Looks like a cheaper version of Embody. Herman Miller makes great chairs, but if anyone wants an alternative, Steelcase is another great brand.
...same thing I thought until I bought one. I absolutely do not like it.

Unfortunately chairs, like mice, is extremely personal. One person may be raving about it and the other one will hate it from the bottom of their soul.

True statement as they wouldn't be in business if that wasn't true. And I hate mine from the bottom of my soul.

Mussels - that is the problem, the seat is hard AF. It's a solid chair for the first 45-60 mins, after that...geezus.

Like The Lost Swede said, mesh or bust!

My secret labs was similar - the problem is that soft cushioning wears out over time, so theres a dilemma. A chair thats comfortable on day one but wears out, or a chair that is too hard at first, and gets better?

I found i was sitting too far forward in my titan and had to move the armrests back, sliding the chair in closer and then i stopped finding it too firm. I was used to badly fitting chairs with fixed arms hitting the desk and got used to sitting that way.

If your ass aint wedged in to the part the butt rest and back rest meet, the chairs too big (hence gamer chairs all having shitty lumbar cushions so kids still fit)

And who wants to sit for months (maybe years) in a chair that's uncomfortable hoping that it might get better "someday"? No one.

And trying chairs is a bit like trying shoes. Don't do it early in the day when you are feeling fresh. Do it when you are tired. Then you'll figure out pretty quickly what is truly comfortable and what isn't.

When you shop for shoes, go at the end of the day when your feet are tired from walking around (they also swell up a half size or so from the morning). Apply the same principle when you shop for a chair.

Also, there's a correct way of sitting in a properly designed task chair. No slouching.

And take the time to adjust the settings for you. Ideally, your task chair should be YOURS exclusively and not subject to someone else diddling with the configuration. I would never think of changing the settings on someone else's personal task chair.

If you read the review from the video you linked: https://www.btod.com/blog/steelcasae-leap-vs-gesture-chair/

"One of the unique things about both the Leap and Gesture, was their ability to score well with seat comfort, while using a thin seat pad."

Steelcase uses a hybrid cushion mesh for their seat but what makes their seat special is that the seat pan itself is flexible. If you try other high end mesh or padded seats the padding or mesh will flex but the seat pan remains rigid. The Steelcase seats themselves flex to conform to your bod and not just the padding. One of the biggest complaints for the Aeron is it's hard seat pan and than complaint extends to many other high end products as well. Going to a chair with a thick cushion would be a mistake as those chair always loose their comfort value after a few years as the cushion ages.

Any customization options you could get on a new chair you can get from a B-Stock or 2nd hand model. It's 100% not worth is spending 3 - 4 times the money when you can get an open box product with the same customization.

Let me rephrase. :) It's not the thickness of the seat pad, the problem is a cutout in the seat pad of the "Gesture" which can lead to pain in the tailbone region, like he explained in the linked video.

In their Best Office Chair Tier List (30 Ranked For Comfort) video review the "Steelcase Gesture" ends up only in the A tier row, so it's overall not a bad chair.
But the seating comfort is just the most important aspect of a chair, it's the part you have the most time contact with. The "Steelcase Amia" has the best seat pad out of all 30 chairs tested, which is why it would be my #1 pick. The "Herman Miller Embody" looks also like a solid choice, but it's not available in leather, so it's out of the window for me.

About customization, I don't know where you're shopping. But over here 2nd hand is "buy as seen". There is no customization possible like when you buy new. And just to be clear, with customization I mean frame color, fabric type/color options & wheel types. To make it fit into the rest of your furniture, you know. ;)

If you go and peruse seat reviewer's tier lists, they will all be different.

Suffice it to say the Amia is essentially a Gesture without a flexible seatpan and back. Instead they use a livemesh back and extra padding on the seat. It really takes what's special about the leap and gesture and replaces it with something 3-4 other vendors already have.

In regards to customization, that's what I figured you meant. In the US at least, every customization permutation can be purchased online from a redistributor / open box for a fraction of the price. The only exception would be if a product is brand new.

They should take days to a week to settle in, your months to years is fiction - no ones getting you sit on a plank of wood and smooth an ass curve into it by friction

The worse thing about these chairs is that you cant go to a store and sit in one. I would glady pay $1k for a good chair. I need to upgrade my aging 10 year old DXracer office chair that is huge and if it only had a seat pan movement and narrower handrest position --- would be perfectt.

Can we order one and return it when its not good enough?

Not on the same level as Herman Miller. Keep that

Yes, Herman Miller has a 30 day money back guarantee and a 12 year warranty.

Looks like a solid update of the Embody. At that price though I can't help but think that the Steelcase Leap would be a better option for most people however.
Not on the same level. Keep that Steelcase

Do yourself a favor and get a factory 2nd Steelcase Gesture for $300 - $400. Best high end office chair (or gaming chair) IMO at an absolute bargain of a price.
Wrong and not on the same level as Herman Miller. Keep that Steelcase

New Account, First post, if you work for Herman Miller, you should probably disclose you are a manufacturer rep.

Oh, and plan on. Better built, same length warranty, and my Leap was cheaper than the Embody. Why would I pay more?

Man I caved, I had to buy this super thick seat cushion. It looks ridiculous AF, but it works.
