Did I just screw up with the 7900XTX - multi monitor supported?!

I think it has to do with removing conflicting video drivers/software when switching from nvidia to amd or vice versa. It has only been out a few days, amd might take a little while to get the drivers right..
Nv aint no better and the green drivers cause issues when a non nv gpu is plugged in.

Sadly, it should be known to anyone that's savvy enough with tech and has used Windows (especially Win 10 and 11) long enough that the past two iterations of Windows everyone has seen some sort of f-up from MS and the crappy updates they've pushed out.

I've experienced all sorts of issues with Windows 10 updates that ranged from having to re-install drivers to get things working again or having to do complete re-install of the OS because something broke and even doing a system restore doesn't fix it.

That is why I have Windows Update Disabled and I am really considering ripping it out of the OS completely and using Chris Titus Tech's Power Shell Commands to install updates (the right way) and Vette every update using askwoody.com (Windows for Dummy's Author)

That's never been neccessary, the worst you get is the amd software popping up at boot with an error that it cant find an AMD GPU

AMD drivers dont install for nvidia cards, they dont do this
Oh right, I guess Microsoft just functions flawlessly everywhere it's installed.

I already tried this step and posted results above. Spent plenty of time testing with this last night, the results were the same every time;

HDMI only, works fine. correct resolution and refresh rate.
Plug in 2nd monitor via DP - both work fine, correct resolution and refresh rate. Does not matter which monitor I use 2nd.
Plug in 3rd monitor via DP - HDMI monitor disabled. Does not show in device manager, not via show hidden, not via windows detect displays--nothing. It's like the HDMI port just fucks off and goes home.

The USB-C to DP cable arrived this AM and I swapped to that, it all works.

The HDMI cable is a known good I took from my home theater system, displaying a 75" 4k smart tv with ARC, running the latest HDMI standard.

This card just does not handle HDMI as a third monitor it seems.
Very weird, I did not see it listed anywhere that the HDMI cannot be used as a third monitor when both DP's are in. The only thing I can come up with is either One DP is linked to the HDMI (Meaning they are the same port). At least the Type C works for the third. Very weird, maybe a firmware issue.

I think your HDMI cable could be to old standard vise - perhaps try later with a new standard cable

Have you tried using an adapter on the USB-C port? Either DP or HDMI will do and testing both would be ideal. I have not encountered a modern mainstream to high end AMD card that can't drive 3 displays. Also I like the idea of trying another OS. Slap Linux with something bleeding edge on a USB stick and boot off of it and see what happens.

I suggest that USB-C port because it might not have the same limitations as the HDMI port. A great example is my Macbook Pro. I can drive two 5k displays from it, but only if I use one port from each side of the laptop and it has something to do with the lanes for displays that are connected to each one. You might find that the HDMI port is shared with one of the DP receptacles, but the USB-C port isn't. I'm not going to do the research for you to find out how it's all wired up, but experimenting with that 4th port might get you the results you're looking for.

As I said in another post above, this is the latest standard HDMI cable, taken as a known good from my home theater setup running a 75" 4k display with ARC. Its less than 6 months old.

Using USB-C to HDMI or DP works fine, just the HDMI port itself does not work with 3 monitors.

C'mon why would it have to be 2.1? What about backward compatibility? From what I gather OP needs ordinary 1080p monitor connected via HDMI, not some exotic new thing; some graphics experience, AMD.
@jeconti , I'd suggest talking to AMD customer support also, it's an outrage paying $1K for that thing and not being able to connect standard 3 monitors to it.

It has so many negatives
What are they? It seems as good as the next card from what I can see (just maybe slightly worse efficiency, but then, it's cheaper).

This sounds like a dead port, he may need to RMA. There is no reason it should not be outputting a picture to a basic oldish monitor on ANY cable.

Techpowerup always has a list of cons on any card. My point is there isn't an unusually high issue set vs anything else. Although...

Also, funny story actually. This same behavior's happens on both of my 7900xtx's, so it definitely just seems like a drive issue.
oof on that front. A lot of people use hdmi. Does it work with JUST the hdmi monitor? Maybe it's the mix of both that messes up.

Yes, just single HDMI works as well as HDMI plus 1 DP/USB-C. HDMI only gets disabled when a third monitor is connected.

Sounds like some kind of firmware bug then, and one with fairly easy work arounds. It's a bug, but I wouldn't call it a dealbreaker for most.

It also could be some kind of bandwidth limit if all displays are in a high bandwidth mode, like DisplayPort 1.4+ and HDMI 2.1. But I think the former is more likely.

Does it always turn off with the DP port that's next to it? Have you checked the documentation for your card for which ports can be driven at the same time? I feel like a little bit of research could have answered this. I'm just not willing to do it for you.

Tried to find anything about it, manufacturer website, the box it came in, nothing mentions a limitation on connected displays or how they should function.

This is a bit odd, as normally the third DP is the one that disables
For whatever reason they've prioritised the USB-C port which is 100% going to be the least used of them all

I've seen this behavior before with other outputs on a GPU. I think this has to do more with a particular output being designated the default outside of whatever is actually connected. I wouldn't have expected that on a USB-C output on a GPU, but it's not entirely surprising. The solution is simple, use that port for your primary display. That's what I did when I had that problem.

New user here.
I have similar issue as OP, i have the 7900xtx AMD reference card.

Except its displayport that doesn't work for me.
Its the middle of the DP between USB C and hdmi.

right now my set uyp is DP1/USBC/DPS(not working/HDMI

I have to get a USB-c to hdmi to get 3 monitor, but and 3 monitor work like that but when i unplug DP1 and plug to DP2 it won't work, the monitor would get no signal.

Feel like at this point i will leave it. Anyone have any solution as well ?

I’d suggest anyone having this problem contact AMD so they can fix it in a driver update?

Too many don't use the function and I've seen them fix issues so it's not like the reports are going unseen or unanswered.

I had an issue in 2004, then in 2016, in 2016 it took 6 months but it did get fixed after each driver I tested and reported the same issue. It was an annoyance but didn't affect the cards performance, just was affecting Windows boot speed.

Im using the last known working driver for An R7 250X on windows 11 and there aint any problems
