there is a way to actually do it. it involves using a usb boot drive and replacing the welcoming login screen button that normally links to ease of access to CMD, allowing for you to reset your account password. You could always reinstall the OS. But I have done this fix successfully before. [Solved] Reset Windows 10 Password with Command Prompt (4winkey.com)

Sadly, you didn't tell us anything about this laptop - or even which version of Windows.

You say you cannot get past the password on boot. I am assuming the Microsoft account password. Is that correct? Do you get an error? If so, what exactly does it say?

What do you mean the "intended solution" is "wrong"? How is it not right? Or do you mean the "suggested solution" did not resolve the problem? And if this, how and where did it fail?

If me, I would pull the drive, temporarily attach it to another computer, then attempt to analyze the drive and if problems noted, attempt to repair it. If no problems noted, then format it, return it to the laptop, and re-install Windows - or Linux.

Sounds more like a Bios password. Someone probably set one and now OP can't get into the BIOS let alone windows. Most BIOS locked laptops the manufacturer has master passwords that can be used but you will need to provide them all the info and a receipt

It's Win 10. I figured it out. The login screen actually gives you 2 options to login. Either your pin or your MS password under sign in options. I logged onto this laptop hundreds of times in the past and just entered my pin. For whatever reason MS messed with it, probably in an update, and I could no longer simply enter my pin and login. I went to the sign in options on the opening screen and chose the pin option and now I have no problems logging in. Maybe this will help someone else if they run into this problem.

Not really bricked. Worst case scenario is you would have lost some data due to a windows install but the laptop would still be working just fine after that. Bricking is when it wont post at all or nothing comes on screen. Glad you got it sorted though
