I have issues updating my bios on my new Asus Prime X670-P WiFi board I have tried internal storage and now 2 different USB thumb drives on SP Power 16GB USB 3.0 and the other Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GB USB 3.0.

It doesn't matter for normal flashing via EZ flash in the bios when EZ shows Processing the computer reboots into a black screen and nothing happens and I need to power off the whole computer and take out the cmos battery for 30secs and I can boot up again.

I have even allowed bios flashback nothing works, then I tried using bios flashback feature on my motherboard when the usb thumb drive is in the usb port 7 listed in the manual and having the bios file ASUS.CAP or PX670PW.CAP my motherboard holding in the bios flashback button for 3secs and the green led flashes about 3-5times and then I get a solid green.

No matter which of the usb thumb drive I use and no matter if the file is named ASUS.CAP or PX670PW.CAP tried the renamer file from Asus and manually rename the bios flashback doesn't flash.

I tried reached out to Asus and got in touch with the nordic department as in the past they don't know anything and should be avoided by all costs because I wrote what I did and they told me to do what I already did :banghead:

I know my SP Power worked with my old Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero and before this no issues, then the guy I won't say his name tells me to do to the asus support download page download their AI Suite 3 for my motherboard and use their EZ Flash 3.0 which is not included in the version for my board.

Link: https://www.asus.com/uk/motherboard...lpdesk_download/?model2Name=PRIME-X670-P-WIFI

But when I check what's included even downloading AI Suite 3 the EZ Flash 3.0 is not included for my motherboard:

I then replied to the email and asked if he could link or send me the EZ Flash version 3.0 and he tells me to contract the retailer (Komplett.dk) instead of helping me trying to flash the bios through Windows 11 what's going on here?

Because if I can avoid it I would like not to ship my motherboard back and buy a new one but my motherboard runs fine with my AMD Ryzen 7 7700 and 6000MHz memory with AMD EXPO memory but I would like to update the bios from 0809 to 0823 to get the newest AGESA ComboAM5PI 1.0.0.3 patch A + D if possible.

Is there by any change someone who have the EZ Flash version 3.0 that can send it to me or link it so I can download and try it?

If the flash from Windows don't work is there another board that can be recommended in the price range of about £238 / 290USD it doesn't have to be X670 but when I found this board on sale for about £214 / 261USD I was like why not it got everything I need, bios flashback, 2xM.2. NVME, 6xSATA 6GBs/s ports and 1xUSB-C internal ports.

Make sure the USB drive is formatted to FAT32. The file is in the root (no folder). In the right USB port. Once you press the flash back button it will take 5-6 minutes of a blinking light. At that point the computer will shut off and restart usually.

The usb drive is formatted as FAT32 and there is a hidden folder system volume that cannot be deleted even with diskpart.

problem is after the 3-5 flashes the light is solid green and yesterday I waited 15mins and still a solid green light which indicates a read error and I was still on bios 0809.

I thought EZ Flash 3 was built into the MB BIOS...
[Motherboard] ASUS EZ Flash 3 - Introduction

EZ is also part of some AI suites but I cannot find it and the built in one don’t work it reboots at processing.

Oh, OK.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS to default, disconnecting all devices, except keyboard & mouse... then trying the BIOS update?

Yes and it’s all the same I only have my Logitech G305 wireless, Razor black widow keyboard and Steelseries Arctic wireless for usb.

Resting still don’t help even pulling the bios battery and loading defaults all the same.

So I am thinking about dropping this boards and ship it back I have 60 days return.

I am not sure if I should order the same motherboard again or another brand and model :(

If it were me... I would return it as defective.
And, search for another board.

The only other thing you could try is flashing the 0809 BIOS and see if it tells you, it is already installed, at least you would know that it is working up to that point.

I can’t even flash the same bios version in ez flash it shows processing and reboot, with usb flashback it’s stock with a solid green light which is read error.

Shouldn't be a solid green light. Either your file is named wrong. Wrong file altogether or the MB is screwed. I've done the first two a number of times.

I have downloaded PRIME-X670-P-WIFI-ASUS-0809.zip and PRIME-X670-P-WIFI-ASUS-0823.zip when I extract them I get PRIME-X670-P-WIFI-ASUS-0809.CAP and PRIME-X670-P-WIFI-ASUS-0823.CAP.

If I use the BIOSRenamer.exe it changes any of the 2 bioses to PX670PW.CAP and according to the manual this is correct or ASUS.CAP but I cannot get any of the 2 files to work.

I am wondering if I should try the bios for the Asus Prime X670-P non-WiFi to see if this works because the 2 boards are identitcal the wifi model just have a m.2. wifi module that's are the 2 differences.

I never understood the renamer, it's still listed as a cap file. So anything in front of ".cap" doesn't matter. In short, you shouldn't have to rename the name, but perhaps the file extension. Which in the past AMI bios firmware is a ".rom". Although I don't know if you can change the file extension to .rom with the renaming tool or not because I've never had to rename a bios file to flash an Asus motherboard. That all being said, the last board I flashed just yesterday was a B450-I strix board. Through EZ flash in bios without renaming the file or changing the file extension to .rom. it simply just worked.

ASUS.CAP is the only thing that ever worked for me. Also WIFI and none-WIFI are different checksums. I tried to flash a ASUS none-WIFI...yeah it didn't work and just couldn't figure it out. I had the wrong BIOS.

Sounds like it's time to contact the store that sold you the board.

The biosrenamer is for renaming the bios to something specific that the bios flashback to read for the function the universal name is ASUS.CAP and then each board have a specific name, for mine it's PX670PW.CAP.

Yeah the board didn't like it but it was worth a try anyway.

I cannot even downgrade or flash back to bios version 0613 the board is still behaving the same way bios flashback solid green light and the EZ Flash is starting the processing than reboots with a back screen :banghead:

@puma99dk| are you flashing from the BIOS, windows software or directly from the USB?
I cannot find the EZ Flash for Windows and Asus won't prove it, so I been trying USB and internal drives M.2. and SATA too but nothing works.

Sounds like it's time to contact the store that sold you the board.
I contacted them while I was at work, I do have 60days return no issue and that would be faster than RMA which is at least 3-4weeks for them.

The guy on the phone told me I could use my return and then just add a note that the board works but cannot be flashed with a older or newer bios that wouldn't be an issue.

But I want another board before I do anything because the board works fine no issue other than it's like bios is in read only mode.

Didn't really answer the question. Are you A) Using flashing from within windows B) Are you flashing from the flashback button or C) Are you flashing from within the BIOS?

Flashback button will always work even without a CPU install. Just need power.

A: I cannot flash in Windows since Asus' have not released a version of EZ Flash version 3 on the support site for my motherboard.

B: Using the flashback button makes the green led flash about 3 times and I get a solid green colour which I can read online is a reading error.

I tried with 2 diffent USB thumb drives one with the size of 16GB the other has 32GB, formatted in FAT32 and tried with ASUS.CAP and PX670PW.CAP which is written in the printed manual and the BIOSRenamer still doesn't work.

C: Flashing within the bios in EZ Flash doesn't work no matter if I use version 0613, 0809 or 0823 when I get to the "Do you really want to update BIOS?" screen and click yes I see Procesing... and it reboots and is stock on a black screen and I waited for 15mins nothing happeneds and the motherboard won't post before I take out the cmos battery for at least 30 seconds.

I have tried another cmos battery didn't help.

*EDIT* A new day, another try but it still fails.

Okay, I will order a new motherboard and return this board because even following through this video didn't help:

Mike says that if the drive has been used for other things, boot media and such so the bios flashback can fail, so I followed the video along and did everything that he talks about, I tried even ASUS.CAP and PX670PW.CAP that the BIOSRenamer.exe do still won't work even this time it the green led for bios flashback blinked 5 times before going solid green :(

I guess Asus left this board in like read only mode or something since it refuses to flash with the 24 and 8pin power connected and my drives not sure what more to really do this has made me sleepless.

Had the same problem. Disabled EXPO. Formated the drive. Used the USB drive over the bios button. It finally worked.

Thank you, I just tried this going to the bios just disable AMD EXPO didn't work, then I did load optimal settings and no still not working then I did clear cmos still not working I guess the bios chip is lock or something.

I am waiting on my replacement board I order and I will test if I can update the bios on that board but if that's 2 for 2 then I will find another board even this got everything I need just wish it had led diagnostics or a post code not like I can add this.

The green led when my machine is turned off flashes 5 times then I get the solid green color wish Asus would have made the bios chip swapable like back in the day because that would make myself so much easier that Asus could just send me a new bios chip with the newest bios problem resolved.

Because I care about the AGESIA updates AMD brings to the table and they are important even for the older Ryzen cpu's. I mainly upgraded so I can have a good cpu and enjoyed onboard when I am not gaming because to be frank if I know I should had these issues I could just had ordered a tiny computer with the mobile chip I wanted but I am afraid I would get tired of not being able to upgrade anything expect m.2. and sata storage and ram.

BIOS chips are soldered to the MB. Many years ago it was a socketed chip

I know and I miss that "feature" because it was so handy back then when either a flash, chip or something went wrong you just ordered a new bios chip and problem solved not like todays boards if there is an error you need to return your board or send it in for rma.

It's easier and faster to send out a bios chip maybe it will return on 1000 dollars + boards only as a new feature, but seriously I hope as much as bios flashback is good the socketed bios chips was even as nice or better.

Wait longer. It feels like you didn't wait long enough while the screen was black.

There is no point in waiting longer when the solid green light means read error and the reboot happening right at processing I once waited for 15mins just with a black screen so I waited enough.

My replacement should arrive Tuesday or something next week and yes I ordred the second board if this still have the same issue well than maybe Asus should look into a batch or something because that would mean 2 out of 2 boards from the same retailer have the same issue.

Try even more flash drives. It is really picky sometimes.

Also try MyASUS app and try updating via that tool. It should download and exec it on reboot.

MyAsus is disabled in the bios same with their ArmorCreate not the biggest fan og programs that can install their self on a machine this is not china.
