I'm back again, and I want a new system.

It's been awhile guys. I've been concentrating on another money pit (car), but I'm happy with where that money pit is at right now. Now it's time to focus on a two year neglected money pit. So I think I'm going to be building a new PC by the end of the year or so, but since I haven't been keeping up on the latest stuff for awhile, I need some guidance. Here's what I'm thinking

-C2D e6750; is this a good OCer?
-2x2gb PC6400 RAM of some sort. I was looking at some Muskin in particular. I remember them being really good.
-Hopefully 2x8800GTX's. Depends on how many hours I'll be working after school.
-Probably be transferring my RAID 0 Raptors over to the new system, and running two or three 250gb drives in RAID 0 or 5 for storage.
-I was looking at the PCP&C 750w PSU with the 60a single 12v rail.

Now the biggest thing I'm not sure of is which motherboard to go with. I'm used to the 939 era where DFI was the best thing ever for mobos. Obviously I want a good overclocking board, with SLI capabilities (are all SLI boards running 16x for both cards now?), and being able to run two arrays of RAID 0, or a RAID 0 array and RAID 5 array at the same time. Preferably $200 or less, but $230 or so is acceptable if really necessary.

If u want to Overclock, go AMD, they're eaiser IMO

Well, for Intel AND SLI, the only current choice is a 650i or 680i mobo. 650u is 8+8 SLI, 680i is 16+16 SLI. eVGA makes a good 680i board, go for the A1 revision.

You may also want to wait a short while, as nVidia is about to release their newest chipset in the coming weeks.

If u want to Overclock, go AMD, they're eaiser IMO

But provide less performance.

Well the little research I've had the chance to do, it looks like AMD is coming out with a 65nm quad core pretty soon that's supposedly going to surpass Intel? Also a friend of mine told me that ATI was going to be releasing an x2950 series.

AMD may be easier to overclock, but isn't it still quite a bit slower than the C2D's? I remember that the AM2's didn't stand too much of a chance against the C2D's last I was on here.

What's the major difference between the 650i and the 680i?

Yeah the AMDs are slower, clock for clock, plus they generally don't OC as high anyway. I just had an X2 6000+. OCed to 3.4GHz, it was matched or beaten by Core 2 running 2.8 to 3.0GHz in most cases.

I'm not so confident the upcoming AMD chips will fair much better.

Why? Yours is still good, and much better than your old setup. Be happy with your computer. Save a few quid, and slap a dual core Opty in there.

Yeah, it breaks my heart to have to go to Intel/Nvidia over AMD/ATI.

Exactly, as long as it does what you need, you're fine. AMDs aren't poor performers (like P4. lol), they're just slower clock for clock than the Core 2s.

Being able to save until January/February will also make SLI'd GTX's a much better possibility.

Well after doing some research, looks like it's going to be 2x 9800GTX's, a 780i chipset based motherboard, and a Q9450. Ohhh man this is gonna be sweet. I need to start saving though, that's for sure.

Pretty much. I've got college coming up next year so I'm not really going to have any spending money come that time.
