delidders outhere on YouTube.



But for sure delidding is great. 8700k 15 to 20c drop in core temps right off the bat.

Don't even get me started on how many hours wasted on lapping before DING!!! Let's just remove the fuckin plate. Then we can use a larger one. Or a smaller one. Or just stick the damn block on the die and be done with it.

But everyone has a different outlook. I'm really good with hardware modification cause I can work with my hands. A lot of people are not good with their hands but have other fantastic talents like hip shot to the head with the awp in css/go. Lol

Nice build
Thread is about pumps and we're just adding what causes pump noise
The disro plate should of came with plastic washers to add between plate and case

Indeed those places you show are easy to change and improve flow and reduce pump noise a bit
The distro plate 90's will be the most fun couple 45's on one loop and straight barbs on the other might not be to bad
Or just leave one as is and straight barbs on one even you said 2 90's wasn't bad is was only when you added 4 more is when noise started.

There is a water cooling thread around here somewhere
A few but I think this one is good one to continue on if you wish to
Distroplate did not come with washers and if it did it would have been a real PITA to install over the PITA it already was.

So I was doing some brainstorming and here is what I came up with.

Here is what I currently have.
Notes:
- water pumps up to the CPU, falls down to the GPU, then up to the rad (up, down, up)
- 4 x 90's to get the water to scale up the right side of the distroplate to the rad
- the configuration of the 90's creates a bit of a water trap when draining
- in this config I have a cool side and warm side temp sensors
- the drain on the block side of the loop works well

Proposed re-configuration 1
Notes:
- water pumps up to the top of the distroplate, falls down to the CPU, GPU, then up again to the rad straight run
- in this config I still have a cool side and warm side temp sensors
- the long tube run is a bit annoying and I might relocate drain to the distroplate with a short rotary fitting
- the drain is still on the block side of the loop
- 2 x 90's are still retained.
- I move the rad return down to the lower port which will make getting the rad/fans out a bit easier when needed.

Proposed re-configuration 2
Notes:
- water bridges at the bottom distroplate. pumps up to GPU, then CPU, then RAD (up, up, up)
- in this configuration I eliminate all the 90's fittings in the operational part of the loop
- I'll loose 1 temp sensor. (currently have 2, warm side, cool side)
- the drain is no longer on the block side of the loop which may make things difficult
- the bottom bridge needs to be a soft-tube coil I think because a simple U bridge will kink at that radius.
(how to maintain the shape of the coil? maybe zip ties)
(will the coil act like a water trap, possibly)

Nah I used thermal grizzly pads when repadding. The heat is also an effect of very tight timings.

Bad photo, side panels are off as I cleaned recently, ram fans are attached to side panel hence the disconnected headers.

Also cable management needs doing... but who has time for that when you can make the pc go faster instead?

It's UGLY AF right now, no GF since 4 months so doesn't need to look pretty - I'll eventually make a custom distro for the front panel so the res/pump combo isn't just stuck out the front panel, which I removed.
