Klemc if you were here I would buy you a drink, you are too cool for school.:toast:
Well thanks, i just stopped smoking cigarillos 2023-5-09 (birthday), but a good drink is appreciated, well, i deactivated a lot of services (not that much as my games listed, but) that work on Win 10 but 11 fails with same OFF services list :

Hmm starting again to go back to WiN7 :slap::nutkick:

My way of *Feature updating [NOTE this works for either UEFI/MBR

- DOWNLOAD the WiN11 from UUPDUMP. NET
- use Rufus 3.18 to allow bypass feature
- use a 8GB+ USB Stick
- Create USB
- Extract the Files from the USB you created
- with IMGBURN drag the files from the folder you put them in. Under "Make Disc Bootable" look for the File etfsboot and create
- Extract the ISO and Double Click the setup file

Usually stripped down versions of Windows end up breaking random things that you won't notice until a program tries to use such feature. I honestly don't think it's worth using them. At most you can use ShutUp10 to kill most useless stuff that's safe-ish to remove and with the option to roll it back.

About games, which are known to take advantages of Windows 11 ?..
... i assume not games older than 2020>2017 !.. or is there something to know about games to be sure it will.

//

This shortcuts work well on 10, but 11 only popups the right panel and i manually have to chose the mnoitor :

C:\Windows\System32\DisplaySwitch.exe /internal
C:\Windows\System32\DisplaySwitch.exe /external

The last answer about 1-2-3-4 cmd doesn't work

I'm playing a DX9 game first released in 06' on win 11, no problems here, smooth as.
OKay, i can use Win 11 mostly, i will have to install OpenShell btw, bc... (oh, StartAllBack looks OKay) edit: yeah, OShell help a lot.

I will have to find this service that makes the screen flicker when disabled, making explorer unusable... i found EventLog is breaking explorer when disabled but not the one that makes screen flicker.

Link to my original post as a reminder :

This has been said elsewhere, but I'll restate here as a reminder. The performance differences between Windows 10 and Windows 11 are so small as to be insignificant. It really does depend on the game, the hardware being used and the drivers installed. So if you're looking for a reason to upgrade, gaming performance will not be that reason. However, microsoft has done a good job increasing the quality of compatibility modes and as such, many older games programs that refuse to run(or run poorly) on Windows 10 run fine on Windows 11.

7800X3D, B650E-E, monitor OLED 240hz 1440p, last drivers (Asus are up-to-date).

If Win11 (2023-2-14 KB actually) has some trick for X3D done compared to Win10 that'd be enough for me.
Like scheduler thingies...

At least it's "never" worse, now ?!

OpenShell only is enough right now for me to "use" the OS !

Those are great specs! You're not going to feel ANY difference between 10 and 11. However, the compatibility modes and UI refinements of 11 are what won me over. Of course, I'm a bit of an odd duck. I did and still do like Windows ME, it is my go-to 9X kernel OS. I also have no issues diving into the inner workings of Windows and forcibly ripping rubbish out that I don't want present on my system. My experience with 11 is better than most people. After a fresh install, my version of 11 resembles something similar to what you get with Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC.

OpenShell only is enough right now for me to "use" the OS !
I use this and completely disable the Windows builtin Start menu(but still present just in case I need it).

7800X3D does not need or use scheduler tricks, as it has only one CCD.

Yep. I just have a .reg file on a USB stick that I just double click for new builds. Was going to post, but random .reg files on the internet shouldn’t be encouraged. :)
Thats where you post it as plain text that users can see its content, and need to manually save it as a .reg file to prevent beginners using it without thought first

Same, borderlands presequel atm.
Works great in native DX9, using DXVK i can double the FPS at the cost of some in-game features not working correctly (In game FPS limiter, for example)

New windows update out now has a shit-ton of fixes and changes, including the performance fix for 1000Hz mice - essentially, multiple background applications could listen to the raw mouse input, multiplying the CPU usage. They blocked that.
Think of things like Razer, logitech, iCue, steam and discord overlays - anything that wanted mouse inputs, was multiplying the CPU usage at *any* polling rate.
This could why gamers have FPS issues, but benchmarks are fine - the mouse was the problem.

Microsoft quietly released Windows 11 22H2 Configuration Update that boosts performance - Neowin
Microsoft details Windows 11 performance gains it delivered, reiterating it as most reliable - Neowin

Yeah it does this with WU. I dunno why it does it so much with AMD drivers.

You can disable it using group policies if you're interested on that.
By removing the windows update drivers locally, the system downloaded ones from online to have *something* for the device - and that's when they switch over.

The common problem people run into is that they have two sets of drivers and control panels installed, and only one driver loads - leading to a control panel that doesnt work.
You just reinstall the latest driver without the factory reset option or using DDU, and it'll be fine.

As for the dramatic version of events that people seem to follow, Google can lead you down some really opinionated pieces on why it's all AMD's fault, always AMD, not mine, definitely not mine for using DDU and a factory reset and various other tools at once on a benchmark system i dont do clean installs on and breaking it.

Oh heavens no, a program deleted drivers from my PC, and the PC assumed they were still present. ALL HAIL DDU, WHO DEFINITELY DID NOT CAUSE THIS.
1685608256774.png

(There was then a piece praising intel's Arc GPU's, which still didn't boot on his PC - because it wasnt the AMD driver that broke it, he'd deleted other drivers the PC needed to function)

Toms hardware have an article instead of a personal opinion piece, with accurate information
Radeon Driver Bug Corrupts Windows, AMD Shares Fix | Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com)

If you use DDU and erase your windows default drivers, shit breaks when the user and windows update are both trying to install drivers.

AMD said it's possible the same thing happens with their "Factory reset" option in the drivers, but DDU seems to be involved an awful lot.
1685608551572.png

If DDU erased any built in ones, and you erase the AMD ones - of course it tries to download one. Either let it finish, or manually update the driver completely offline.

The few times there is a performance difference, we tend to get answers like the mouse bug above... which weren't even 11s fault, but background software doing the wrong thing

That about sums it up. During Win11's first 8 months there were some minor problems that caused difference for a few specific games, but have since been resolved.

I get the feeling that every time a new OS comes along, they try and open things up for better performance - raw data input for all mice and joysticks to multiple applications? Hell yeah!
Then you get 10 apps requesting raw data (that dont need it) on a 1000Hz mouse that didn't exist when the code was written, and people spend months scratching their heads on it

There was an issue where an Xbox controller would cause FPS drops and i recall that a program was involved, one of those ones that let you map buttons (so you can use a sony or nintendo controller as an Xbox one, etc)

Now i gotta wonder: was this the same bug?
They released a firmware fix that didnt explain how it fixed the issue, but was it just by lowering the polling rate
Adding in another source of sensor data, that was being read by multiple applications/overlays?
